I'm German, don't understand a word but still get wet eyes hearing this. Seems like the gods have kissed every celtish soul to let them create such beautiful music.
I couldn't agree more, Adam! Your sis has a gorgeous voice. Very very moving. And her Gaelic is impeccable. Well done, l'il lassie! I look forward to the release of your first EP!
...i've just watched KIm C on Celtic Connections 2020 (BBC Alba) and her voice bloew me away so i thought i'd look to see if there was any more here...wow -what a performance, what an amasing voice -what an amazing song...more please...
Crucán na bPáiste “The song is set during the famine in Ireland (1840s). People were dying so fast that they had to be buried in mass graves-the children included. But there was a special mass grave just for the little ones. That is what a ‘Crucán na bPáiste’ is (burial place of the children). In this song, a young mother grieves the fact she could do nothing to keep her dear little one from dying and wishes she had died as well. Now she vows to leave Ireland forever to the States to try and escape the bitter memories.” “One other aspect… this is a graveyard for unbaptised babies…died before being baptised….kept separate by the Catholic Church.” English translation The Children's Burial Ground My heart is broken My path is lonely My little treasure is lying down and I am sorely distressed It's the end of my world Because my little red haired girl is Laid in the children's burial ground She won't see again The dew on the grass Nor the snow in the glens of Maamtrasna Without sun on her face Without the sweet music of the birds But the cold clay in the children's burial ground. In the name of the Father And in the name of the Son And Oh, Mary who is full of grace, In the name of the Holy Spirit Don't leave me alive When my little angel's in the children's burial ground. There is sadness in the mountains And there is sorrow around Lough Mask I am wretched because she is not safe And as long as I live I shall not stand on the sod Of Ireland nor in the children's burial ground. In the name of the Father And in the name of the Son And Oh, Mary who is full of grace, In the name of the Holy Spirit Don't leave me alive When my little angel's in the children's burial ground. When my little angel is in the children's burial ground.
My heart is broken, my way is lonely My sweetheart is in bed and I am tormented It 's the end of my life, it' s my little red - haired girl Stretched in the Children 's Crucible She will never see the dew on the grass again Or the snow in the valleys of Maamtrasna No sun on her face, no sweet music of the birds But the cold clay in the Children 's Crucible In the name of the Father and in the name of the Son His Mother is full of grace In the name of the Holy Spirit do not leave me alive It 's my sleeve in Child' s Crucian The mountains are troubled, and the Mask is wretched I'm sorry not to be safe As long as I live I will not stand still Ireland or in the Children 's Crucible In the name of the Father and in the name of the Son His Mother is full of grace In the name of the Holy Spirit do not leave me alive It 's my sleeve in Child' s Crucian
Just heard her for the first time on Mark Radcliffe's radio 2 show. I know nothing of this genre, but I thought it was very moving. Impressive Gaelic too. I have an Irish mother from Kilkenny who can't speak a word!!
Kim Carnie, Just one with a beautiful Voice., Karen Nic Mathon, Misha Nic Phearson, Julie Fowlis, Linda Nic Leoid, Kathleen Nic Innes, Miread Stewart, Miread Nic Leoid , Miread Bennet, Megan Nic Enruag, Catherine Nic Fee, Ellen Nic Dhomhnaill , Mairi Nic Gillivray, MaireNi Shuilleabhain, some singers in Ireland, male singers in Both Eireen and Alba. Runrig Donnie Rosach and so many more!. More that enough reason for independence for our Culture, Art and Language, Scotland being trashed by another country, with no reason and little culture.
I wonder why 95% of the young Irish singers (and even speakers) butcher the Irish language while I've never heard *any* Scottish Gaelic singer who didn't sound like a native speaker... I'm so happy for Scottish Gaelic and so sad for Irish...
Kim has a beautiful voice. It is a lilt that make you weeks at the knees. That said, seeing her with Nicholas Sturgeon who Cordvid aside, is bankrupting Scotland. When will, I was born in the Highlands, realise that the Clans cannot be raised with the Claymore to hand. Time for Scots to take heed that Sturgeon is devastating arts and more importantly jobs. Her trade is non - musical, she was bit - part player at Drumchapel Law Centre and promoted her boss to think - tank the Scottish economy!? We know Kim you have talent but Sturgeon has no vocal cords.

Oh hi me too xD
This is where Kim excels - even though we don't understand the language of the song words, we feel the passion and meaning through Kim's voice.
WOW - breath taking and ENCHANTING!!

English translation
The Children's Burial Ground
My heart is broken
My path is lonely
My little treasure is lying down and I am sorely distressed
It's the end of my world
Because my little red haired girl is
Laid in the children's burial ground
She won't see again
The dew on the grass
Nor the snow in the glens of Maamtrasna
Without sun on her face
Without the sweet music of the birds
But the cold clay in the children's burial ground.
In the name of the Father
And in the name of the Son
And Oh, Mary who is full of grace,
In the name of the Holy Spirit
Don't leave me alive
When my little angel's in the children's burial ground.
There is sadness in the mountains
And there is sorrow around Lough Mask
I am wretched because she is not safe
And as long as I live
I shall not stand on the sod
Of Ireland nor in the children's burial ground.
In the name of the Father
And in the name of the Son
And Oh, Mary who is full of grace,
In the name of the Holy Spirit
Don't leave me alive
When my little angel's in the children's burial ground.
When my little angel is in the children's burial ground.
Absolutely beautiful!! :3

My heart is broken, my way is lonely
My sweetheart is in bed and I am tormented
It 's the end of my life, it' s my little red - haired girl
Stretched in the Children 's Crucible
She will never see the dew on the grass again
Or the snow in the valleys of Maamtrasna
No sun on her face, no sweet music of the birds
But the cold clay in the Children 's Crucible
In the name of the Father and in the name of the Son
His Mother is full of grace
In the name of the Holy Spirit do not leave me alive
It 's my sleeve in Child' s Crucian
The mountains are troubled, and the Mask is wretched
I'm sorry not to be safe
As long as I live I will not stand still
Ireland or in the Children 's Crucible
In the name of the Father and in the name of the Son
His Mother is full of grace
In the name of the Holy Spirit do not leave me alive
It 's my sleeve in Child' s Crucian

what the song name?
Crucan na bPaiste -- Graveyard of the Children
The song is sung in the voice of a woman who has just buried her infant daughter. The child died as a result of malnutrition during "An Gorta Mór" .
