I own one & I drive the shit out of it. In 2yrs, it's seen a dozen track days. It's on it's 3rd set of brakes. Brakes that will last over 100k miles in normal driving. In 2yrs & 15k miles, this car has not needed one repair. (outside of brakes & a bunch of tires). I got the base & sent it to a good upholsterer to get the seats fixed & the interior & stereo right. But it's solid, dependable & runs like mad. Ohh, it will clear 200mph, gotta love track days
These guys are being way too nitpicky on the ZR1. If you don't like a 650 hp v8 you can buy a brand new Porsche Boxter for the same price. Saying I can think of all kinds of slightly used cars also isn't a fair comparison, unless we're going to be using the slightly used price of 70 grand as a fella on here mentioned. If you don't like beating 250,000 dollar Ferraris at track day with a car a third of the price. You can pick up a Porsche and drive around town and be mundane. This car is not about mundane.
This is why the Grand sport from 10-13' is and was such a huge hit. Taking so much from the ZR1 and putting it in the grand sport just makes it still the best bang for your buck even today. I own a 2013 grand sport 3lt and I would not want to own any other vette. It is the perfect amount of power even stock at 436hp for a weekend sports car but it can easily be upgraded to insane levels too. The handling is top notch too for that era and still rivals and beats a lot of cars today. Having driven the C4,C5,C6,C7, I would still pick my C6 grand sport out of those models any day any time. If you don't own a 10-13' grand sport,, get one while you still can because with all the electric vehicle stuff taking over in the next 10yrs, they will be impossible to find. I can only speak for myself but for me the C6 grand sports are timeless and I think the pinnacle of America's daily driver v8 sports car for the average person while still retaining the classic look of the Corvette. If there was no C6 grand sport then, I would be a C5 owner. The one thing I miss on the C6 is the pop up headlights because Aerodynamics be damned! They are just awesome and iconic.
I have a '10 GS 3lt, 6-speed triple Black convertible, with 13,800 miles. I'm the second owner and know who ordered it back in 2010. I got it off the dealership he had ordered it thru new. He just recently retired from the Sheriff Dept, so I know it got babied. I've only put 3,800 miles on it in the 6 years I've owned it. Unless I can find me a comparable c6 ZR1 i cant live without, I'll probably have it the rest of my life.
I love how unlike Ferarri, lambo, or any other exotic, you can take this to a normal car shop to get a tune up or oil change or whatever. Similar to a viper in that way, you can work on your own car if you really wanted to. You can forget about doing anything like that with a Ferarri. Changing your own oil voids your warranty.
Not it doesn't lol. As long as you have receipts to prove you changed it. Super cars are easy and cheap to change the oil. The brakes and tires are really the only things that are more expensive than normal cars. However the ZR1 has Carbon Brakes and uses tires just like the super cars so they are just as expensive!!! You are thinking of hyper cars.
Can confirm: this car is next level. Everything T&P said is bang-on accurate. Have a 2013 here that needed some love and restoration. The gearing, power, and powertrain are outstanding. $30k interior with a $100k chassis and powertrain. 60mph in 1st gear. 90 in 2nd. 125 in 3rd. 4th goes to plaid (148mph) Sounds and feels amazing. Makes you hyper aware that it could kill you. If you like speed but still want to fly under the radar, this is your dance partner. Just pick your favorite color and enjoy the rocket ship experience. 🚀 ❤️
These guys lost me soon as he started complaining about the interior. This car is a damn American Icon!! If I had $120k to spend it would without a doubt be spent on one of these. Not a foreign car that looks as if some interior design professional did the inside! Chevrolet didnt want the car loaded with technology and gadgets. It allowed them to focus on raw performance.
The C6 ZR1 is an amazing car, but they have some valid points. You know what else is backing up their points? Go on the Vette forums and you will see owners complain about the same things. The seats are a huge complaint, and when you're charging $125k for a car 7-10 years ago, it's a valid complaint. Go to Recaro and get a proper seat. Get better trim materials, you put a carbon fiber roof on the car you could have made carbon fiber interior trim panels. No car is perfect so these are the faults they're telling you are there. At no point did they ever say don't buy the car, they actually had many more good things to say. Again, it takes nothing away at all from the car but at that price point they are right that Chevy should have done a bit more with the interior. That said, I would love to own one, and with prices down now for a clean used one, I may possibly be able to.
