Outerwilds REALLY needed to be on this list, its my favorite game of all time and is the only piece of entertainment that made me cry with joy
In a way, I've been putting off playing this game precisely because I'm *so* excited to experience it. Because I know I can only experience it for the first time once. I know from past narrative adventure games how much I enjoy that kind of experience, another notable game from this past decade is Obduction from Cyan Worlds. It was extremely anticipated for me because of how impactful their earlier games, particularly Riven, were to me. I've played through it a few times, but the first time, as I actually pieced together the full story, absolutely blew my mind. I know those games aren't for everyone, but I get the overwhelming impression that Outer Wilds will hit at least as hard for me. It's like I'm waiting for a special occasion or something, but maybe that'll just be playing the game itself. Cheers for the reminder to play it!
@@0v_x0 as a big fan of all the myst games outer wilds is a must, just be careful not to get any spoilers, it's best experienced blind
List is sussssss
Assassins Creed Black Flag has a really good standalone story, the stuff outside of the Animus can get boring but they are quick, but the story within is one of my favorite AC games, it’s it’s 10 year anniversary
Bro facts 🔥definitely the best one
Probably the best story game I've played recently was Spec ops The Line. In the beginning its nothing more then a gears of war style three man arm generic shooter, but slowly it turns into almost a mental fight for survival. Its a genuine masterpiece that is loved by everyone who has played it. It's a actual travesty that the game was not a success as launch. It now has a cult following and it rightfully deserves it.
SOMA has to be a "best story" discussion every time.
SOMA is an amazingly game. I’m struggling to find a game like it. The amnesia games, outlast, etc are great but the story is what made soma almost perfect for me
Life is strange 2015, firewatch and what remains of edith finch were actually the best story driven games. You should play them.
Too bad you didn’t include alien isolation. I personally found it had a great story since it was simple yet had nice intricate details.
Yakuza 8 will hopefully join this list in 3 weeks
"Back in the 90s storytelling in video games was still really primitive" The 90s ended with Planescape: Torment, famously one of the greatest stories ever told in a video game. Maybe I've misunderstood the statement but it feels like storytelling hasn't really improved since then.
Ghost wire was so good, I loved it and I hope it continues as a franchise. Such a fun game.
I wish I would have seen the Plague tale series on here, both had absolutely amazing stories and gameplay and oh wth stray was also fiire!!
Where is the last of us? Game was so good they made it into a (great) tv show.
Especially Part 2
2013s Bioshock Infinite definitely deserves a spot one of the best moment to moment narratives and one of the best xbox 360 games of all time. Dont forget arguably the greatest DLC of all time with Burial at sea
For halo infinite, the interesting story happened off screen and before the campaign even started…
A Plague Tale. Two of them have been released the second one is currently on game pass. They are absolutely amazing games and truly tell an amazing story with extremely committed voice actors and are absolute in my top 10 games. But i will say replayability isnt exactly the best because it a pretty linear story.
Yoooo I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves the wolf among us
I love the new style of videos and the end part is great I found y’all from halo vids but these have kept me around. Always a insta click when I see new uploads
I'd love to see an update to this where you talk about the games you did try from this vid and hear your thoughts on those
Another banger vid by the best channel on UA-cam keep it up👍
i just want a titanfall 3 so badly
I'm late to the party but I rather like the podcast style segment y'all have at the end it's fun hearing you both just kind of casually talk about gaming stuff.
The Forgotten City (mod and game) is incredible. And Nick Pearce (guy behind it) is great at engaging with fans.
Had an idea for a halo challenge that could be interesting made me think of yall. Seeing how far you can backtrack in halo games from like the end of a mission are you able to just get back to the start area or are there obstacles or changes
Some of these games makes me want to play them for once
i like the podcast style end to these vids
I feel you with Assassin's Creed. Odyssey is the only one that hooked me and that i played through and thoroughly enjoyed
I would have had what remains of Edith Finch on this list. Probably the most emotionally impactful games I've ever played.
If it wasn't for Game Pass, I would have never really tried Yakuza/Like a Dragon or Persona series if it wasn't for it being part of the service. Always games I wanted to try but didn't want to pay for it since they're not my typical games I would go for, but now easily they're two of my favourite franchises of all time and help me get into other games I wouldn't have necessarily tried.
Fantastic List!
Your channel is legendary thank you for your content fire 🔥 💯 🔥
GTA is actually not satire at all. Satire requires comic mockery and misrepresentation of a particular subject or set of subjects in order to criticize it towards a specific, usually political end.
