I like the pegasus stuff, and I have a NUC setup, but I have to say... i keep using the ASAIR PRO. It has power, USB hub, power management, software, on-beep - everything! And it's $299. Only two issues: 1.= WiFi connectivity, and you can work around that with a TP_Link extender (or plug ethernet directly into the box.) 2. No easy way to do sharpcap-style video. For that, I still use the NUC.
Interesting observation. My asi air pro got 2 uses and I boxed it. Even with wifi extender, I was dropping off. Crazy that ir cant be hardwired. My USB 3 hub was put back in service with SGP and My pegasus is going to tidy everything up nicely. ASI was layed out real nicely but no hardwiring is a deal breaker. ASI AIR PRO for sale!
I also purchased two set of PB Advance several weeks ago for Ines 10' and FCT-150 telescope. It's pretty excellent tool. I connect ASI6200+EFW+ASI174+bSGR focuser+MGboxV2+ Unihedron DL+MTS-3SDI+tew Dew strip to this PPB Advance with no problem. It worked as it should, though requires powerful electric source.
Good review! I have the original Powerbox with a powered USB hub. The additional benefit I see with this advanced unit is less cables since a USB hub is not required.
Thank you for this excellent video! I came across it at the right time as I have the Powerbox Advance on my roadmap. I'm building a field battery box and you confirmed for me the Powerbox Advance comes with the 12V cigarette style adapter. Much appreciated! 👏👏👏
Great review., thanks. I am trying to decide whether to go with the Advanced or not. The issue I have is that I have a CCD which is USB2 and all of the rest of my kit is USB2 as well. The next step up is the 'Ultimate' version but at over double the price of the Advanced I cannot warrant the extra cost. Seems a shame that I will have to plug at least one USB cable to my laptop when the whole point of the product is to stop this. Shame they have not just made all of the ports USB2 compatible... :-(
All the Pegasus hubs are USB2 compatible, its just than only their newer ones are USB3 compatible. Sorry if I made that confusing in the video. You shouldn't have any issues with your USB2 equipment.
@@lazyastronomy3348 thanks for the reply. The advanced description states “ Please notice that only 3 out of 4 USB Ports are compatible to USB2 devices” Since my post I have decided to go with the ultimate version. Even if it is twice the price 🙄
I haven't used the ultimate powerbox before. It seemed a little too big and was a little more expensive than what I needed at the time. How do you like it?
Lazy Astronomy It’s great they gave me the wrong power lead I got the lead that works with the battery but after I get the right plug and lead I won’t use the 12v 24ah Lithium LiFePo4 battery I got anymore might just keep it as you won’t get anything for it selling it.
The micro is a good little unit, except the advance has the benefit of an included usb hub. The micro negates any cost saving, as you have to buy a separate usb hub.
My only doubt is about the usb ports, wont you be causing any kind of conflict when you start to connect guide camera, mount, polemaster all together comunicating to a single USB port?

Very informative review, thank you !
Would be nice to see how you installed the box on your scope

What kind of AC adapter did you purchase for it or does it come with it? Thanks
I just got my Pegasus Ultimate powerbox V2 and the Motorfocus kit V2 just need a losmandy plate to hold it

Great review video, Thank you...
I thought it might be a good thing for my observatory - until I saw the price.
Ditto. I can't fathom why these things are so expensive. It's a fancy power strip.

Not worth extra 129$ imo for just a USB 3.0 hub. I'll stick with my basic PPB.
