  • Hi everyone! I decided to re-do this video now that I’ve been at Brown University longer and truly know what I like and dislike about the school! I think this video is a lot more helpful than my other Pros/Cons video, but feel free to reach out to me or comment down below if you still have any lingering comments! @@maximofenn3202 No, I didn't! Got rejected from Brown ED1. I did, however, get into UMass Amherst and their Honors College, I got into UVM w/a 50% ride, and I got into Northeastern! I've been deferred EA from USC and Case Western, and I got deferred from my ED2 school, Boston College. Waiting to hear from 15 more schools! I'll continue to update :)

      If you look up independent concentrations at Brown, there’s a whole page dedicated to it! It’s super cool and could be a cool way to show that you did your research in some essays if you have an idea for one :)

    PROS
    - doesn't grade on a curve; "promotes collaboration". good for grab school
    - grad inflation -- cannot fail. only A B C or pass/fail; if you fail its removed from your external transcript and only put on the internal one
    - can drop a class any time up until the final
    - built own major [combo bio and history: infectious epidemiology]
    - support provided by school for text anxiety [accomodations for extensions, extra time, calm environment, etc]
    - lots to do in Providence and on campus [performances, art fairs, etc]
    - train to boston and NY; free RIFDA through Brown, free on-call Brown-specific taxi service , zipcar available
    - great connections and education
    CONS
    - little school spirit / football game attendence
    - smaller school [7,400]
    - lack of mental health resources [outsource continuous weekly support]

    Interesting to hear about the lack of mental health support. My daughter is at Brown now and works in mental health. She feels (at least her immediate team) is very supportive when it comes to mental health. I guess that would make sense though since it is their area of specialty. Very comprehensive video. I'm sure a lot of people will find helpful.

    Your major sounds exactly what I have wanted to do for a long time! Did you choose Brown because of the flexibility of creating a major or for another reason? (also, I have test anxiety so this is super nice to hear)

    • @cecilesch
      @cecilesch  Рік тому +2

      That was a def a big reason for me--I loveddd the flexibility of being able to design my own curriculum to include exactly what I was interested in! Also YES the testing accomodations have transformed my learning it's insane how calm I am while taking tests now because I don't have to countdown every last second and induce a panic attack !

    watching this as I apply to Brown RD 23/24.The numbers are against me but well, can't hurt to try. But the con part of Brown not being known isn't really that big of a deal considering almost everyone I know knows it and I'm an international student lol. I'll update mid March if I get good news, if it's bad news...well no lol

    When I’m explaining how my academics excite me and how I might pursue them at Brown for the application, would it be good to say that the option to drop a class remaining constant throughout the semester would make me feel confident enough to challenge myself and dive head-first into rigorous and fascinating new subject? or does that make it sound like I think I’d fail

    • @cecilesch
      @cecilesch  8 місяців тому

      hm personally I wouldn’t mention that aspect, but instead talk about being able to take that class pass/fail since that’s something most colleges don’t allow! The same thing applies since that’ll let you get into a new subject and challenge yourself
      The drop part is just a bonus but probably not something to acknowledge in a why brown essay
