My goodness yeah, this scene brokers my heart, but is Mileven, Mike scream and cry for El :'c This is beautiful and sad idk But its a so good acting for Finn
This scene doesn't get talked about enough. That was literally an entire year of built up angry and sadness taking out on Hopper's ribs. Finn and David did a great job too. It was so sad to see Mike breakdown and see Hopper realize how bad he messed up. I think this definitely leads into the car scene with El and Hopper, which is my favorite scene of the season.
I love how Hopper handles Mike as an adult, all the while comforting him as a father figure. He knows that Mike is the most upset of El's friends, and he pulls him over to talk privately and discuss the situation, but doesn't give a lecture to him; then reads the room immediately when he sees Mike being overwhelmed by his emotions, and gives him a loving embrace. Hopper is often portrayed as the macho boomer type who gets distant from his emotions (as showing them is not manly), only to surprises us with his emotional intellect. Great writing, great acting.
Actually, he hasn't really shown the "macho boomer type" personality. Quite the opposite really. He's been incredibly dialled in to his surroundings since things in Hawkins went awry, especially in supporting Joyce and the kids since season 1. He was there to resuscitate Will and show Joyce what to do while she was crying in panic. He is the calming centre of the show. He's the only one in Hawkins who has to be en guard for the town because the police force and newspaper are clueless. He brings stability when there is chaos. He doesn't get to show his emotions that much because the circumstances do not allow him to, but he is very much compassionate and empathetic toward those struggling in his town.

Same. This was easily my favorite scene and imo probably the best acted. My heart was breaking and the only thing on my mind was "that is genuine love right there" forgetting that they are actors and not actually the characters
A whole minute of them snarling and yelling at each other, and it turns into one of the greatest hugs in the series... Incredible writing and acting by all involved!
It’s like The Duffers just forgot about this scene in season 3, because there was absolutely no kind of relationship between Mike and Hopper, and Hopper absolutely disliked Mike. I mean it’s a tragedy, I was hoping Hopper would turn into some kind of father figure to Mike because Mike absolutely needs one(or a decent one at least) 😩😫
right! like hopper just hates mike’s guts. they just pretend this scene didn’t happen. you’d think some type of understanding or bond would happen after they hugged it out but it was all just kinda forgotten. it’s a shame, i think mike and hop’s relationship could be really cute if mike would respect hopper more, and if hopper didn’t hate mike. hopper could be the father figure mike never had, because let’s be real, ted ain’t shit, as a dad or a husband lmao
Well, Hopper did become Eleven's dad and I guess that dad's are really protective of their daughters boyfriends. Plus, Mike had a bit of an attitude when it came to Hopper, so I think that's maybe why Hopper doesn't like Mike very much in season 3. He's probably just protecting El in his own way
Whitney, If Hopper became Mike's father figure that wouldn't fit in the whole aspect of season 3, where Mike and hopper have this Dating his daughter type relationship, it would be weird if Hopper became the father figure for both of them it would be like they are brother and sister
@@haileyturner8219 Really good points! But an important aspect to remember is that the reason Hopper struggled with Mike so much is because Mike had been spending every day with Eleven for six months straight, leaving hardly any time for Hopper to actually spend some father daughter time with El himself. Especially because El was already 15 then, and she was growing up, that's the deeper reason for why he was so resentful. On a second note I feel like everyone just forgot about that short moment in The Battle Of Starcourt episode at the end of season 3 where Hop has a small scene where before the kids leave the mall he says "Mike... Be careful," showing that he really cares, and even with his resentment, he gets over his personal issues to show affection even if it's in a small portion, which is some nice character development from when the season started! Remember what season 3 was about, season 3 is the season of change, hence the tagline in the marketing of the season being "one summer can change everything," and it's brought up in Hopper's letter in the finale. He struggles with mike because he's losing the chance to be with his newfound daughter before she grows up, thats why he brings up how distant they've been in his letter. But yeah, all the more a reason to love this show, these characters are absolutely amazing, every single one of them are so real and have such profound writing! Sorry for my essay long answer btw 😂
The fact that Hopper's instinctive response was to comfort Mike is a testament to how much he really cares. We all know Hopper is the father of Hawkins and Steve is the mother!
