This Amiga was left to rot in an attic // Can I restore it!
🛠️ Join me today as I attempt to rescue this vintage Commodore Amiga 600 home computer that has been sitting in an attic for 20+ years, and might be contaminated with mould.
🟣 Firstly, I do a full teardown of the Amiga, looking at the condition and what surprises lie inside. Then I give the whole system, from case to motherboard a good clean, to remove any potential biohazard threats that lie within.
🟣 Then it is the moment of truth where we can see if it actually works, and if so try and load up from floppy disk the classic game Lemmings! I then, go ahead to test and try to diagnose any faults on the Amiga
🟣 Don't forget to let me know in the comments, what other fixes/mods you think I should do now with this Amiga!

Great work! I would love to see a part 2! Also, there are now replacement membranes available for the Amiga 600. Not as fun as attempting to fix them but it would probably be more reliable in the long run.

Very nice restoration! I have been working on restoring some A500s myself when I get time to do so and it has not been a simple task by any means. If you can't find a reasonable way of repairing the keyboard membrane, it may be necessary to replace it with a new one which believe are still being produced. As for upgrades, I would suggest a PiStorm and a Raspberry Pi as it's one of the cheapest upgrade options while also offering significant performance improvements.

Personally I grew up with the Amiga 500 here in Australia so it sounds weird when you call them old lol. I never really liked the 600 as it has no data pad and it just didn’t feel as good to use as the A500 and A1200. I didn’t have a 1200 as I switched to PC in the mid 90’s to mostly play Doom like many other people did. I did get an A500 mini just for nostalgia though and have thousands of games for it I go through from time to time. Defender of the Crown CD32 version is great and works on the mini thankfully. Plus you can’t beat those Rainbird Text and Graphic adventure games such as The Pawn, and Guild of Thieves and Jester I think it was called.

Hi, You should have had a mask on at all times though even just having it that close on the desk and speaking to the camera without a mask is highly dangerous if that is black mould. You have already breathed in toxins If that is the case. Using a mask to clean the unit was a good idea but not having it on from the start of being near this thing was not. It is hard to tell from this video though as it could just be years of dust and dirt hopefully. If you start to feel unwell or dizzy or anything even days later please go to the doctor.

I bought one of those new like a year before the store closed. I believe they were getting pretty rare at that point. It did not come sprinkled with the same magical fairy dust that the previous Commodore 64 did. I was not disappointed, just not super exited for it.

Best video upgrade for the Composite output is to replace the CXA1145 with a CXA2075M. It requires a couple signals to be flipped around, but there are many guides you can easily search for online. The CXA2075M is the successor IC from Sony and is much better video output, lower noise, no dot-crawl, etc.