GTA is actually what’s called a “lampoon” which is a general and direct comedic mockery of a subject matter however without the direct political implication of the satire. In other words, the mockery is democratic in that nothing is safe from it, whereas satire picks its targets willfully and carefully as a type of commentary or criticism. Another good example of a lampoon is the show South Park. SP can get away from being so shockingly offensive mostly because of this element- since no body is safe from ridicule nobody is singled out in particular. GTA has always been the same- no one is safe from the writers at R* so no one gets exceptionally upset
God of War Ragnarok has some of the greatest performances in any piece of media
Both of them are enough to make grown men cry
The fact that I played and enjoyed 3 games on the thumbnail makes me happy that other people agree
wasteland 2 and 3 and really any yakuza game prolly have some of my fav stories as of late
I recently finished Ghostwire Tokyo and I give it a solid 8 out of 10. The gameplay was great, most of the side missions were fairly unique not too "fetch questy" some of the boss fights left a bit to be desired, and having to rescue 240,000 souls is a big of a slog, but there are a set a beads you can wear that will make this task easier. I agree with you on Halo Infinite's campaign it, would have been better if members of the UNSC were captured and Master Chief had to rescue them and rebuild the UNSC, and this would introduce new characters into world of Halo so that Master Chief (and by extension the player) had new people to interact with. I absolutely loved the Witcher 3 it was amazing, I played it during the pandemic on game pass, then bought the game of the year edition and played it again! RDR2's story was amazing, and so many other games of the last decade that I can't even think of, Arkham Knight just came to mind, that was in 2015 wasn't it?
I really loved the story from xc2 and it's pretty hard to impress me with a story.
Completely agree with persona. I saw my cousin watching a stream of some guy play it, and the art style got me interested. I had some money so i decided to buy it. 350 hours later and the platinum for P5R also with 300+ hours. Easily in my top 3 games of all time
Surprised Firewatch wasn’t on this list
Disco Elysium feels like reading a well-written book featuring yourself as a protagonist rather than playing a video game because of its unique narrative structure.
It's one of those games you loved so much but can't easily recommend it to your friends
And it was made by communists 10/10
@@FeiFongWang hahahaha No it’s not
@@Nooneishereonlyme hahaha yes it was, the creator literally said it multiple times.
@@FeiFongWang No
@@Nooneishereonlyme Yep
What do you guys think of the marvel blade game that is coming out soon
the GTA segment was a bit strange, like you’re absolutely right about its tone and depiction but you said it in a way that you think it went over people’s heads when really since day one it was praised for its take on social commentary and satire. like thats been a huge part of the series since day one
Great video, however, I am wondering where is Firewatch?? And where is Life Is Strange??
I’ll have to try God of War… I’ve never had a PlayStation, but I see it’s on steam!
I loved Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. One of my favourite games. It’s another great story and seems similar.
The way you guys went over god of war is criminal considering one of the guys hasn’t even looked at it. Enough to make grown men cry not once, but twice in four years that’s crazy
Why did you change the thumbnail?
Honestly there should seriously be another part to this made from comment section recommendations. I’d like to recommend Life is Strange
Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West were a great playstation exclusives
based yakuza mention
I'm old and krusty and have views as such, but RE2 remake is my surprise love for modern gaming. I have a very scrooge mentality with remakes, so when I finally played RE2, it blew my mind in all the best ways. However, I would still LOVE a "Mario RPG" style recreation of the original Resident Evil 2..please....and 3 nemesis 😊
Devil may cry not on here is pissing me off
Far Cry 5 praise is cool
That game used to get hate for no reason
I appreciate your take on Starfield. Its a flawed game and i understand the criticism but i put in well over 200 hours and thoroughly enjoyed my time with it
Bloodborne can also be on this list. Yeah you have to search to get more lore like in all souls game but the lore itself is probablement one of the best ive ever seen
Ghost of tushima needed to be on here for sure
Dude, you absolutely have to play Witcher 3. No game has ever immersed me as well as Witcher. If you can, listen to or read the books first. That’s how I did it, it was a happy accident but I wouldn’t have done it any other way.
MAFIA 2 IS A MASTERPIECEEEEEE! Well, idk if the trilogy edition changed up any of it. But the original tho... *chefs kiss*
With AC I agree most stories feel like an AI wrote them. That said the Ezio trilogy is amazing story wise. Black Flag is also good.
For me the best RPG game in the 2010s is Dragon Quest XI definitive edition . The only thing I knew before playing how people say it brought early nostalgic memories of playing video games . And this was 100 percent true . And some fun memories of being a Dragon ball fan .
Honestly Sifu is my pick for a great story game
bruh i read that as "Stfu"
The Plague Tale games have a geeat narrative. Ghost of Tsushima, the Dark Pictures games. The Jedi games. And Black Flag is the best Assassin's Creed imo.