Bought a new 2019 Corvette Grand Sport, with a MANUAL TRANSMISSION, and it’s a great car! Huge power, fantastic handling, and with the magnetic ride control, the car goes from track stiff to cruising smooth in an instant. My wife even asks when we can go for drives in the Grand Sport, and that rarely happens with my NSX.
I prefer a LS7 Z06 because 7.0L is absolutely crazy. But This car is crazy fast, I remember an owner of one giving me a ride in one. Still to this day, the fastest car I've ever been in.
I don't even know why anybody would compare a ZR1 to a Bentley. It's an idiotic comparision. 458 Italia, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Gallardo LP570, GTR those are the ones to compare it to and a same year car costs twice that of a ZR1. I wouldn't buy a ZR1 or a SRT Viper as a Daily Driver if I had 100,000$ to spare, but as a Weekend Toy, hell yes. For a Daily Driver Fast Car I would (for that money) go with a M5, space, comfort and power.
Actually that's incorrect. In our FAQ videos the guys have discussed their top 5 favorite cars. Currently neither one of them have any US made cars in their top 5. We hope you'll watch more of our work to see that the guys have very little bias and do everything they can to judge cars on their merit, not on their reputation, origin, or brand. Thanks for covering the awesome ZR-1 I always like your reviews, but I can't let this one go. When you see carbon fiber, leather, aluminum, etc.., in a Corvette, it's real. That car had the upgraded interior that is quite nice. However, I agree, the center stack was getting dated by the time the ZR 1 was launched.
DustinCorvetteZr1 Thought so. I had two of them but neither had it. All I remember is guys on the Corvette Forums bitching about the incredibly expensive replacement shocks for cars with that option. Sorry flippppppppppppp you're wrong.
Soooooo You nit pick a car that can hit 200 Last over 100,000 miles be repaired when it breaks at a reasonable price. And you would recommend a used performance car that will need repairs at a high cost . Love to see a return to this test today against name your older BMW and see what the cost of ownership would be over the 9 years since this
I am 17 years old and this is by far my favorite car. There is nothing I would love more than to cruise around in 638hp, rev the engine, and "have the piss compressed right out of me." Don't talk about things you don't know about; you'll just look silly ;)
I easily believe Paul that the ZR1 has the best brakes he's experienced. In fact, the ZR1 holds the record for shortest 60-0 braking distance at 93 feet. The closest thing (if I remember correctly, were a 430 Scuderia and a Z06 at 94).
We hope you noticed that the guys gave this car pretty high ratings, and spoke steadily about how amazing it is for power and handling. But, it does had a disappointing interior (especially for its cost) and they would remiss to not mention it candidly. Otherwise, since people shop cars based on the number Before the comma (the thousands), Todd referred to it as a "3 figure automobile" - 125k. A bit confusing, we admit - he'll do better next time.
To the 3 or 4 of you having an intense argument on this page... It seems doubtful that you will agree. We're glad you found us and watched our review, Thank You! RandyJM21 I honestly couldn't think of a better way to die.. other than the usual: Hundreds of grandchildren, utter domination of known space, and the pleasure of hearing that all my enemies have died in terrible, highly improbable accidents that cannot be connected to me.
As a 65 year old owner of a Corvette, I'd like to explain the magic of driving a Corvette (even at 55mph :-), but you're just too young to understand the sense of history and heritage that's part of the experience. Too bad!
had a 2005 Corvette for 3 months, got it for $22,060 at a police auction (we were bidding up by $10 at the end.... heh he). Drove that wonderful car faster then anything else before or after (so far), but my block neighbor down the street offered me $4,000 more than I paid, so I sold. Its probably a good thing I sold it, was so easy to get in dangerous situations (normal people should not have things that can go 170mph), that car could go beyond my driving skills. Got a 95 Cadillac DeVille with some engine mods, it will out run most family size cars or trucks, but still easy to drive. Never thought I would own a Caddy but got a trade for a 1970 Ford F100 hotrod we owned for nearly 9 years (being able to take your friends along in the Caddy, makes it better). Never own a single cab truck again after having a luxury (almost) hotrod. *smile* later =o]
I agree. Mechanically the car is great, as is every other LS motor. My only concern was that for the longest time, the steering wheel, the headliner, the seats seemed to have been either low in quality or straight from the GM parts bin. When I drive a sports car which approaches the status of a super car, I would prefer a level of refinement and to remind me that the driving experience is something special. I don't doubt that the 2013 Vette and future models will address these concerns.
this car is definitely a monster. and i see that more and more high end performance cars are using launch control (or some form of it). i remember everyone was clowning nissan for putting launch control in the GTR, but looks like Chevy, Porsche, and Lambo are doing it too. i would definitely love to step into this car and experience the thrilling of pushing this thing to its limits.
