  • Damaged hair-cells does can sometimes trigger tinnitus but does not mean permanent damage. Tinnitus is very changeable and can get better, even if there are damaged hair cells. Please do not get hung up over physical damage. Tinnitus is a present time physiological experience that is very changeable.

    you have helped me calm down. last week I got humming in my left ear then I felt very panicked couldn't breath so I went to the hospital and I have iron deficiency Anemia and B12 deficiency I'm not sure if the anxiety I feel is from the lack of iron or B12 or all the above. I went to a hearing specialist today and he said I have significant hearing loss in my left ear and the tinnitus is the result and like everyone says it's permanent. I made an appointment to see a hearing /tinnitus specialist Thursday I've changed all my eating habits and trying your advice being calm etc. I suppose a cranial specialist is the next step? any advice would be great. I've only had it for a week but I need some guidance..thank you for all these videos I've watched many of them you give people hope. much thanks :) Greg.

    You've given me so much hope, Julian. I've read that the brain causes tinnitus and because of neuroplasticity it can be modified.

    Thanks for the videos Julian. Your videos have been a huge encouragement to me. You're so positive and uplifting, and I'm encouraged. I likely got my tinnitus from 'hair cell damage' after attending a concert.I lacked the common sense to walk out of the event, despite feeling pain in my ears during the show. Anyway, the tinnitus came several days after the show (and after about 2 months of rather acute, intense anxiety), so it's hard to know the exact cause. I freaked for the first month, but after meeting some folks with tinnitus, and finding your videos (and staying off of tinnitus forums that are mostly negative!), I'm feeling much optimistic. Thanks so much for freely sharing the videos. I live in the States, so If you have a recommendations for a craniosacral therapist in Chicago, please let me know. Thanks so much.

    This morning I experienced no tinnitus for about 10 seconds when I woke up. It was clear and wonderful. In fact, maybe it only came back because I was listening for it so intently? Either way, the fact that it wasn't there means it can be changed. Feeling much more positive.

      Great. Now you know it is only temporary. Focus on settling your system rather than the tinnitus and you are bound to get better. You can practice these techniques to help it back off. ua-cam.com/play/PLxZrSQ0Jpqb_9uOg82RORVw-HLKGnBtmu.html

      When I wake up at night or in the morning my tinnitus is quite for a couple if seconds too. It's wonderful. My idea is that the brain needs a couple of seconds to really wake up. So it's a brain thing...
      Wish I could prolong it though.

      I had candidiasis, a yeast infection after far too many antibiotics. I used to eat far too much sugar, cheese, wine, mushrooms, bread, and other yeasty fermented foods. So I went on a candida diet which I found very hard but life changing. My minimal tinnitus plateau fell away into silence. That's when I became a non-tinnitus person again. For people with candida this diet can be really helpful for tinnitus.
      For non-candida people having a good healthy diet is definitely going to help your body have more energy, less resistance and able to drop into well-being more. Generally too much salt, sugar, tea, coffee, chocolate and alcohol are not helpful. But please don't suddenly give them up all at once. Gently easing back on them is more useful than sudden changes.
      I have also had clients that have had amazing results with the Horizon Diet where you do a semi-fast. Watch the BBC documentary on BBC I-player or on You Tube, also known as the 5:2 diet where you have just one meal two days a week. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01lxyzc/horizon-20122013-3-eat-fast-and-live-longer

    • @JollyGoblin666
      @JollyGoblin666 5 років тому

      My tinnitus is caused by neck tension and tense shoulders. In my opinion, doing yoga helps a lot. It has done wonders for me. Generally trying to shift your focus to other things is really helpful too. When I'm stressed out, my tinnitus gets worse. So avoiding stress is important. And avoiding caffeine helps too. Getting massages regularly and doing easy upper-body workouts help too.
      Also, my tinnitus usually sounds like crickets and if I'm having a bad night and I can't sleep well, I can just pretend that there are actual crickets and I'm at some exotic vacation spot with a window open.

    • @JulianCowanHill
      @JulianCowanHill  2 роки тому +1

      Yes sound therapy can be very helpful. I also think listening to the radio or to calming music or sounds at a low level can be very helpful too. The benefit of this is that it normalises your life, takes your mind off the ringing and gets your mind to focus on something positive, soothing or interesting to listen to. When you watch a good film, instead of focusing on how you are hearing your focus shifts onto an interesting dialogue or story. This helps focus your hearing.

