I've had a wool mat since the first year they were shown at a quilt show. It's the best piece of equipment I have in my sewing/craft room. I'm glad you got your stitching mojo back. It's good to see you again.
Thank you for showing this way of ironing the piece. I do have the spray so I will be purchasing the wool mat. Could you make a video of how you stitch in hand and what fabric you prefer to stitch on! I am so happy you are back!
Lorrie, thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. I had noticed how beautifully pressed all your pieces were in your last video, and I really admired how they looked. Now I know how to get similar results! 😊 Wishing you a happy, stitchy weekend! Meline
I’ve had my wool mat for many years , I’m also a quilter and mostly did small( mini) quilts and lots of pressing . Little did I know I would use it for cross stitch later on ! I use it more for my cross stitch than quilting !
When I began cross stitching years ago, I was told to iron them I was taught it makes the stitches puff out. I don't know if that's true or not, but it does make it look nicer.
So happy you are back!! Such good info!! I’m doing the same biscornu. Only in the called for colors. Starting from the outside in. May regret that.thinking of redoing it in smaller count.
It will be beautiful when finished. I had been second guessing my colors, and thought to restart in the original colors. After pulling it back out, I plan to stay the course.
Thanks for sharing. Very helpful and informative. Never thought about the moisture. I ordered a wool mat from Amazon and have a mist spray bottle and will try the Best Press in it. Tried the Best Press before and it came out in big blobs. Hopefully the mist bottle will fix that problem.
With the spray bottle, give it a quick squeeze or two away from the piece before spraying directly on your piece to “clear the line” of the nozzle. This should stop the blobs.
Thank you! I was just about to press my latest finish when this video popped up so it was very timely! I remember a previous ironing video from you after which I bought a wool mat which has proved invaluable. I think you must have a much better mat than mine from the way those creases came out!
Thx for that. The mat might be the difference. I will have to see if I can find one. You get a ton more out than I do. I have used Best Press for years after a video Vonna did. I didn’t catch it if you said you use steam or not??? Or what setting you use?? Thx again!
Hi Jeannie, I have a link listed in the description box below this video that has a link for the wool ironing mat. I do not use steam on my pieces. I set the iron for the appropriate setting for the type of fabric that I am ironing, linen cotton, etc.
Thanks Laurie for taking the time to make your videos. I do have a question. I know adding beads and buttons should be added after I’ve completed my stitching, but what I am wondering is, in the case of small pieces that I will be ironing interfacing on, do you recommend waiting to add beads and buttons until after you have ironed on the interfacing? Too late for me as I’ve added them already but wondering for future projects.
I add them prior to interfacing. My thought is that the interfacing helps to secure the threads that hold those bead and buttons in place. When there are beads and buttons, I will iron the piece from the back with the piece face down on a towel. BUT, not before making sure that those bead or buttons will not melt from the heat of the iron.
Question: how do you iron a piece done with silk threads? I mostly use DMC, or Weeks. But I just finished a piece with NPI silks. I have no idea on how - or even if - I should iron it. Great floss tube - thank you for sharing.
That is a good question, but one I can’t answer. I have yet to stitch a piece in NPI, and am not sure if they are colorfast. I am also unsure of how silk takes heat or steam.
Laurie great video! I use best press all the time. When using it over on the same piece multiple times does it change the feel of the fabric? I have only used it once on a piece & it didn't. Thanks have a great day.
Thank you so much! That was so helpful. I paused the video and ordered a wool mat.😊 You are so sweet to take the time to help us newer stitchers.❤
You are very welcome. I am happy to help. ❤️
I too am stitching up the 12 days, but individually as a flat fold to add into my Santa sleigh!
I hope to finish my piece this year. It going to be beautiful!

Thorough and informative. Excellent
Thank you Glee!
Thank you. It helps to see how others iron their pieces. I would also appreciate it if you could make a video on stitching in hand.❤
I will work on that for you. It’s a game changer, or at least it was for me.
Thanks, Lorrie. I ordered the same mat from Amazon and I hope I can get my pieces to look as nice as yours.
Hey! I am sure that you will. ❤️
Love your attention to detail……
Thanks, Lorrie!
You’re welcome. I hope that you found it helpful.
Thanks for this - saved for my finishing!

It is the perfect tool for ironing our cross stitch. ❤️
I keep the cardboard that came with the wool mat under it.

You’re very welcome!
Thank you for sharing have a wonderful evening and happy stitching 😊🪡🧵🤗🤩

I purchased one of these mats after watching you a couple of years ago. I absolutely love it. Best thing I did for my projects. Thank you

Can you do a video stitching in hand? Where do you start? How do you handle the bulk of a large piece of fabric? 😻
I will give it a try sometime soon. ❤️
Thank you for the info.
You’re welcome. ❤️
Thanks for these tips. I am certain this will help when I work on my own finishes or stretch work for framing.
You’re welcome. I am glad that you found it helpful.
We iron using the same method. I love Mary Ellen's! It's good to see you on FT again, but I know you've been busy with your new grandbabies.
Yes, very busy. They are a big joy in my life. ❤️
Thanks so much! So very helpful!
Thx so much. Very helpful! 🌺🌷💕❤️

Thank you for this helpful video. Can I please ask what iron you have? Glad you are stitching and recording again.
Tracey, I have a Sunbeam Iron that I have had for ages! It’s probably older than my children. It still works like a charm. ❤️

I have used it multiple times over several weeks and not had any discoloration or staining. Nor have I had any bleeding or running of my threads.
@@mischievousstitches Thank you Laurie thats good to know!
Thank you. How do you stitch in hand?
Using the sewing method. There is not hoop or Q-snap involved.
What temperature do you set your iron?
Hi Tammy, I set the iron on the linen setting.
