Suddenly realised I have a big grin on my face as I listen to Bob talk. This is the kind of thing the Internet should be for, allowing great stories like this to find an audience.
Bob is my grandpa! I’m so happy to see he’s able to share some of his incredible story and even more honored to be part of this history. Thank you for working with him!
Hi Shelbs! My kiddies loved watching Grandpa too. I think we're all a little sad that he sold the lawn kart. Fred kept saying that he'd touched this or that thing in the video.
Same here. Part of why I enjoyed visiting family back east, as a kid. Had an uncle who restored classic cars, great grandfather who was mechanic in both World Wars, tank on WWI, aircraft on WWII. I learned so much from them both. Also had a great, great aunt who traveled cross country as a child in a covered wagon, and came back by train. Used to listen to her talk about it for hours. Miss all three still, over 30 years later for 2, and 17 for my uncle. I learned leading, paint prep and body. Pinstriping and airbrushing from him as well. Next came mechanicals between them and dad.
@@kevinfox500about 20 years ago, i got to know a couple ole' guys alot like Bob. One raced sprint cars in the 60's & 70's, the other raced motorcycle dirt track & snowmobiles in the 50's & 60's. Not only your restoring the go karts, but now you’re restoring the entire company !!! That’s amazing, best of luck to you and your team with getting the business going once again !
Bob needs to put a book together about his life. From Airforce to a cart King and lot’s in between I’m sure. Glad that you youngins are going to keep his story and product going if that’s ur intentions, I’m sure that you will do well. Take care and stay safe
I absolutely loved this video. It brought back great memories. I'm 67 now, bought my first Kart when I was 12. I crashed it, got lacerated up with about 50 stiches to close me up and my Dad made me sell it. I bought one for my kids as soon as they could reach the pedals. Great times, lots of fun. I still have a brand new 5 hp Briggs that was to be the spare motor for the kids first Kart. I tried to buy back their chassis but the guy wouldn't sell it, even though his kids crashed it and it was no good to him. I will build another and with the inspiration from this video, sooner rather than later! Thanks Kevin
Bloody oath I enjoyed it, mate! Not only were you talking to one of the forgotten legends of the karting world, but you got several of Bob's Babies up and barrelling around like they hadn't done in 30+ years! I'd love to hear more about Bob's time as he built the company up and the development of the karts themselves....and why it just seemingly got shelved rather than the batten passed to the next gen. Glad you got to spend a fair bit of time with the old boy, because old-timers stories are gold....and when you get the business up and running again, I'm sure he'll be a regular visitor. Just make sure there's a spare chair in the workshop where he can watch or tinker as he feels like and I'm sure he'll be a happy chap. Had a huge grin watching the karts compete on the track, mate. It brought back many happy memories of 35+ years ago when I used to have a blast myself! I might struggle to fit behind the wheel nowadays as my chest has slipped a bit and now sits around my waist, but a slightly more articulated steering column and I'd be keen as mustard to wind one out to its max along the back straight and drift through the corners like I used to. All the best to you and the team....and NEVER write off a good keen girl when it comes to driving quickly and tidily. One of my daughters was showing great promise for some international competition until she decided to take up a totally different career. Epic video - thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Looking forward to more of the same.
Kevin, I have a blast watching your videos. I am a 66 year old woman, who knows NOTHING about cars, but, I get such a kick out of you and your friends. I laugh my fool head off when ever you all get together. Thanx and keep up the wonderful way you love life.
Kevin..listening to Bob...I raced a twin engine kart..Mine had two WestBend 820L engines..My class was Super C..early..mid 1960's..I feel like I may have raced with Bob at Watkins Glen..back in the day..Awesome video here!!!!
@Junkyarddigs thank you so much for giving us all the opportunity to hear from this absolute legend. It’s so great to hear his stories and I think including them instead of jumping straight to the wrenching was absolutely the right thing to do for you and your audience.
the race was hysterical, It kinda reminded me of the Grand Prix Grand Prix and all the shenanigans on that episode, that being said I really liked getting to know of Bob Combs and his stories, that's absolute Gold in my opinion, legends like that won't be around for much longer, thanks for saving what you can, look forward to seeing more of this venture.
This episode was just great! It brings back so many memories. I am about 50 yrs older than you guys, about Bobs age I had my first kart in 1960. It was an Ala-Kart with 2 Mac 6's. I ran it out here on the west coast on road race type tracks. It didn't last long as I was already a junior in high school then went on to college and then into the navy (1964-1968) by then I had gone into drag racing. But in 1979 I went to SCCA drivers school where I found that my go-cart experience helped me a lot. My second race at riverside international raceway I won for the first time, then finished second at Pheonix raceway. I finished 3rd in national points in my division. Later on I drove oval track stock cars and then winged modifieds and I like to think that my time in go-carts helped me in all that. 😎🏁
most dirt trackers start out as kart racers..i know many folks who are even in nascar now who started out in karts when they were little..it deffinately helps
I love watching you work on old cars, but I also love listening to an old-timer tell his stories about how he got to where he is. I recently purchased a 1976 Yamaha IT400 dirt bike from an older guy that used to race motocross in the 80's. I chatted with him for a few hours before we got around to me buying the bike from him. The bike is rough but it's in one piece for the most part and it runs. Originally I was going to try and haggle with him to see if I could get a better deal but when he showed me the extras that were included I was more than willing to pay him his full asking price. But by the time we got done talking and he saw that I really wanted to get the bike rideable he gave me a good deal all on his own. He showed me all of the messages he was getting from other people who were trying to offer him trades for just random stuff, I was pretty much the only one who offered him cash for it.
Every once in a while, an opportunity opens up and I feel this is yours - So far you've followed your heart and this is something that'll sell, and its American! Go for it with all your hearts! Oh and keep making these atmospheric videos - the farm is fun!
Bob is such a good guy and he’s a vet so coming from me and I’m a 4 time combat deployment vet, thank you Bob for your service. As for go karting my 14 y/o son and myself have built one in the past and we love to karting
Growing up in rural west Tn, Bob is exactly the type of person I would see at the county co-op when I went with my grandfather, honest as the day was long, and with a great story to share. Truly a local if not national treasure. Just like @chriswareham said, I too got a grin just listening to Bob. If you can share his story more. Absolutely wonderful watching you kids zip around your bean field track, laughing and smiling and spitting dirt with nothing but good times with good friends. Thanks to you Brian, and Mook, and the rest of your beloved misfits, I have relived a moment from my past, had a smile today, and hope for the future. Keep up content and the laughs.
Bob reminds me of my grandfather... He always had the best story's, years of history and knowledge. A true gentleman...a good man from back when men were men.
As much as i am a huge fan of all of your videos, Kevin, this one takes the cake. It brought me right back to being 13 and fighting my own fights with the ol' 5 horse briggs pulsa-jet. The hand throttle in the shop yard was literally me 20 years ago. Thank you, and bring on the go-kart videos.
What I like about your content is that it's really about having fun not only wrenching on anything that goes but especially having fun after it starts going.
Watching this brings me back to being 12 years old and absolutely hauling ass around my grandparents property in their two-seater 6.5 horse cart with a torque converter. That and the shenanigans involved in just running around a bigass dirt circle for a couple of hours with the buddies really brings the nostalgia trip to the forefront.
Loved hearing bob and his love for carting. On top of it being how he found his love of his life after the airforce. Love hearing older guys stories. History and a time we don’t live anymore

