Hunter reacts to the teaser the first time and we both discuss, analyze and theorize about what we see here. Who are these new characters? What happened to Jaune? Official Synopsis:
After the harrowing events of Volume 8, our heroines are thrust into an unknown world - the Ever After! However, once Team RWBY explores this strange and mysterious realm, they quickly discover it might not be quite as unknown as they first assumed. As they journey to find a way back home, they'll have to overcome some of their toughest challenges yet - the struggle of their own identities, and whether or not they're equipped to stop Salem.

The green weapon thing in Ruby's hand is the magic sword penny made to fight Cinder after becoming human
One thing leading towards Jaune being the Knight is the fact that its surrounded by fire.
Jaune's allusion is Joan of Arc, who was burned at the stake, so it'd definitely fit.
That sword is one of the ones Penny made when she was fighting Cinder and realized she didn’t have her swords so she made those either with the maiden powers or her semblance as a human.
Hunter I love you for also making a "Absolutely by Nine Days" reference with that opening line XD Like I did after watching this too.
Also the green thing Penny's "reflection" showed up in is one of the Maiden magic blades Penny made to fight Cinder since she was a human and lacked her Floating Array blades
If that is jaune, I actauly hope he keeps the helmet and the rust or stains on him, I think it'll fit well with his vacuo design kinda like boba fett's design before the mandalorian

If the Knight is Jaune I don't think the transition you mentioned would be the result of any inherent weakness on his part. More likely is that he arrived on the island nearly catatonic because of the guilt he would feel for killing Penny. If so the island would have little trouble imprinting a twisted version of Jaune's self image onto what would now be basically a blank slate. Maybe.
Be crazy if Neo slowing becoming Roman could be a nod to the Mad Hatter
I really like the idea of it being Summer or Alyx, but I also noticed that the narrator low key sounds like it could be Saphron's VA. Could be her telling the story to Adrian or a Young Jaune
Honestly going back and comparing the voices it definitely sounds like saphrons voice. If so I hope we get some more backstory into jaunes early life/family history, Cus I’m not sure if icequeen dom starting backstory is the same as cannon but when jaune was suffering from the nightmare and called out for help he only called out for his big sister. Not mom or dad and not even sisters just singular big sister which I think is saphron, this could lead to many things regarding jaunes childhood and relationship with the rest of his family besides saphron.
I'm very concerned for Jaune tbh.. but also SO hyped for this volume!
yea think about it. Jaune went threw some trauma and hasnt had time to deal with it and now is in a neverland like place. he could go bad and needs to be saved in the next 2 seasons.

it could be a interaction in the tree like in starwars when Luke face Vader an saw himself in the mask.
Someone breaking Neo's illusion of Roman would be a big trigger for her anger considering Roman Holiday. She'd probably remember how she used to create an imaginary friend out of illusions and had it broken by her parents, which would make her anger come out more severely now on top of it being an illusion of Roman that she uses for comfort or stability.

Interesting that despite that this volume is going to have a lot of things to do with Alice and wonderland we haven’t seen the white rabbit in this teaser yet considering the white rabbit is the reason the whole Alice and wonderland thing started in the first place.
22:55 I think that’s actually Alice. Think about the person’s feet you saw on the beach, maybe that was a flashback to her when she was younger in the past.
Why do I feel like volume 9 will have the least amount of fights in any volume?

I rewatched your reaction of the Indecisive King, and you said that the horned figure that reminded you of the God of Darkness.
You theorised that could the spirit of the Relic of Choice, like Jinn or Ambrosius, that figure could the figure at 9:11 be that spirit. Ozpin did tell Ruby he made the Beacon Relic, the Relic of Choice harder to find than the others, what if it's in the Ever After.
Yes exactly! We had a theory the relic of choice was “in the fairytale book” - when we thought the Ever After was the culmination of a bunch of fairytales. Maybe that dude is the relic in disguise!
Hey Cal @ 12:23, what if its the other way around. What if Neo save Jaune from fully turning. Cause think of Neo having an identity criaist when she first activated her semblance and it was Roman who help her to fully understand Who Neo is. So Neo helps Jaune like how Roman helped her😍🥰🥰
Wait about the gods and the creature with the horns. When the gods left the world after everyone was thanos’d, they said they’d learn from the mistakes they’d made with humans on their next experiment. What if this world is that next experiment. It’s reminiscent of the gods because it’s an outfit of worship or a creature made in their image. What if the world they were transported to wasnt like an afterlife or limbo world but another planet in the universe the gods experimented on? It would make sense since the mistake was human’s and their hubris, so therefore no humans here. So Little doesn’t know what humans are.