My wig flew watching this scene, it brought me to tears how Finn put so much emotion into it that it seems so real. He's such a good actor and I can't wait to see what he does in the future with his career. I love the cast so much they are all so talented.
I love this scene. The way he holds him soo tight at the end, when mike is crying and is so upset, he really loves eleven. They are both incredible actors too. I just love this scene.
This is the Hopper I felt was missing in Season 3. Gruff and irritable but still reasonable and relatively low key. Season 3 cranked him to 11 and left him there. :/
I feel like they kinda forgot that while hopper was extremely tough and strict, he still had sensitivity and understanding. I just didn’t see that is S3 hopper, I get it’d be annoying to see ur daughter making out with her bf 24/7, but the fact he went to those lengths to break them up without recognizing how much they mean to each other is just jarring.
I won't get tired of watching this scene again and again. Rewatching it is painful but I I still love this scene because of the feeling it's making me feel. It is so full of emotions. I can almost feel the anger, disappointment, and grief Mike was feeling. It's hard to explain but I just love this scene so much.
ok but the way he just kinda dissolves into tears and hopper just takes him into his arms and h u g s him- which we only really see happen with his mum ,, and never his dad- breaks my heart i-
I loved this scene so much, for a year Mike tried to hide his feelings. He seemed to have sort of closed his friends off and was never really in a good mood. He trusted Hopper, and this is the moment he found out one of the people who he could trust the most had kept El away from him for a year. Mike yelling at Hopper and punching him, then breaking down into tears while Hopper hugged him was so beautiful. I also love that once Hopper realized how hurt Mike was by this, he stopped yelling at him and conforted him and made sure he was ok. I wish in season 3 Hopper had better understood why Mike was always with El, he should’ve learned from this scene that Mike loved her and was scared of losing her. I didn’t like how Hopper tried to separate Mike from El.
i completely lost it at this scene. although he’s an actor, you can hear the pain in finn’s cry. hopper was there to comfort him even though mike was pissed off and that is one of the best things about him.
After watching the ending of season 4, and seeing the newer hug between Mike and Hopper, it really shows how much they’ve grown as characters and how they have treated each other better since.
0:42 is where mike totally lost his shit but on another note i felt so bad for mike because he really loved el and finding out that hopper had been hiding her that entire time must have felt really bad because hopper didn’t trust him enough to tell him when he was technically the one who found her and who helped her out when she was scared and lost and alonez
@@helloeveryone1057 It seems like the Duffers likes to focus on more popular characters and unfortunately Mike is not one of them, I hope that change in the next season considering it is the last. The most frustrating part to me though is that people think Finn is the weakest actor of the cast while we know is the constant weak material Finn keeps getting
lol now mike just hides everything he feels and acts like an absolute numbskull (hes my favorite character lol, not hate, i think what makes him such a great character is his crazy personality that changes from season to season, and the way the portray him as a kid with imperfections)
Watching this scene over, I realize this is about male role models. Mike is rightfully frustrated and Hopper treats him like an adult. Unless you know, Hopper taught Mike not to use violence in that moment. Mike quite literally thought El was dead, the frustration and desperation led to physical outburst but Hopper showed him otherwise by talking to him like an adult and embracing his emotions.
Mike and Hopper’s rocky relationship is one I don’t think is talked about enough. They both dislike one another but also deeply care about the other because Eleven loves them both and they both end up respecting the other because of it and how much each does for Eleven. In the end of Season 4 they’ve put both their differences aside and are just happy to see one another and it’s kinda really sweet, now Mike has matured and realizes Hopper was protecting both eleven AND him and Hopper knows Mike is a good kid. It’s just, so nice. I love the character writing and the performances so much. Excellent stuff from an excellent show
I honestly don't think mike and hopper ever truly hated each other. They were jealous of each other and battling over Els time. But now are realizing they both mean different things to her and she needs them both in different ways.
