It tells the tragic love story of two Chinese boys from the period of the Anti-Japanese War to the period of the Cultural Revolution. Worshiping the heavens and the earth is a ritual for Chinese people when they get married. Two people who get married kneel down and worship the heavens and earth to express their gratitude to nature and hope to receive the blessings of the heavens and the earth. The two male protagonists in this story, their parents and relatives were killed by the Japanese invaders, and the two of them joined the army together to fight the Japanese war. After the war, two people who could not get married because of their gender lived happily together for nearly 20 years. In 1966, during the Cultural Revolution, two people in their thirties prayed for the blessings of heaven and earth so that they could still love each other after they died, so the two of them knelt down as if they were married and shouted: "One day to worship the heaven and the earth. !" And then got shot by the bad guys"
Love is sacred but this heavenly fated marriage bond is such a delicate yet powerful bond yet so pure, looking as if it will break at any moment but nah this fated union made by the universe is just unbreakable.

I guess nobody knows that this song was not composed for a man and a woman but for two gentlemen. The story was a tragedy of two guys who love each other, not a happy ending for heterosexual people.
