I remember being *really* angry about that same FF9 guide when I was a child. Killed collecting guides for me, because it taught me: -The internet was a useful tool for looking up information about video games, -The information they had on their site was almost as useless as the information in the book (It was often the exact same blurb, plus maybe two more sentences), -it led me to discovering that GameFAQs existed, often had better/more in-depth guides, and was free!
It's always a little sad having to explain the competitive newcomers that tanky-looking monsters don't work at all like you would expect and that just because you technically can give them no speed doesn't mean it's going to work well... But them's the breaks.
I love collecting game guides. Reading all the lore and data is really fun. I have the guide for Phantasy Star 4 somewhere, and I never even had a Genesis. Now, the *worst* guide I've ever seen was the one for Grandia. It was literally just a bunch of no-context screenshots. No writing or description of anything. Just screenshots.
@@MoosebonesGrandia's protagonist being an adventurer means there are loads of good treasures all over the place, but the guide doesn't show most of them. I don't think it even shows the three side dungeons at all. It doesn't even link to a good online guide.
Speedy monster: "You'll never hit me, Tank!" Tanky monster: "I only have to once!" This was a fun vid to watch. I honestly would love to see some Rancher 1 content. I've honestly wanted a breakdown on the Magic/Majin, especially if you clarify that it's meant to be more of a spirit creature. I do wish for it to come back since you know it'd look fantastic mixed with a bunch of the new monsters and the secret versions would be totally awesome.
mr1 competitive is a bit batshit, there's like 4 monsters that are unbeatable top tiers with human control but 2 of them are pretty bad with AI. There's also 2 or 3 monsters that would be comparably, significantly worse than Mocchi is in mr2
@@Moosebones Oh yeah I'm aware. For all the jank that folks point out in MR2, I know there is an infinite amount more in MR1. Just the ability to give multiple items to your monster in a single week is more than enough to trivialize stat gains. Still, I enjoy it for Henger's final saber, Disk and Magic monsters, and Dragons having a sort of hawk-like aspect to them.
I remember being frustrated by a guide for Tomb Raider 3. It was poorly written, it would give a lengthy set of instructions, then say “but before you do any of that go do this” well guess what, missed that part. Damn lol.
it would be nice IF we could use the disk drive, but the database is an amazing answer to fix this problem for the switch, and even pc. so i'm not that bothered by its exclusion. just sad they couldnt add it.
I’m playing on my phone and i can’t see where battle abilities are written. So most of the time i had to raise and battle a monster to even know if my monster has battle abilities or not.

the ff9 guide being heinous hit me hard bc it's like a top 3 game of all time for me and it's a useless stack of paper.

How would you know if the monster has the ability? Aside from using disk chips. Need to boost my knowledge of the game.