I love this scene so much. Mike has spent the last year thinking Eleven was dead and grieving for her and what he could’ve done differently. And then to finally find out she’s been alive and in Hawkins this whole time, and that it was Hopper who kept her safe and hidden for all that time. It’s no wonder Mike was upset. And the fact that Hopper realized that and decided to treat him as an adult and tell him the truth rather than treat him like a child shows that Hopper understood just how much this hurt Mike. And when Mike decides to rail on Hop, telling him to stop but then embraces Mike while he screams and cries, I almost look at Hop as the father figure of all of these kids.
i’m coming back to watch this after finishing season 3 and its crazy to watch the development of their relationship. Where Hopper can’t stand Mike but then he says “Mike.. be careful”
notice how mike screamed "liar liar liar" over and over because of how badly he needed to see el, and will screamed, "he's lying he's lying" because the mind flayer inside him was desperate not to be found. both are desperate.
This scene hits hard cause you feel bad for both of them. Hopper, already struggling with El angry with him and nobody understanding why he hid El from them, and Mike getting mad that El was alive the whole time and Hopper kept them apart which caused Mike to become depressed and have a very hard time for almost a year
I think this scene was the moment everyone realized what an amazing actor Finn is. He went from just little kid actor to actually showing he has some serious acting skills
I remember when I first watched this scene crying for the first time in months because I wished I had someone just like hopper whose arms I could just fall into and cry. This scene was the only part of the whole series I cried. I came back to see if I could again but it’s not the same as the first time I watched it.
Mike... Omg... This scene makes me cry every time I watch it. I ship Mileven so much! When Mike/Finn ever cries, I swear my life ends because it’s so depressing. I love Mike so much, but I just love Finn as a person.☺️😍
You don’t know how many times I’ve watched this video. This is literally my comfort scene because I can literally feel that hug. Even though I don’t get hugs like that when I’m that upset I can feel it. I need someone to hug me like that.
Ya like mike was sooo sad I bawled my eyes out when this scene happened cuz mike just missed her and hopper was hiding her when he thought that his very first love was dead like ik it was what's best fer el but mike never gave up and ya it's just so sad and it's just a lot fer him 😭😭💜
The thing I like about this is that Hopper takes his hits and doesn’t hurt Mike because Hopper is a real man knows Mike was devastated at the thought that he lost El.
God, this scene tears my heart out every time. Mike‘a screaming anger gradually subsiding into just pure sadness and tears is so gut-wrenching to watch.
Ironic how Mike only gets to spend 6 months seeing El and then Hopper stops it immediately, then they broke up. Hopper just hated Mikes guts considering he didn’t even know El until the beginning of the season

lol now mike just hides everything he feels and acts like an absolute numbskull (hes my favorite character lol, not hate, i think what makes him such a great character is his crazy personality that changes from season to season, and the way the portray him as a kid with imperfections)
@@aphantasy Yeah mike hides who he is...... but next season Him and Hopper should bond with each other
His squeaky voice is so cute
I loved this scene. It was just soo good.
I feel for Mike man. This right here was 353 Days of built up Sadness, Frustration & Anger that he let out towards Hopper in this scene.
Where Hopper can’t stand Mike but then he says “Mike.. be careful”
Now this is what you call great acting 🥺❤️
Why does no one talk about this scene it's so sad, so amazing and so we'll played. It deserves more love
You can see how angry Mike is because he loves 011 and he missed her so much and he was just full of emoting poor soul
I don't know is it sheriff hugging Mike or Mike's squeaky voice that's giving me chills-
notice how mike screamed "liar liar liar" over and over because of how badly he needed to see el, and will screamed, "he's lying he's lying" because the mind flayer inside him was desperate not to be found. both are desperate.
it breaks my heart seeing Mike sad even if it’s just acting 🥺
Hands down the best series ever made..
