    Really really like your reviews as a new fisherman searching for the best reel in the budget range. Started with a Mitchell Epic and wasnt satisfied, bought a Fierce 3 for the same price, not really satisfied but will be kept for saltwater fishing, now looking to buy either the Laguna or the Legalis. I think.. or I might throw even more money on the feeling and go with a Ultegra. The Laguna is cheaper than the Epic and Fierce was by 10$ and the Legalis pricier at 30$ more. The Ultegra 100$ more. Got no chanche to go and feel the Laguna, Legalis or Ultegra in a store only other Daiwas so will go by you reviewers opinion. Looking for a really smooth feeling and a solid feeling reel. I am a engine 2-stroke guy so the reel has to be tight and not "clicky" for me to be satisfied. I think i should have gone Japanese from the beginning, being a 2-stroke guy but hey.. sometimes you just dont think before buying.

      regal lt is usually $20 cheaper than legalis.. i think partially because of my videos. I told everyone how great the legalis and everyone wanted a legalis, but the regal LT is legalis too... Ultegra is lighter, better gears, but not that much smoother... Legalis is already so dam smooth

    I was searching for reel to replace the Regal Z- 2500C, that I've fished with for forever. Regal Z has been flawless since day 1. Found the Regal LT 2500D-XH (online & Locally) $59 or $49+ (S&H) seriously considered the Legalis but could not find a justification for the extra $10. I have the Regal 2500 LT.
    I bought it for my new Fenwick Techna Lite6’9” but it broke in half on day one. That’s OK Fenwick is AWESOME with there warranty and replacement was fast and easy. However I had a Pflueger President 30 fail with grinding, rubbing’ & noisy. Why I just don’t know. So I put the Regal on my Med- Lite Fenwick Bass Elite Tech Rod. It’s a marriage made in Heaven. I love this set up. I had a great weekend besides a ton of fish that I caught. My 3 biggest was a 30” Pike, 20 & 21” LM Bass with Sufix 832 8lbs line.
    Boating these fish was effortless the Regal’s performance was top-notch.
    Now that Fenwick replaced my rod I will put the Regal on that and buy my second Diawa Fuago 2500 LT only because it is better and higher quality reel and it will get so much more use. And has Mag Seal, Air Bail & Rotor, along with direct drive, higher drag capability. The Regal is a must buy for the money. You will not be sorry.

    I own both and have owned the regal 2000 for just over a year ,I agree , they are very close of which I feel the regal is just a little smoother.ive used the regal to catch Everything from white bass , hybrid to pan fish. At the price point daiwa cannot be beat. I've had issues with my bail. Questions remain as to the long term reliability of some of daiwas Lt technologies for the long run. IMO pay a little extra and get a shimano sedona. Will last longer , better cust service. Only negative is that it's a little heavier.

You have a nice boat, a little small for the great lakes, but good on a calm day..... and you should be fishing for Trout and Walleyes. I had a 1980 18' Sylvan with 70HP 2 stroke Johnson and I could troll all day. If you think catching small fish on the ultralights is a blast try 10-15 lb trout or salmon on an ultralight--I used 5'6' Ugly Stik ultralights and Abu Garcia Cardinal 154's with 6 lb mono .You could probably get away with 4lb braid I saw that Muskie you caught... all except the Lake Trout fight much better then they do. im thinking of leaving IL and moving South to a place with lower taxes, so too late for me. I did a little trolling with deep diving crankbaits and caught a jumbo drum... but all i find it harder and harder to do anything other than ultralight fishing these days. I used to carp fish and catfish all the time, but now that seems slow and i have no patience for that. I like to cast all the time, feel the lure, feel the bottom, feel the nibbles.. If i didn't have to work I could do all, but now i wait all week for the weekend, and can go fishing one day a week, and i can't go trolling or carp fishing..

