Hey Nick, Beautiful engine and nice research on its history! I volunteer as a trainman for the Wilmington and Western which is supported by the Red Clay Valley that had 113 back when you mentioned. Sounds like she’s found a good home. I will have to visit her one of these days. Now I’m gonna have to look for one of these too! Thanks!
That is one nice locomotive. The fact that it is a Pennsy design is inconsequential. The detail is quite nice. The crew chatter is both bad and good. The engineer yelling instructions to the fireman would get a lump of coal upside his noggin'. The switch-list discussion, though, is actually quite good. It seems to run and pull quite nicely and the sound is just perfect. I'm going to have to take a few detours the next time that I head to New Jersey and check out some of the historic sites. An excellent video, as always.
Nick, I have to say, your videos always seem to amaze me. You did a fantastic job on this. Your #113 is a great looking engine. The detailing is actually done really well for a Rail King model. Great information and history on it as well. Great job Nick! Tom
That's a great find on your part Nick! A bit pricey? Ah, I'm not surprised, that's "supply and demand" in action. CNJ steam seems to be one of those items that you just don'r see anywhere and when they do pop up they go quick! I'd wanted a CNJ Camelback for years and never saw one anywhere until I found one at an Oaks Greenberg show in 2018. Paid more than I wanted to but as I said, you just don't see 'em. Then a year later I found an Ontario & Western Camel at Henning's and paid $100 less than I did on the CNJ model! What are you gonna do? Less demand for "Old & Weary" Camels I suppose. And that 113 model you've gotten is a beautiful model, even if it's a bit slimmer than the original. "Hefty" doesn't begin to describe 113! By the way everyone, that CNJ switcher's no slouch in the pulling department, the CNJ rated those switchers as having 46,000 pounds of tractive effort. That's more pull than the CNJ's P43 Pacifics had! That's a nice assortment of WW2 era coal cars you've got, VERY impressive! And I see you've got one of Lionel's 1986 Statue of Liberty Centennial cabooses! Nice! A fun video! Thanks for posting!
Awesome review of an awesome find! Even if it's not prototypically correct in many ways, it's still an engine dear to my heart and until you got it I had no idea they ever made one at all. If you ever sell it, I want first dibs on it, or if you find another please let me know! I'd say definitely upgrade the whistle to something closer like she wore yesterday. I'm glad you were able to make it to Minersville to ride behind her and see her again.
Great review Nick! Lots to love about Imperial RailKing. Much nicer than traditional RailKing. Just gotta upgrade to a whistle closer to the real CNJ #113 - Ryan
Bummed MTH didn’t re release this recently. They made so many variations of this engine in the recent release I would’ve thought they would’ve included the 113 even if it was a custom run for a hobby shop around here.