I really enjoyed this video. Seeing a group of friends having fun with Go-Karts, just like kids and the big smiles. Just pure fun, that every guy had when he was kid.
Karting will keep you young, and broke! I've been kart racing for 40+ years and not ready to stop. I can still hear the passion and love for it in Bob's voice. He is great!
14:25 Reminds me of the go-kart I had as a kid. Whenever I was done ripping it around, I'd lock up the brakes pulling into the garage and shut it off, upon which it would let out a huge fireball from the exhaust.
The absolute look of joy on ya'lls faces as you run those carts around your track is a beautiful thing. I hope this venture is successful for you continuing forward.
Great episode Kevin, it was fun to watch you and the gang having a blast on the karts. I was into kart racing for a while, more modern chassis though, and it was a good time.👌👍🇺🇸🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
That was great. You have some incredibly entertaining friends. From Bob, to the other Bob, to Ezra, and all the others I cant even remember, your friends are great.
This was so great! I had a big smile on my face when bob shared his cool stories. Called my dad up when I saw the twin engine go-kart and told him what our next build needs to be. We started talking about the fun times back when I was a kid mobbing our street with my go-kart all day long.
I would love to hear more about Bob and his stories. I think Bob will be grateful if you braought back BKS and i would love to see it! Love the vids and i hope you will continue bringing back old gems.
Wow! Bob Combs! A true Midwest Go Karting Legend! I raced Go-Karts from 1973 to 1978.....Great times at Utica, where Bob officiated, flagged, sold parts and raced too! The guy did everything!! His passion for the sport was unmatched. He helped out anyone who needed a hand. I never had much luck at Utica but, I always did well at the Street Races. I raced the Plano Street race, Ogelsby Street race, and won the Sheridan Street Race / Reed Lt. 1977. As a sign painter, I lettered a van for him as well.... The Racing World would be better place with more people like Bob Combs!
Bob is a class act you could hear the passion he had for carts when you guys were going around the track I was laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes great content
Wow! Gotta love Bob! What a national treasure he is! This makes me wanna go dig our Manko Dingo two seater out of the barn and get 'er going! Fun Vid, Kevin! A+++++
Bob is sharp he remembers his first date ❤ day and year i hardly remember my birthday 😂 absolutely love hearing the history from him you could see his eyes light up when talking about it all! ❤ Do it for Bob !
I always appreciate listening to older people who have done alot in there life. Great video .I also like old stores like that.u never know what u might find
I didn't mind the history at all, in fact it was very enjoyable hearing all that stuff. I've really found an appreciation for history and older people in the recent years and I'm glad we get to hear these stories and have it on video.
Bob! You are the Best! Loved hearing your “girls” in the background. (Best loved chickens on earth!). What fun and a great story of pure creativity, hard work and excellent ethics!

Absolutely 😊
These voices aren’t going to be around forever. Good to have a record of them
I love listening to old timers tell stories. It's fascinating life stories and sometimes important history. We're losing them with time.
Absolutely made for one of my all time favorite JYD videos
I knew it was probably breaking our talking to action ratio, but the world needs to hear this mans story!

This may be my favourite video in a while. So much fun to watch. Bill, is amazing. Can’t wait to hear more stories from him.
I love it. The old timers have so much knowledge and stories that need to be heard.
