- The Brat - High School (Music Video)
I made this video of The Brat and their song "High School" using band footage taken at the Plaza de la Raza in 1981 and other misc 1981 footage taken at a southern California High School. The Brat was an early punk band from East L.A. and they played a number of clubs in the punk circuit including the Vex and Starwood in L.A. and the Cuckoo's Nest in O.C. They were signed back then by Tito of the Plugz to be the very first band on his Fatima record label.

The Brat - High School 1981 ATOMIC 01
Man, i cant believe i just found this band at 65 years old. The punk attitude never goes away. Thank you brats.❤
Boyle heights /EAST LA at its finest!! 🔥🔥🔥 when’s the reunion show?!!!!
Great track and vid . An overlooked band for sure that was rocking like the rest
I hated High School. I cranked this song back in 81
I was in the third grade in 81 and about 7000 kilometres from L.A. was this song well known in 81? It should have been, it's great.
@@finnmcginn9931 I was a punk. So in some circles yes. I tapped the record of a friends copy
Beast from 2023 here we are still let's gooooo!!!!!! 🙌🙌🙌💪💪🔥
You can hear the influence from Middle Class and The Plugz. Cool band.
Or THEY influenced them
Definitely, cool a.f east L.A. band. Tbh didn't discover them til a half a year ago when I watched the doco about Madam Wongs place and the other competing club. Chinatown wars was the name of the documentary I think?
@@drunvertThe Plugz and Middle Class had already been playing for at least a year before The Brat formed and years before they put out their single or played gigs. Everyone who was in the SoCal scene knows who the pioneers were and many of them were Mexican-American-The Zeros from Chula Vista, The Plugz from East LA., Alice Bag from The Bags. The Brat were a great band but they weren’t influential. Nothing wrong with that. But The Middle Class changed everything in SoCal with Out of Vogue-listen to how it stood out on the Tooth and Nail LP: the first band to play super fast, paving the way for the Circle Jerks, Fear, etc.
I was in an early teenage SoCal hardcore band formed in ‘79, and it was an exciting time to be young.

Not seen the doc but was there in the plaza-too young to get into Madame Wong’s but the bands we wanted to see only played at the Hong Kong anyway because Madame Wong didn’t like punk rock.
@@davividavid Yeah doco is all about the rivalry tween Wong and the Hong Kong. Was actually funny in parts , they were having "flyer wars" at one point. Yeah realised Wong only put on the punk bands only for a short time at the start at her place. Hong Kong was the home of the punk scene in that area. Wong was very picky about what bands she let play at hers. She was way too conservative for the punk bands , why she threw them out of her place and put on the local new wave bands and or soft rock bands . I know u say u were around back then , but yeah it's a great doco about the history of those two venues and early LA punk scene in general there. Funny thing is later on some local journalists wrote a retrospective article about Wong calling her the "Queen of punk" . She knew that was bs, had to know but she was loving the attention. Would of been a lot more appropriate if they'd called her the " Queen of new wave"
The production on this track is great! New fan here!!
Love them
Way ahead of their time holy shit! First time hearing this