No telltale the walking dead (season1) or Elden ring
Definitely Resident Evil 2 Remake and Days Gone for me personally.
Also The Order 1886.
Great vid fellas but saying Halo: Infinite is ‘ok’ and that equating to an 8/10 is wild
Hades should have been on here!!
Ori and the will of the wisps for me
jedi fallen order surely :D
Control by Remedy
Idk how you forget Uncharted and The last of us
Nintendo has games with great stories. Xenoblade games, bayonetta 3, astral chain, fire emblem are good examples.
Breath of the wild has a great story. Did you guys even play that game? Although I feel like anyone who doesn’t finish single player games probably shouldn’t be helping to make a list like this, no offense.
Starfield was hyped to the point it needed to be more than Bethesda could even deliver.
Hello there!
Genral Kenobi!
Quantum break. Jedi fallen order. Late shift? Ryse son of Rome. Dying light. Dead rising 3. Hogwarts legacy.
Mass Effect !
THANK YOU for including Starfield. Yes, we all know the game has its issues. (Honestly what game doesnt these days, especially during its first year or so 🙄)
But, ive been really enjoying the stories it tells and choices one needs to make. (Its still a bethesda single player game; choices really only matter as part of dialogue/ relationships; but still i always feel so invested)
I miss mass effect andromeda and batman arhkam knight
Lies of P isn't on here, which means you didn't play it, you need to try it out ASAP
Are you really surprised GTA 5 holds up so well😂 all rockstar games hold up
I disagree with Cold War
At least one Life Is Strange game should’ve been on here
I was surprised considering how popular it is, but I guess they didn't know about it. I despise Life is Strange's story tho so it didnt bother me, but they did mention TLOU to compare another game, yet didn't count TLOU which baffled me xD
No way
Life is Strange should be here
Putting Star trash on this list Instantly destroys your credibility
Halo infinite didn’t have a story lol
Where was God of War?
Edit: I missed it.
Zero Dawn was great but the story in Forbidden West sucked. I bought the Regalla edition because I loved Zero Dawn so much then was very let down.
Gta 5 single player on ps3 is easily, easily one of if not the best games on the console. The story mode runs much, much better on ps3.
You get more consistent frames than xbox one story mode. I know because im a nerd.
Because gta 5 has been released on everything but the switch, it doesnt get to be viewed as a ps3 game by fans. And thats a shame
Ps5 storymode is way better then ps3 story mode
no max payne 3? goddamn lackin
Mass effect is the best hands down
No Quantum Break? Boo hiss
Sleeping Dogs.
How did Last of Us not make it here into the video? It’s definitely there. You should have actually played most of the games you talked about instead of “oh I started it but I heard it’s good”
Why don’t these guys like PlayStation?
He said he had a PS4 but didn’t want to spring for the PS5 just for a few titles, when they’d most likely come to PC eventually.
The preference for Xbox is probably because of Halo… for me at least it is. :)
He's an xbox failure fan
Why would they like console if they can run games at 4x the fps on their pc?
Black ops 1
Why GTA5 is in the previe i dunno, sure as sht wasnt perfect...
How in the fuck did you get Redfall and Starfield on this list and did not get The Last of Us 1 or 2 or Jedi Fallen Order. This list makes no sense at all. Lol. Then you said Controls story was not that good in the end. WTF. TO EACH HIS OWN.
GTA 5 XDDDDDDDDDDD
Yeah right.
Hogwarts legacy was a the only game as an adult that grabbed me the way games did as a kid. But I’m not sure that it was the story so much as the world.
If we’re being honest a lot games were always shite. Look at the countless nes, snes, n64, ps1, ps2 etc. games that sucked ass. It has absolutely nothing to do with “games were better back then” or “modern games are better”
My point is there have always been shitty cash grab games that come out broken or glitchy, it’s not a problem exclusive to any era of gaming. People just like to simplify and pretend things are “this or that” when they typically fall somewhere in between or completely outside that spectrum
If you didn't play the games why even put them on ur list. Sounds like you did a Google search for top story games the past 10 years
No way did you include Starfield lmao
It's the most milquetoast nothing game ever, it literally has no plot, find artifacts, fast travel to unity, do new game plus, THERE IS LITERALLY NO STORY OR CONCLUSION
GTA V was not perfect at all, far from it. Especially when it comes to the story.
Red Dead Redemption II waa far superior in every way.
Another fail of a list video from you, why am i not surprised.
And Starfield is a perfect story game?! You guys are cracked lol.
GTA 5s story is pretty good but not perfect, they killed off Johnny Klebitz from GTA IV the lost and the damned and got him back with Ashley (which is dumb because at the end of TLOTD Johnny left her and the biker gang behind), they disrespected and wasted his character