@VpY22 I'm not sure you got what I was trying to say. The ZR1 they tested was pre2012 and does not come with the brand new sport seats offered as an option from the factory. What I meant was that IF these guys are going to complain about the seats, they should at least try the new ones out first. The complaints about the seats is the reason GM decided to update them for the 2012 model year. I'm not doubting that these ones aren't so great; I just would like their impression on the new ones
Awesome review. Love that someone else besides me finally noticed that Corvette drivers are indeed nursing home escapees driving at golf cart speeds. Best quote "This car is so fast that dental records won't even matter". Well done guys. BTW have you ever thought of doing some generation comparisons i.e. E30, 36, 46, 92 M3s, Mustangs Fox, SN95, New Edge, S197 etc.?
Agreed, I acknowledged other variables by saying "all things being equal" otherwise we simply argue in futility. At the end of the day, it is you and I (e.g. consumers) that determine what prices are, not firms. It's called equilbrium price (P*). And if Ferrari were overpriced, demand would fall to zero.
dude this is that kind of car that you shouldnt give a crap about a fancy interior thats not its intention. it was made to be a amazing performance car not to be a luxury car
I know, man...I'm with you. GM intentionaly didn't give the ZR1 and Z06 a super luxury interior because all it does is increase weight, which is a big no-no for sports cars and supercars. Weight is the enemy on these performance cars, and the manufacturers always try to keep the vehicle's weight as low as possible.
best corvette made to date...until 2014 when the c7 comes out! i agree with ALL corvette reviews in that the car power train and looks are are awesome. only let down is the interior. However gm and has been listening to feedback and specifically stated they are focusing on upgrading the interior on the c7.
The Apex Predator 0518 The Zora ZR1!! Thats the car im saving up to buy! I was gonna get the new Z06 but then I read that the New Zora ZR1 Is going to have over 800+ HP!!! And Is Going to be Truly A BEAST!
@mercracer24 but you would want seats that hold you in. that's what recaro bucket seats do. the car is moving so fast but the seat tugs you in place and doesnt allow you to be thrown around your seat. the ZR1 is a monster though.
Why are you seeing 60+ year old men driving these.? Because more than likely they retired with a great 401K and a great retirement. But yes I agree with you, they never drive them like they should. I mean I've passed many on the freeway, at 73, and they are cruising in the slow lane at 65 mph, 5 under the posted speed here in Michigan. But I guess, these are the cars I would seek out to buy used. You know they were never abused.! Me, personally I would look for a 505 hp Z06. 638 hp, seems attractive, but in the configuration of a C6 it struggled to put power down. 505 seems to be more manageable. I'm soon to be 57, I love the old classic cars of 50's through the early 70's, but bang for your buck, a newer Corvette gets you hp, handling and mpg. It's a great combination.
I'll be honest. Whether the interior is made out of Plastic or totally covered in leather from headliner to carpet. (I don't like the idea of suede in my car because What will you do when it's raining, water & suede don't mix. It's stupid) all I care about being leather wrapped on my car would be the steering wheel, seats, shifter knob, and maybe the door panels. Not the dash, not the carpet. Not the console. If I want a car with a luxurious 24 karat gold lined interior then I'll buy a Bugatti or Rolls Royce something. Not a Corvette. It is not designed to be the most luxurious interior you have ever seen. Nobody thinks of interior decor when you hear the name Corvette. NOBODY. When you think Corvette you think of one thing... SPEED... SPEED THAT RIVALS EUROPE'S BEST SUPERCARS FOR FAR LESS MONEY. And THAT is the reason why you buy CORVETTE.
i couldn't even find it on the nissan official website but the gtr has a 0-60 under 3 sec and awd handling. it's known to be video game quick precise which is a good or bad thing depending on the driver. the interior is the topic of discussion though and yes it is MUCH nicer for the price and still has similar performance AND is more practical in the real world
and I'm a huge Corvette fan, believe me. I'm not being obnoxious or ignorant in my criticism. it really comes from disappointment, not from disrespect. I know the Vette can go toe-to-toe with the Ferraris and Porsches on the track, so I want it to go toe-to-toe with them in real life, as well. it really pains me to realize that GM is so ignorant of the simple things that translate to bigger factors in business and sales, and reputation.