    I was able to try these both side by side today in a bass pro shop, and definitely noticed a subtle clicking in the Legalis handle knob that was not present in the Regal. • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  Рік тому +1

      bearings do not help free play.... how could they? A bearing has the same dimensions as a bushing. Actually, if u use cheap bearings, the actual race of the bearing can have free play, while the bushing is always solid. If you had free play in one of the reels, its because in $50 reels tolerances are not perfect and not every reel is the same. If you get two other reels, the regal may have the free play and not Legalis. I'm not saying bearings don't do nothing - they make turning the knob smoother, but as far as free play, there is no difference between bearings and bushings. Now proper SHIMMMING does make a difference about free play..

      As for clicker, take off the spool and get a cotton tab and wipe the grease from the base of the spool. The grease acts as shock absorber and muffles the sound of the clicker. Also inspect the shape of the clicker itself. U may need to bend it a little to get it to stick out more

    I have the Legalis LT and love it. Talking about the drag. I moved to Washington State a few months ago and am relegated to very limited bank fishing until I get a boat. One lake I can bank fish at is LOADED with lily pads. After a couple weeks of learning how to fish that mess I tried a spinning rod with a texas rig. Been hauling out 4 and 5 lbers with it. Drag on Legalis has been awesome so far. And I hate power fishing but it is the only way to bass fish for now. No ultralight sadly til I get on the water. How long can the Legalis withstand that kind of fishing I can't tell yet of course but it has suprised me so far.

      Ryobi doesn't make reels any more. They rebadge Chinese or Korean reels, depending on price. As far as spinning reels go, they will never be as good as Daiwa and SHimano. In the spinning reel world you have only two choices - Daiwa or Shimano. In baitcasting u have more choices, because the Korean reels are very comparable in the low and mid price segments. But in spinning - only Daiwa and Shimano. Ryobi and DAM do not make reels, just resell junk

      its just a good reel. You can fish whatever u want with it. Kage is Tatula with cork handle, and one extra bearing in a place that doesn't matter.

    I’m looking at getting a new ultralight rod/reel setup for rainbow and brown trout. Looking at getting the daiwa Legalis 1000 reel and a st Croix premier 5’6 ultralight rod. What are your thoughts or recommendations? I will be using 4lb fluorocarbon. Thanks

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  4 роки тому +1

      st croix premier is a $50 rod that costs 100. Panfish elite is the same. I prefer the fenwick HMX 5'6 UL. Beautiful rod that actually has expensive components.
      Legalis is obviously a great reel, but between Legalis Exceler and Regal LT i would get whichever is on sale as it is one and the same reel

      No! No vibration at all. Tell them they are full of sh#t and ask them to try the other Regals and you will see they don't have it.

Or lets say that the handle moves couple of mm before the spoole turns. Hard too explain but there is a freeplay in the reel, is that normal for These LT-reels? Is your handle tight? What u describe is not normal. Tighten the knob well. Where did u buy it? Legalis have been sold out everywhere since my review became popular. Very often the only reel that the store has is what someone else returned.. you know what i mean? Tighten the knob and if u still have free play return it and buy the Exceler or Regal LT instead

      Thanks for your reply! I have now located the ”issue”..It is not the handle but the hexagonal Axel that the handle is mounted ”in”, if you pur the handle in from the left without the nut then you dont have any play, but from the otherside without pressure from the left you got att noticible freeplay, the shaft can move a little bit (normal) but the sound is when you get small pressure from the maingear(?), do you understand?:) I bought it from WaveInn, I am a follower from Sweden!

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  4 роки тому +1

      yes. I would. I use it as ultralight on several setups under 100. If you use a regular $60 rod the 2500 actually balances better. And has better drag and bigger gears, in case u get accidental catfish or something. And bigger gears last longer.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  4 роки тому +1

      good question. I think people have the wrong reflexes from years of fishing these heavy 500 size reels. The daiwa LT reels are so light that it makes no sense to go to the smallest size, unless u have very expensive and very light japanese rod. But then u probably wont buy Legalis anyway :) . I also like casting with bigger spool more

      Fuego and Regal are also the same reel. Body , gears, everything is the same. The only difference is Fuego has seals on main shaft, on spool, and on main gear axle. If u want to fish saltwater go Fuego. For saltwater... seals dont matter much, unless u fish in the rain or something..
