Not sure how i missed out on "Armored Core" games out there. Going to have to check them games out! "Moto Cross Mania 2" is cool, but my favorite game with Moto in it is "Jet Moto" on the PS1. Namco on the PS1 came out swinging home runs with "Tekken 2" & "Soul Blade"! Another epic weapon game out there was, "Bushido Blade" where if you got hit in the arm that arm would just wiggle like a worm & be worthless. That was cool.
I'd still recommend you play Rayman 2: The Great Escape on the N64, Dreamcast, or PC. The PlayStation version isn't visually bad looking. However, the game was quite watered down.
While I was a Nintendo only guy, my friend down the street got a PS 1 when it first came out. I preferred spending approximately a year of my life on FF3 for the SNES, playing it over and over again, but my friend enjoyed kicking my butt in Tekken more.
5:00 - yeah, Goblet of Fire is where my enjoyment for Harry Potter games ended too. only i enjoyed them on Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance, with those ports being JRPGs instead of what they were on Console.
I've never really been a Tekken fan. It's funny, because I have an original Tekken 2 arcade pcb. I won an auction years ago for it for like $20, which I bid on because it came with a switching power supply and a Namco kick harness. I put it in one of my cabinets from time to time to see if it might grow on me one day, but no such luck as of yet.
The SNES and PS1 era of gaming will always have a special place in my heart because of the epic RPGs they had. FFIII(6) was the first RPG that was truly an epic story that made you feel emotions. SNES Zelda is a masterpiece. Super Metroid OMG so good. pS1 classics like RE games, FF games, Metal Gear Solid, Symphony of the Night, I could keep going. There is a reason why I still play PS1 and SNES games to this day on my MiSTer FPGA.
Armored Core was a big one for me. Played that one to death. And would be great to see that timeline video you talked about. Excellent video as always. Enjoyed the recent SNES video too. Well done
The story in Final Fantasy IX was much better then FFVIII. And totally agree with you and it going back to a more high fantasy style RPG then VII and VIII were. Though I am one of the many that like VII more then IX, but not by much.
If you've gotten used to my commenting on here and thought about me as you made this, you probably knew I would be especially happy to hear of Final Fantasy Chronicles since it contains IV, my absolute favorite Final Fantasy. IX is also quite good. I think if VII hadn't been so groundbreaking, IX would have gone down as the best on the system.
Yeah honestly I think clock tower and a few other horror games came before resident evil . Phantasmagoria , and games like bram strokers dracula came out in the late 1980s on the NES and super Nintendo . So they came before resident evil . Cause resident evil didn't come until 1997
i have 3 more nominations for this series, all Hidden Gems imo; 1) Legend of Legaia - JRPG that features doing button commands like you're playing Street Fighter. 2) Jade Cocoon - Genki's take on Pokemon, having a mature story and an interesting fusion mechanic. 3) Monster Rancher - can also be considered like Pokemon but more Management Sim with ARPG gameplay.
@@Fortefyre this is true, a novel concept in it's day to be sure. in fact Monster Rancher had special monsters that could only be found via special CDs
Final Fantasy 9. When it first came out my friend Dan and I played it for 24 hours straight. Most of that was Chocobo Hot and Cold. I learned about a super secret side quest in 2013 that means I never even got close to completing it. ( just that, Excalibur 2, jump rope and the racing game left.) And Tetra Master is still too random for my taste.
Kind of surprised Legend of Dragoon wasnt on the list. Yea the combat is monotonous because the damage done is set. But the addition system and story were pretty great. Definitely deserves a prequel spin off or a remaster/remake. My only main complaint in the game is the difficulty in unlocking the optional boss, and the really weird difficulty ramps that seemed to disappear just as fast.
@Fortefyre lol. Honestly don't blame you. There is a ton of empty space that could have done so much. When I replayed it last, I put it down maybe a dozen times.
I'm not sure if you mentioned Einhander and Thunder Force V in parts 1 or 2. If not, you need to have a part 4 and mention those bad boys. Both are great games.
@@Fortefyre You haven't played Thunder Force V and Einhander?! Well, maybe that is a good thing because you are in for a treat. I wish I could go back in time and play those 2 games again for the first time.
I loved the retranslation of FFIV and getting the challenge that we missed out on for the first time. But Chrono Trigger suffered the same issues as the Final Fantasy Anthology games did. Sloooooowwwwww load times, gameplay lag, and lower sound quality.
@@Fortefyre I was in college when I first saw a PS2. I remember when Vice City came out and how we all gathered into someone’s room around a 20” crtTV to experience the glory of that game.
That was a time to be alive lmao. I remember having a small tv myself and thinking I had "surround sound" because I used a splitter on some shitty computer speakers and had it mounted to the wall lmao.
In my opinion, SoulBlade is the greatest fighting game of all time. I didn't like the sequels half as much as the original. The story telling was phenomenal and the fighting mechanics were so smooth. The reason it was renamed "soulblade" instead of "souledge" is actually because a copyright issue around the word "edge". As stupid as it sounds, it gets even dumber when you look into it.
The reason Soul Edge was renamed Soul Blade on PS1 and Soul Calibour on Dreamcast is really really really stupid. Basicly the head of a studio decided to rename his gaming company that put out very averge games and called it The Edge. Then he filled a pattern on the word "Edge" in regards to video games. This guy thought he was a god that could bully companies into changing their game titles because he owned the word edge. The main problem was that noone ever challenged him. So he kept getting away with it. Until he bit of more than he could chew by trying to sue EA when they released Mirros Edge. EA tore this guy a new one making sure everyone knew that having a company with a generic name doesn't mean you own this generic word. The pattent could only be used if a gamestudio would name itself "edge" and I mean only "EDGE" if you wanna create a studio and call it Curved Edge you can do that. Afterwards the guy was forced to admit that he couldn't own the word edge which made him so depressed he left gaming and became a priest.

It took a long time for me to get into tekken. I was a street fighter kid through and through
Mega Man Legends 1 and 2 were fun on PS1. They were both fun but could by tough in points.
I actually rented Megaman 64 as a kid!

I feel the same way, I don't HATE VII, but I don't subscribe to the hype for it lol.
The boost meter confusion was hilarious. I believe I asked if it was a rectal thermometer 😂
Might as well have been, because this ass was on fire lmao.

I completely agree! I will say that the music alone accompanied IX so well, the story felt natural and real.

I tend to avoid all the extra stuff in lieu of beating the core story, but I've heard it's a fiend to do all the extra stuff, especially Excalibur 2.

Soul Edge or Sound Edge :P