Yep, it's a real test, I have driven on the Nurburging, and it is really demanding from both the car and the driver. FWIW my best lap was 9.46 in a 911.
@YuppieGearhead Porsche also borrowed magnetic shocks from GM as well. I believe it's what they use for their "active engine mounts" in the newest 911's.
Good review. My C5 had a better interior than my C6. BUT... it is a vette and it is a LOT of fun... and the interior issues can be handled aftermarket (I'd do that with any car I'd own). But, complaining about the car being TOO fast is rather silly since well.. that's what it was made for and why people would buy the top dollar offering.
The GT500 is an SVT product, and while Carrol (RIP) had some input about the car, it was designed, engineered and built by Ford at the factory. Shelby America is Carrols company, and builds the Super Snakes, GT-H, and GT350 but not the GT500.
@loudblazer Thats very true. BUT, no one is gpong to use a Mustang as a comparison when talking about lap times. I do agree with you though. It all depends on what you want. I prefer something I can just have a lot of fun in between 40 and 100 MPH and doesn't stick me in a ditch.
To be entirely honest, if I could afford this, I'd end up jumping over this car, and get the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe (Black Diamond Sport Performance Package). It gets to 190 mph, supercharged V8, and ends up costing 80-95 Grands, making it cheaper and nearly as fast as the ZR-1. Not to mention the luxury/practicality you get from the Cadillac. Now you can argue against that all day if you want, but at the end of the day, I'd be a lot happier with the CTS-V Coupe. That's just me though.
I own one & I drive the shit out of it. In 2yrs, it's seen a dozen track days. It's on it's 3rd set of brakes. Brakes that will last over 100k miles in normal driving. Atta boy!! It can take it!!
HCI on 100 shot here, cant help but beat on it when I cruise.
You never seen a corvette going fast? Shiiittt come to tx and you gonna change your mind
I wanted that car and they sold in 30 minutes
Red I'm going red anyone I can get right now I want what I want on three times the horsepower 21 horse my next 735 is going to have 21
Well with 1400 horsepower you're coming at him fast nothing will be at ot
Dam right, Don’t mess with Texas!

I love when the exhaust tips jump like that on launch

Wonder how much the opinion changes today at a price of around $55k
Keep it up America, you'll get there one day.
@bottomlayer, it is still a push-rod 2 valve motor that gets 525 HP without the supercharger. I think that is impressive.
had a 2005 Corvette for 3 months, got it for $22,060 at a police auction (we were bidding up by $10 at the end....
*smile*
later =o]
That launch was DIRTY!!!!!!!!
Love the vids guys. My favorite car reveiwers
Why they are trash. Edit: Oh they hate oh American.
Sport Mode stiffening the Suspension in Corners just before you Die😂 Sooo True!
If a lot is good, more must be better.
Best. Quote. Ever.
''the problem with a head-up-display like this is that you can no longer say: officer, i had no idea! cause... yea ya did.'' LMAO
this car is definitely a monster. and i see that more and more high end performance cars are using launch control (or some form of it). i remember everyone was clowning nissan for putting launch control in the GTR, but looks like Chevy, Porsche, and Lambo are doing it too. i would definitely love to step into this car and experience the thrilling of pushing this thing to its limits.
this car deserves a revisit
@VpY22 I'm not sure you got what I was trying to say. The ZR1 they tested was pre2012 and does not come with the brand new sport seats offered as an option from the factory. What I meant was that IF these guys are going to complain about the seats, they should at least try the new ones out first. The complaints about the seats is the reason GM decided to update them for the 2012 model year. I'm not doubting that these ones aren't so great; I just would like their impression on the new ones
"Magnetic adjustable shocks, that's never been on a corvette before." I have magnetic ride control on my 98 C5.