Omg his little squeal when he cried made me cry💔
the fact that he tried to beat up a cop for her is ✨true love✨
I remember when I first watched this scene crying for the first time in months because I wished I had someone just like hopper whose arms I could just fall into and cry. This scene was the only part of the whole series I cried. I came back to see if I could again but it’s not the same as the first time I watched it.
The squeaky cry at the end tears my heart open every time 😭😭
This is seriously heartbreaking him having a breakdown and crying his eyes out can be really hard to achieve for some actors, good job fin 🙌🏽❤️
Mike... Omg... This scene makes me cry every time I watch it. I ship Mileven so much! When Mike/Finn ever cries, I swear my life ends because it’s so depressing. I love Mike so much, but I just love Finn as a person.☺️😍
This scene always makes me super emotional
You don’t know how many times I’ve watched this video. This is literally my comfort scene because I can literally feel that hug. Even though I don’t get hugs like that when I’m that upset I can feel it. I need someone to hug me like that.
S A M E
He really loved her here .. this is the real Mike.. he’s really wierd in season 4 towards El
this just shows how much hopper cares for mike and the kids
The way he grabbed Mike and said, "Let's talk, alone" and kinda pushed him looked and sounded like abuse
You can see how much Mike genuinely cared for Eleven
Omg when he started punching i said ooooh baby getting mad up here but when he started saying liar and his voice breaking up i said awwww
Ya like mike was sooo sad I bawled my eyes out when this scene happened cuz mike just missed her and hopper was hiding her when he thought that his very first love was dead like ik it was what's best fer el but mike never gave up and ya it's just so sad and it's just a lot fer him 😭😭💜
The thing I like about this is that Hopper takes his hits and doesn’t hurt Mike because Hopper is a real man knows Mike was devastated at the thought that he lost El.
well i would hope he wouldn’t hurt mike
why do i keep replaying im already crying
strangish MEEEEEE
And that one dislike is from the demodog eleven killed XD
this scene gets me so emotional, I mean the way Hopper is holding Mike until he changes from being angry to just being sad.. omggg such well acting
Finn and David are seriously some of the best actors I’ve even seen❤️❤️
love how finn is so violent in this clip
love love love,
I like how mikes eye stretched back when they hugged😂
The ending killed me when he just sort of cried
OMFG I LOVEEEE THISSS SCENEEEE AHAHHAHAHAHHAH SAMI!!!
KMS I Don’t, I don’t even watch the show 😂😂😂🙆
Aiesha Begum why not
If you don't watch this then why are you taking the time to click on this video and comment?
sami 2808 lol I didn’t even notice people replied 😂😂😂😂😭😭😭😭
I like how hopper is a dad to all the characters
Hopper is the MVP of series
ik im hella late, but it was soo sweet that he was just punching and being angry and then he just started crying and it turned in to a hug 😭💞
Hopper went from a police officer to a family member to the kids real quick
Both of the actors did a amazing job
Mike: (Anakin) You will not take her from me!
God, this scene tears my heart out every time. Mike‘a screaming anger gradually subsiding into just pure sadness and tears is so gut-wrenching to watch.
Man, this is so sad. When hopper hugged mike, shivers down the spinal region.
Ironic how Mike only gets to spend 6 months seeing El and then Hopper stops it immediately, then they broke up. Hopper just hated Mikes guts considering he didn’t even know El until the beginning of the season
When I first watched that scene, I was like " why when they hugged pulled his eye like that?" but mike and eleven are so in love💗rip hopper
Finn and David were phenomenal in this scene!
MIKE WOULD NEVER BLAME ELEVEN FOR ANYTHING!
This is like one of my most favourite scenes
