I gotta say there are few VIP devices I get truly excited about but this one I feel will really really allow me to read physical books again. Outside of seeing people’s facial expressions reading physical books is what I miss most. I’m obsessed with solving that and I think this does it. Been finding these newer devices more useful than I remember just a few years ago.
I too was looking for one device that did everything because I homeschool and I have to do everything from use a traditional CCTV that I can write under or watch my children right under two reading expensive parent manuals with lesson plans it’s a lot of reading it’s a lot of heavy lifting I feel like this device might be a good interim one for carrying around I’m hoping it’s not too expensive however if you were looking for something that’s just dedicated to reading books I would go for the or cam
I couldn't agree more. What I like about this device is it's size and the additional wearable device. I prefer smaller magnifiers rather than 7-10 inches ones. I also hope that I can use the wearable and read a physical book holding it in my hands. I've never had a wearable device as they are so expensive. OCR is a great option too, but even if it's for a short time I would love to read a book without it like in the good old days:)
I was looking for a device for one of my family who has visual disabilities, and this review was very helpful! Thank you very much, this definitely clarified some questions I had about it.
Great review. Thanks for showing the device from different angles, sometimes photos don't show enough of the design and for someone like myself that used a few of those devices it's important to see it up close as I know what I liked or disliked when using other magnifiers. I love the size, OCR and the additional wearable goggles. Not sure if I ever needed to use the stand but probably for others it can be a great addition. I also love the fact that it can read in many languages as I use two languages on daily basis. I hope I'll be able to buy this device this year.
Great to see the handheld market get more OCR devices. Are there others that you're aware of? I'm in the in between where OCR makes more sense most of the time.
For reading signs (ie street signs, bus numbers) or taking a picture of presentations in a class (smartboard, dry erase board etc.), does this work for that? If not, are there other very compact options to investigate?
I love all the gadgets! I'm hoping to get an Orcam soon, but this is really cool too. I still teach math and seeing the book is impossible. I tried other readers, but the books are big and don't fit. By the way, I have an idea for another shirt you can make- in braille and words- I can still HEAR you!
Nice magnifier: Miracast, custom color schemes, Multitouch, TTS OCR with multiple languages (does it recognises languages automatically or TTS engine has to be switched manually every time?) Just the price worries me and how's battery life? Sadly Google and Smart TV manufacturers started to removing Miracast few years ago and replaced it with Chromecast. It's different tech protocol. Miracast was able to work offline was used on older Smart TVs and older Android devices. Google removed it to sell Chromecast devices and online services. If you find a device maybe a HDMI dongle/adapter that would again allow you to in this way "add" a Miracast to your Samsung Smart TV it would work. Or buy other very old SmartTV who still has native Miracast support and not Chromecast.
Don't know if this t-shirt is copyrighted, but Herb Cane (SF man about town in '70's spotted a cane carrying blind guy with a t-shirt that read:"TOO MUCH SEX WILL MAKE YOU BLIND". This made it into his daily all about town column..
Sam can you stow the goggles and the scan tray table into the pack pack with all ofcthe other accessory itemscthats included that you showed during your review of the item? Thanks Anthony R Paolucci Jr
I am very impressed with these videos they do a great job with the video production also I think you do a fairly good job with the reviews sometimes I might like to see a little bit more in depth about some of the technical features I’m very surprised the company didn’t put in a port where you could physically connected to a TV using a display port or an HDMI that would’ve made this device a lock for me I am a homeschooler and I need to do everything from reading lesson plans which is some heavy lifting when it comes to reading believe me I think my one parent manual is 500 pages long and I need to also be able to see my children’s handwriting and their worksheets I need a device that does it all I am still in the process of purchasing devices and I think that I will need to buy three to do everything I need to do if you have any insight on a device that does do everything I would really appreciate a suggestion I must have a device which plugs into a monitor because most screens are far too small for me to say
Love the demonstration!!! Sam, you are a wonder! I was just wondering, does the speech work with the goggles? Overall, I am very impressed with this product! I would buy it although, I am a person with no vision. I am impressed with the speech! By the way, I loved the reference to the 80s cartoon transformers!👍👍👍👍👍🤜🏽
Yes and no. Your phone can do all of these things but a device like this that is built specifically for this purpose will be able to do it better. Also it has a larger screen and built-in stand which you can’t get with a phone by itself. However, you can definitely save some money by just using your phone.

Thank you for the thorough review!
Hartelijk dank voor de duidelijke uitleg!

Thanks Sam. I don't think they could have come up with more fu ctionality or accessories if they wanted to. It's quite impressive!
The Contact 6 comes in handy that's nice that they have that
Great video! very informative. thanks.

Very good device for low vision patient

Great video and great tutorial on these optelec products! These are fantastic solutions for the V.I. community.
Excellent job my friend!
Excellent review Sam. Thanks.
I read somewhere that Optelec does not make this device anymore, is that correct?

That’s great!
I need a recommend. Could you help me ?
They should have called it the James Bond model. Wow!

Do Iptelec and other magnifies emit blue light?

Yes you can, however, you would need to rearrange the pockets inside to accommodate the scanning tray.

You could look at the compact 10, it may have the features you’re looking for.

Hey Kenny, I’ve already sent the device back so can’t confirm the OCR while wearing the goggles but I believe it did work.
Sam, thanks for the information! I appreciate it. Hope to talk to you soon!
🔎 Thank You!
You're welcome!
What is the cost
Can't you just use your phone to do everything that this device does?...
I use my phones camera 📷 to see distant things.