23:39 The character kinda looks like Winter to me. The armor looks a lot like her back and arm braces, and if the island takes from emotions/memories then it isn't so far-fetched to think that it's one version of how Weiss sees Winter, or even a mashup of how all of the characters have seen Winter. If she *is* the Queen of Hearts, wouldn't it make sense if she had a symbolic connection to the Tin Man without a heart? Winter's military background also has her follow lots of strict rules (which also falls into how the QoH is portrayed, enforcing strict and nonsensical rules, with her own card soldiers and military). She also had a clear fight between her heart and head last volume as well, which again, falls into the "off with their heads" motif of the Queen of Hearts (she stopped listening to her mind and started listening to her heart).
It would also be fascinating if she's the island identity of Weiss, like how you theorized that Jaune is the white knight, since she looks up to Winter so much.
Or she could even be the knave/right hand of the Queen (or King) of Hearts and a completely different character from Weiss or Winter!
Oh I just thought of something... Ruby doesn't know the context of Penny's death. So what if when Weiss tells her, she just gets the information of "Jaune killed her and Winter became the next maiden." And Ruby now sees them as enemies? The island takes that pure feeling of betrayal and heartbreak and creates the burning white knight and the militaristic queen of hearts.
They brought back penny to life. I have been waiting for pyrhaa revival omggg

What if the crown individual is corrupted Weiss(Probably dumb idea)?
The island layout reminds me of Tinrou from Fairytale.
It would though because Pyrrha was shot in the heart and then burst into dust by flames

This has been something I wanted to get off my chest for a couple of days now. Hopefully, you stick around to the end of this comment and hear me out.
Now that we know more about Volume 9, I have but one hope for the volume.
I'm now hoping that the Ever After is not only RWBY's equivalent of Wonderland, but also its afterlife.
This was one of the biggest speculations people had about where Team RWBY landed in Volume 8's finale. And let's be honest, "Ever After" sounds like the name of an afterlife, doesn't it?
There are multiple afterlifes in fiction which are more than just "eternal rest". Take the Shadowlands from World of Warcraft, for instance. It's a vast dimension with countless lands that can be explored. Another example is a recent take Marvel Comics did on the afterlife, which had a fantasy theme.
And even Kingdom Hearts IV all but confirmed that for Sora and Strelitzia, Quadratum is the Kingdom Hearts afterlife.
I want this mysterious island in the Ever After to be just the tip of the iceberg. I want the Ever After to effectively be a fully-developed world with its own lore, kingdoms, and threats, akin to Remnant itself.
And above all else, I want to make sure that Penny is okay.
Not as a transparent spirit, but as a human of flesh(?) and blood(?) who can't go back to Remnant. That's what I want from a deceased person in the RWBY universe.
I want confirmation that while Penny can't return home ever again, and while she can't see Ruby ever again, she's nevertheless still living(?) a second life in the Ever After, where she can finally learn what it is to be human.
This could make all of the events that transpired in Volume 8 worth it, and then some.
Her struggle with the Winter Maiden powers.
The virus implanted into her.
Obtaining a new body.
And being killed once more.
Should Penny appear in Volume 9, she can share her final farewell with Ruby. She can assure Ruby that she'll be okay-relay a message to her father that she'll be okay.
She could say that "all the feels" line from Friend. She can even say what she said to Winter: "I won't be gone. I'll be part of you."
And then she can embark on new adventures in the Ever After-even if Ruby can't be a part of them.
After all, a couple of throwaway lines in the earliest volumes of RWBY seemed to hint at something huge planned for Penny. Her driver in Volume 1 mentioned that her time will come. The following volume, she explains that one day it'll be her job to save the world.
Who said that she needed to be alive for both of these things to happen?
In fact, I'll go ahead and say it. If the Ever After is the afterlife, and Penny and countless other people from RWBY are living there…
We need a Penny-centric Ever After spinoff show. NOW.
Have Penny's time come. Have her explore the afterlife and embrace being a human. And on her journeys…
Bring back Pyrrha and show us how she's doing, have her be the Jaune to Penny's Ruby, and have them fight again-hopefully without villainous interference.
Clover could lead a new battalion of deceased warriors, and Vine could be among them.
Hazel may be trying to find his sister, wanting to see how she's doing.
Vernal might have formed a new bandit brigade akin to Raven's.
Rhodes may be training a new disciple that hopefully doesn't turn evil.
Lionheart and Ironwood must be expressing deep regret for their actions on Remnant, and could atone.
Tock is too interesting to be a one-and-done villain, and who knows what Adam's doing.
Salem and Ozma's daughters may have mastered their magical powers in the eons since their deaths (although, given they're children, they need to be careful with them).
I want a long-awaited confrontation between Penny and Watts. In fact, we need to know more about Watts. Tell us about the Paladin Incident.
Jacques may be getting a new clip-on tie to replace the older one Ironwood destroyed.
And if we are, indeed, in the afterlife, prove it by having Roman be a major villain in the volume. Have him team up with Neo one last time in order to take down Little Red. This could also allow Neo to finally get closure on Roman's death.
Speaking of which, it could also allow more Pinocchio references to appear. The island could very well be the "Pleasure Island" of the RWBY universe, and it makes sense for Roman to be here, given that he's supposed to be Lampwick.
And we could finally see the franchise's versions of Jiminy Cricket, Honest John, and Gideon-all plausible now given how talking animals are officially a thing here.
Perhaps this could also allow Penny to fight Monstra at long last.
This was the sole reason why I believed that no matter what, we haven't seen the last of Penny. It's not because of bias towards her.
Even if Penny's dead, the fact that they've yet to add arguably some of the most important characters in the Pinocchio mythos to RWBY is something worth mentioning.
And imagine: should there be more character deaths in RWBY, those characters could then make appearances in this hypothetical Ever After show.
And we could also see never before seen characters in the Ever After as well.
But it's not just about these characters' futures. It's about exploring the Ever After itself.
This mysterious island we're on would almost certainly be just one portion of a brand new world we know nothing about. So worldbuilding should give us the knowledge we know.
And going back to Kingdom Hearts, knowing that Sora was teleported to a fictional world as part of the afterlife, perhaps the Ever After is an afterlife of similar sorts: a land where the deceased go to that's also home to people/creatures/myths/worlds that are fictional to Remnant.
In short, I want the Ever After to be RWBY's afterlife-one where characters like Penny and Pyrrha effectively live second lives and go on new adventures.
I just want to know that they're okay.
And just imagine: Ruby is fighting against Salem for the stake of the world. If Penny gets her own show in the Ever After, she could fight someone who threatens both life and death. Her time could still come yet, even after death.
Given how the Ever After was conceived before RWBY even premiered, I hope this was part of Monty's grand plan all this time.
Besides, RWBY's nearing its tenth anniversary, so the first official spin-off to the show could be a way to celebrate.
And if so, TWO salutations for Penny: a farewell one for Remnant and Ruby.
And an introductory one for her new life in the Ever After.
Penny's life ended much too soon, but I hope that life was just her first-and the beginning of her very own odyssey.
P.S. It's also possible for that blue-skirted girl in the teaser to be a reincarnated Penny, a la Ozma. If we do see the dead characters again, I do NOT want them to be reincarnated into different forms. I want the designs we know and love instead.
They wouldnt be able to find pennys mechanical body cause it vanished after they made the centeral location