    Hi Mr.Hill. Even with noise induced hearing loss can people recover from tinnutis? I watched your videos and the answer seems that you can habituate or recover. I guess I need to hear the answer directly so I can self soothe. I sustained a 4000 hz. loss up to 60 dB after a Rock concert in my right ear. Doctors said it’s not hearing aid worthy as I can still hear pretty well. However the tinnutis is like a high pitch static in the back of my head that seems to be stem from that ear. Thanks again for all your videos!

    • @JulianCowanHill
      @JulianCowanHill  5 років тому +5

      Yes. Once the hearing system has reset itself and got used to things, the residual tinnitus can still settle and quieten down again.

    @12345hooray 8 років тому

    Hello Julian,
    Hope you're well. You more or less answered my question in this video but would still be extremely grateful for some reiteration. I am 24 years old and I first started experiencing my long term tinnitus at the age of 18 due to naively listening to loud music through earphones all the time. I ended up with quite severe tinnitus for 6 years and then I started to notice a change, as if my consciousness was becoming increasingly more switched off to my tinnitus. it wasn't as aggressive, sometimes I wouldn't even notice I had tinnitus. I stupidly started to become cocky and tried living a carefree lifestyle again and would go to loud bars with friends and play my music loudly in the belief that I had been given this second chance and that if I do all of these things in moderation it would be fine. I was wrong and I am extremely embarrassed admitting all of this. My question is, now I have stupidly mistreated my ears again and aggravated the tinnitus after my tinnitus had dramatically subsided, will I ever be able to get back to a stage where it will calm down again?

    • @JulianCowanHill
      @JulianCowanHill  8 років тому +1

      Yes but you need to do a bit of work on yourself. Its not good to expose your ears to loud sound ever. So please get ear protection if need be or avoid dangerously loud places. In the meantime have craniosacral therapy to help your system settle. This can be very helpful. Also I recommend taking up yoga or tai chi so that you can distract your attention away from the tinnitus and help yourself settle too.

      Think of all tinnitus as a layer of activation in the nervous system Cranial work goes in and helps settle this. Body-based focussing helps refocus the attention off the tinnitus and helps settle the system and the activation too. So you ototoxic tinnitus can back off too.

      I don't know. I'm not qualified to comment on medication. Best to ask your doctor. I know that sometimes medication can be very helpful for taking the edge off for a temporary period of time. Building up healthy body-based practice can do this too. So when we come off medication with the guidance from our doctor, it can be very helpful to build up a body-based practice to wean oneself off from one to the other.

    • @JulianCowanHill
      @JulianCowanHill  6 років тому +2

      If you are hard of hearing a hearing aid can stop your ears straining to listen out. When we strain to hear then this ramps up our internal auditory sensitivity which, in turn, can cause us to listen to the buzz of our nervous system more. But equally, if we settle and relax, all of this can pipe right down. It all comes back to how comfortable you are and how safe you feel and how much you need to listen out...

      Hearing aides actually made my head buzz more. When I took them off, it felt like had headphones on too loud. Mr. Hill nails it when he said you have to retrain, get use to it, and most of all be calm. I still participate in my rock band and go to concerts, but I have very expensive ear plugs I purchased so I can still enjoy these activities and not have a buzzing head after.....My tinnitus comes and goes. I actually miss it when it's not there believe it or not. I also believe my allergies have a lot to do with my ears ringing. Sometimes a Benadryl at bed time makes it stop completely. But I wear my earplugs when ever I think there is going to be loud noise. I have different size filters for different levels of noise.

      Bob johnson practice yoga it’ll settle to a very low volume or fade away completely ... yoga shud be done under guru’s guidance first then u can practice by your own..also cut down caffeine, MSG, sugar and you’ll see much improvement combining body based practice with proper diet...last but not least ...patience...hope that helps

    First of all, thank you very much for your videos. They are an inspiration and gave me hope. I only got the tinnitus about two and a half months ago. It is a very dim(low) high pitch though, it is not as loud as the samples I heard in some videos.
    You mentioned loud noise from the speaker damaged the "hair cell" which triggered your tinnitus. If your tinnitus is triggered by stress, depression, anxiety and over work (which I think is the cause of my tinnitus). Does that mean that somehow my "hair cells" are also damaged regardless of what caused my tinnitus ?
    If the "hair cells" are not damaged, I'm wondering if the tinnitus will go away completely.

      @@chabisharma9312 It is somewhat the same. It is a little worse when there is more stress in my life. But I try very hard to get a decent sleep when I can instead of going out and also on weekend. Reduce my weights training to reduce stress on the body and work on aerobic. Sleep is important I think. It is when your body restores and repairs itself to maintain it in good healthy condition. I do the majority of my own cooking with healthy foods and veggies.