Did it come like that from the factory?
Awesome review. Love that someone else besides me finally noticed that Corvette drivers are indeed nursing home escapees driving at golf cart speeds. Best quote "This car is so fast that dental records won't even matter". Well done guys. BTW have you ever thought of doing some generation comparisons i.e. E30, 36, 46, 92 M3s, Mustangs Fox, SN95, New Edge, S197 etc.?
More videos! I love these!
You're right about most Vette owners.I have a ZR1 & I won't go near a Corvette meet.
dude this is that kind of car that you shouldnt give a crap about a fancy interior thats not its intention. it was made to be a amazing performance car not to be a luxury car
well its about god damn time a video came out :)
Yea and now they’re heavy with a nice interior
You guys are atop the "Best".
I'm Hooked!!!
best corvette made to date...until 2014 when the c7 comes out! i agree with ALL corvette reviews in that the car power train and looks are are awesome. only let down is the interior. However gm and has been listening to feedback and specifically stated they are focusing on upgrading the interior on the c7.
Can't wait for the c7 zr1 to come out idk when but is coming back and the fates muscle car again
The Apex Predator 0518 I'm hoping for 700+ Horsepower and a 0-60 that beats the z06 by at least half a second.
No more the 750hp+, You agree??
The Apex Predator 0518 The Zora ZR1!! Thats the car im saving up to buy! I was gonna get the new Z06 but then I read that the New Zora ZR1 Is going to have over 800+ HP!!! And Is Going to be Truly A BEAST!
Alexander Weber lol corvette is coming back
Zora ZR1? How'd you get that name? But Idk if its going to be a c7 or a c8, either way, it'll be amazing.
You guys and SmokingTire would make a great Top Gear USA team!.
Wouldn't doubt it.
if anyone is reading from everydaydriver... I want to see more vett videos!!!
@mercracer24 but you would want seats that hold you in. that's what recaro bucket seats do. the car is moving so fast but the seat tugs you in place and doesnt allow you to be thrown around your seat. the ZR1 is a monster though.
I love the GTR, and its technologies but Id go for the RWD, V8 supercar duh! (with a new interior of course)
You guys give the best reviews and tell the truth. I think all the manufactures should listen to your reviews.
I think the gauges are awesome!
"If a lot if good, More is better" Lmfaoooooo America af
Why is it that no one says what year these cars are??? What year is the Vette?
Cool review.
you guys should do a c6 z51 bang for your buck
I like these older episodes where you guys were less PC.
You couldn’t have said it better! 👏🏼🙌🏼
i couldn't even find it on the nissan official website but the gtr has a 0-60 under 3 sec and awd handling. it's known to be video game quick precise which is a good or bad thing depending on the driver. the interior is the topic of discussion though and yes it is MUCH nicer for the price and still has similar performance AND is more practical in the real world
and I'm a huge Corvette fan, believe me.
FWIW my best lap was 9.46 in a 911.
i fuckin love the zr1! its so faaaaast and extremely good lookin! it beats all of its rivals and it beats the hell out of every gtr :D
@YuppieGearhead Porsche also borrowed magnetic shocks from GM as well. I believe it's what they use for their "active engine mounts" in the newest 911's.
I think the interior's ok. I could certainly live with it knowing what the rest of the car had to offer :)
Watching the exhaust pipes dance at 1:22. Dear god
Most people miss the point this is a super car that can run with and beat anything you throw at it for 100 to 200 thousand dollars cheaper
" this car is just stupid insane" and i have never wanted one more
@loudblazer Thats very true. BUT, no one is gpong to use a Mustang as a comparison when talking about lap times. I do agree with you though. It all depends on what you want. I prefer something I can just have a lot of fun in between 40 and 100 MPH and doesn't stick me in a ditch.
Nice video guys.... I want one with BBS LMs
WRX Owner
Awesome review! But that window doesn't show a plastic top. It is the metal top of the supercharger.
GM must have listened to you guys, because they did go to Recaro for sport seats for the C7.
This was the last time that the ZR-1 looked like a "normal" Corvette.
I think he meant one long haired son of bigfoot . . . Driving Fairbanks, Alaska . Larry Hernandez
You got a video comparisons on the Nurburgring, and not some piddling little sprint track OR the same quartet at Silverstone?
