  • With great pleasure, I filmed this fabulous Lola T70 MK3B from 1969, chassis SL76 / 147 and belonging to the Dutch DHG Racing team (dhgracing.nl) of the driver and owner Oliver Hart. We are at the Misano Adriatico circuit during a Track Day session organized by Kateyama. I have to thank Mr Hart, strong of an important past in the world of competitions and all his staff for being very kind. They provided me with videos inside the cockpit with the very fast pilot Nicky Pastorelli at the wheel. He has enormous experience in competitions, having competed in the Euro Formula 3000, Dutch Supercar Challenge, American Le Mans Series with GT cars and currently competes in the championships dedicated to classic cars organized by Peter Auto. This Lola T70 MK3B Group 4 originally belonged to Louis Morand, a well-known racing engine preparation company and was initially used as a test car to develop experimental engines. Subsequently, the T70 participated in several competitions; with the driver Gerard Pillon the Lola won at the Ulm-Laupheim airport circuit on 6 July 1969.
    Furthermore, the T70 MK3B ran many endurance competitions such as the 1,000 km of Buenos Aires, Monza and Spa in 1970. Subsequently sold to Denis Veyrat in 1972, the car competed in Interserie events, finishing sixth at Silverstone and racing at the Osterreichring and Hockenheim. It was then acquired by Gregor Fischer, who ran in the 1973 events at Hockenheim, getting a ninth place. After many other changes of hands, it has finally come to the present day and is part of the splendid racing cars of the DHG Racing Team. Powered by the naturally aspirated 5.0-Liter V8 Chevrolet engine, it can develop 450hp combined with the 5-speed Hewland LG600 manual gearbox. The bodywork is in reinforced fibreglass, and the monocoque frame in riveted and glued aluminium allow the car to be very light with a total weight of only 800Kg! Performance is high even nowadays, and it's a real spectacle to see the Lola T70 compete in the championships dedicated to 1960s Endurance cars. Enjoy! 😉
Buona visione! 😉

But, unfortunately, we've already passed the beautiful era of motorsport (I add cars in general).

    As a former race driver from the 60s and 70s I really appreciate the damn good driving this gentleman is doing. The sound of that small block V8 is orgasmic. As far as I am concerned, they can take all the electric crap race cars and throw them in the ocean! Great racing is not just about speed, but it also is about sound and years ago, about the smell of racing. Even feeling the vibrations of race cars, back in the day, was addicting.

      Thank you for this comment; I find it beautiful and agree entirely. I prefer to film historic cars because in modern ones almost all the spirit of racing cars have been lost, everything is reduced to speed and aerodynamics. I'm not even considering electric vehicles. At the wheel, we find Mr Pastorelli, who has a past as a high-level professional driver and personally is still incredible in his fast and consistent way of taking each car to the limit. This video is great because of the excellent Lola and how the pilot drives it; it's so frenetic and alive. They are the kind of cars that, after a race, you are tired but satisfied because they require a lot of concentration and physical effort 😉👍

      It must be said that the Porsche driver probably wasn't going to the max, or he wasn't swift. But what you say is correct. I spoke to the Lola driver, and I remember him laughing and telling me that he enjoys it a lot on the track because some drivers of these modern cars don't expect a historic car like the Lola to go so fast and put them in trouble. Also, to be seen externally, on the circuit, it is very nice to see this Lola giving "problems" to modern cars, hahaha 😄👍

      I mean, we're also comparing an LMP to a modern GT, they're in two very different categories and the porsche has to deal with the street legal part. Most modern cars are obese compared to the classics, with many large-engined cars still being lighter than modern compacts. A GT3 might get the advantage on corners, but on straights the downforce and weight would hold them back, it could be an interesting show.

    The circuit map on top left of the screen, is absolutly not the good one, this map is not Misano Adriatico and it's not what we see on the road. Precision folks, précision.

    • @Italiansupercarvideo
      @Italiansupercarvideo  Рік тому

      Your observation is correct, but as you can see, the overlay map doesn't work. I think that map is left over from the previous tests they had not done at Misano.

      This is the Misano Adriatico circuit, where international races, including the MotoGP, are held. It's not a tiny track, but this car is probably more at ease on tracks like Imola or Spa Francorchamps.

      @Italiansupercarvideo  Рік тому

      Yes, you are right; if this car were more stable and less slippery, it would set impressive lap times, but we are talking about a car from the 60s; what we see in this video is still remarkable. This car demonstrates that when a driver is behind the wheel who knows how to do his job, the car is very competitive and can give great satisfaction 👍

    The Ford GT40 inspired many of these creations. Detroit power wrapped in exotic European coachwork with fiberglass bodies. There was no disguising the rawness of the large displacement American V8.

    • @Italiansupercarvideo
      @Italiansupercarvideo  Рік тому

      You're right. I think this formula is still current, big American V8 engines on light European cars are a winning combination 👍

    • @buckwheatINtheCity
      @buckwheatINtheCity Рік тому +1

      Aside from the largely unsuccessful Pontiac Fiero and controversial Chevrolet Corvair, US carmakers always build racecars with the engines in the front. The rear engined race car has always been a European affair, regardless of what type of engine it uses. In the 1930s, there were even Miller race cars that were front wheel drive. The DeLorean doesn't count because it was made in Ireland. The famous Italian Lamborghini Countach and the DeTomaso Pantera have rear engines with Italian power. English McLaren and even Jaguar built rear engined high performance cars with their own engines. These cars came later on in the 1980s. Either way, the car featured in this video used a streamlined European body that sat ultra low and placed the engine in the rear.

      @@Bigbigpoopi yeah I know it was technically a cobra lump ish . It did drive through a hewland DG / FG gearbox though so all Ford did is re brand and claim the glory which they seem throughout history to have done . I’ll give them the SR71 , using WW2 German technology, Guns n Roses , using a British lead guitarist and maybe the later version of the P51d mustang that used the version of the merlin engine . if I’m correct they wouldn’t have broke the sound barrier back in the day without technology sold off to American government by the British from our aerospace industry/ project . Just another mail in the US coffin they seem to ban restrict concord in the US political reasons yet again. Oh and for one last thing German scientists got your rockets to the moon . The only thing America has done well is sold the American Dream , American style capitalism and convinced the world debt is good . Kinda funny how 3 banks have just gone with more to follow- transfer of wealth to the top yet again and done on purpose big style . Nothing personal against the Americans

      @@alro2434 MK1 through 3 were 100% British products. Designed and built in Slough with 95% Lola employees in the Lola factory. The Americans did fix the dodgy aerodynamics of the prototype, as they had bought the project then. The mkIV was pure American made.
      Oooh they say, the engine was American Ford, yep, it was, but no one else claims the nationality of the engine make the whole car that nationality, unless you are Shelby of course, he had prior history of that with the AC Ace, also designed and built in Britain, you might know it as the as American as apple pie Shelby Cobra.
      And they didn't even invent apple pie either. Seems like a trend.
