Anyone else impressed by his buddy doing the welding ? Measure measure measure some more and THEN weld ,i do love someone who puts time and effort into their work to make sure it is absolutely correct,
If I had to do it all over again I would have learned heavy equipment. The ability to change the world around you. And All these toys with a place to store them. Bravo well done.
I can't believe after all the years working heavy equipment you haven't learned how to weld. I can't believe that. Can't wait to see this in action. And it will make a great soil breaker too. Nice.
Looking good Chris , it’s good to look after your kit, and it’ll look after you . All the best to you from here in the 🇬🇧🇬🇧, keep the videos coming . Thank you 🇺🇸🇺🇸
We put mounts for one of those rakes on our grapple skidders.p to be able to use it on either one. We added a plate on each side of each blade to level the mounting spot on the blades so we didn’t have to cut either the blade or the mount. They’re a great rake. I also grab the rake with my log loader and sweep up the landing area on our logging operation, that is covered with brush and wood blocks on a daily basis.
I would think you would want to put some side brackets and a spacer piece between the pin brackets for lateral strength so they don't bend while pushing and turning as I can imagine there would be a lot of torque on the pins in a turn. Course I know next to nothing when It comes to metal work... but my profession calls for me to look for weak points... and just something my brain picked up on. Love the rake cant wait to see it in real use.
That Dozer is a machine from the future. With the cooling package in the back the visibility of the blade is unmatched by any other manufacturer. I had never seen one so I stopped by the local dealer and looked at a used one they had, salesman opened it up and let me crawl around. Very nice cab and controls, glad you got a nice rake for it, you might be on it as much as the Volvo's! Stay safe my friend.
We put a skid plate on the end of our root rakes, it made it more manageable as the rake wouldn't sink too far into the ground and the materials arrived at the burn site with far less dirt.
Hope it works. A root rake would be best to have the tines curved all the way above the blade, so when pushing the pile will roll. That would help to keep brush from coming over the top of the blade too.
A great timelapse, thanks Chris. Looks like you'll have some fun with that. Reckon it'd come in handy scooping up concrete and rocks while sifting out dirt?
I bet that will work mint for grubbing.. Ive never used a rake on a dozer before but i can see it covering alot more area than an excavator ever could in a day. Looks like it might have enough weight on it to be used as a clam too..
Good idea on notching the dozer blade. If you would have notched the bracket they would have broke within just a few hours. The rake takes a lot of stress on the brackets and even your blade cylinders.
That new root rake is looking sporty on the dozer! Can't wait to see some videos of that raking. I'd like to see the company I work for to get a grappler for our skid steer. Rakes definitely come in handy!
remember to put the bolts back in the holes when your not using the pole .. dirt will fill the holes unless they are all the way threw holes .. only thing missing on that unit is the mini kitchen .. microwave and coffee pot .. lol at least you got the engine bay too warm your meals ,,
Good call on notching the blade. You won't lose any strength on it, but notching the mounting plate so close to the pjn hole, would stress every time you sat the rake down.
Of course you can't have small scratches, rust and bent original corner lift plates on the dozer blade, Chris! How are you thinking when using two different colors? All other dozers in the world are spotless and in mint condition! Maybe it will look better after you repaint the whole dozer it with original Volvo CE Yellow? Haha! Nice piece of machinery!

Hey chris, love the upgrades, video wise, also equipment wise also. I have a quick question or two if you have the time to answer them buddy. One is I know the one 250 Volvo is your personal machine and the 2nd skid steer you got a short while back is your personal machine, and I think this dozer is your personal machine also, if im asking to personal of questions just say so but are you half owner in you grandfathets/uncles company is the first question and if not are you planning to open your own or just maybe have your own company but just do it on the side? I know thats kinda personal so I'll understand if ya don't want to answer it. I also wanna say thank you for filming and religiously uploading the way you do. You are very genuine, and you do what you say. Theirs alot of you tubers that say im gonna upload every day or everywhere that don't. on the Root fork. imagine... having an upside down L shaped bar welded on the front.. or even a straight bar .. that when you lift the root fork all the way up against something.. you put a second set of pins thru the brackets you welded to the top of the blade... so the root fork is held up securely at a high angle. if they make a 2 section.. one can have a latching effect.. so get the root fork against something to lift it up and one side latches in place while you pin the other side.. it will be hell to unpin it from a high angle. but it might be doable. no use having to track back and forth across a job to pick up the root rake or have to go to the far side of a job to get it to haul it back to the low boy.. your GPS pole. cut the pole a few inches higher than the blade.. build up an insert to go in the lower half that fits a sliding fit tight in the upper tube.. slit the sides or the front of the upper tube allowing you to put a single nut or bolt thru the upper tube to pinch it tight on the insert .. allowing you to take it down fairly easily. but also... weld a tube section to the side of the top piece.. so you can take it off.. and mount it sideways on the lower tube to keep it out of the way when not needed.
Personal thought is this a good Dozer need a good Root Rake it definitely makes a HUGE difference in clean up & push Brush to the Brun pile I use Root Rake a lot as well as GPS for grading makes a world of a difference