What if when they finally leave this place everyone goes through a portal or whatever but just before Ruby & Yang do, Yang stops and tells her she can't go beck because she's actually dead?
what if there's some messed up time going on and Jaune actually arrived earlier than anyone and this is him after surviving for a while
I think its Alice. I don't really know about the summer maiden. I feel like every time we 1st hear about the current maiden it's always from qrow talking to the headmaster or at the very least, the headmaster has knowledge. (Also keeping my 2yr long theory that the summer maiden passes the powers to illia, even though it'll probably be vol 10 or 11 to see if it's true or not lol.)
I think all of the citizens that got blown off the ledge by Cinder are probably on the island with team RWBY. I kinda doubt that's Alex. 🤷♂️ I could easily be wrong tho.
I like the concept of the chain figure being Penny's robot body reborn, but I doubt it since that body was destroyed after using the staff.
I've seen a lot of people suggesting Jaune could die based on the fire, but I personally don't put as much stock into it given he has a much clearer death flag with his biggest enemy basically having fire as a personality trait along with using it primarily, lol. I hope Jaune doesn't die this volume, I think it'd be really narratively unsatisfying

The green thing is the maiden power version of Penny's Floating Array. However, I've been questioning on what element it's made of.
Also, I like the idea of losing yourself in Ever After like Neo turning into Roman. Maybe, we see Neo struggling, and we see her as a sort of horrific amalgamation of her and Roman like they were stitched together

I just find it funny how Jaune the one male character who fell as well is the only character not directly shown while Rwby has been criticised for the poor writing when it comes to male characters. Idk personally Rwbys writing has been getting worse and worse to me so this will probably be the last season I toon in to if it continues the trend.

The reason why Jaune isn’t shown is probably because whatever is happening to him is a spoiler. I don’t think it’s that deep.
