    Love your channel! Just wanted to say that I set mine up with the c wire adapter and had no issues and i've been super happy with it! i had never messed with a hvac system or changed a thermostat before this project either. i thought the 30 minute time quote they gave was unrealistic but outside of that i was super happy with the entire process.

    I just received my pre-order Wyze thermostat and installed it. This is by far the best thermostat I have installed. Easy step by step instructions with videos if you need them. The Nest was a pain to try to install. I made sure my system was compatable before I ordered it. Follwed their instructions and part way through Nest stated I need a professional to install my thermostat because I have a dual fuel heating system. Returned it!! I have 2 Honeywells 9585(?) and both work well, pretty easy to install, but wire connecting posts are all near the center and hard to get wires into the posts. No problems with Wyze, post on top and bottom and far enough away so you can insert the wires easily. Also no problem with duel fuel setup on the Wyze or Honeywell. They ask you what you have and dsiplay what wires go were. So the smart Nest couldn't have done this without calling a professional installer. The Honeywells are hard to use at the thermostat. Touch areas do not respond sometimes. You have to go through several layers of menus to chage schedules and have to back out of all the menus to get to the main screen. I do like the main screen that has all the info right there all the time including outdoor temp. I use the Honeywell app to control the thermostat, so much easier to do, you do not have to go through all the menus to change a simple setting.
    I really like the Wyze, but I'll have to see how it works over time.
    One thing I'm having problem with is Alexa control. Alexa will not find my Wyze thermostat. The Honeywells work OK with Alexa.
    When I try to add the thermostat to Alexa, they give you manufacture choices. Nes and Honeywell are there, Wyze is not. I think this is the problem
    I just email Wyze support, I'll see what they say.
    So for $50 Wyze, $100 Honeywell or the $200 Nest. I lean towrds the Wyze. The Nest is terrible for the price.
    I hope the Wyze holds up.
    ** I had a C wire on my system, so I didn't have to use the module ***
    Update: Problem with schedules. I created schedules for heat early AM and end heat 2 hours later. I want the temp to continue to drop about 10 degrees before coming on before the next 4PM schedule heat time. Since I live in a mild climate the heat usually will not come on until the next scheduled time. Problem is the Wyze will not follow the schedule times. It will come on between times even if the temp is only 2 degrees lower. I tried the AWAY state, but it still continued to come on early.I contacted Wyze, wait time on phone about only 10 minutes. They confirmed that I would have heat continue to be on because even in AWAY state the thermostat will read by phone's bluetooth and stay in the HOME state. The schedules can not be overriden at this time. They will look into adding a way to turnoff bluetooth link in a future firmware update. My Alexa connection problems is known and they are working on a solution. So, I'm thinking we are beta testers for this thermostat so they can find the bugs in the system. This is something I don't like, they should have done more in-house testing.
    Honeywell is looking better at this time. No problems with schedules, it has followed them all the time for the last year. It connected to Alexa with no problems and functions using Alexa voice commands. I really don't need my phone to tell the thermostat I am home. I can use the app to say I'm home or turn on the thermostat before I get home using the app. I'd rather have the thermostat follow the schedule times I set as pirority functions and let me choose to deviate from them when I need.
    The Honeywell does this well, hope the Wyze will get an update to do this very soon or I'll send it back before the 30 day timeline is up.

      Reminds me of the error I made installing the Ecobee power injector as we only had 4 wires. I didn't read far enough into the instruction booklet and just hooked up the wires to the matching colors as they were. Turns out the instructions specified that I needed to not make assumptions as the wires weren't hooked up the 'standard' way when using the power injector. If only I had read it to the end I would have saved hours of troubleshooting and problems I caused with that unneeded troubleshooting.
      Also, I wouldn't recommend anyone hook up Nest thermostat unless you have a C wire. You might not have problems, like lifehackster hasn't yet, but you might end up like me and have the part that starts it burn out because that is how Nest gets power, constantly doing very short starts and stops to get power flowing but not spin up the fan. Had to pay $400 to have a new board installed after bout 2 years.

    What you have there will work fine. All you need to do is connect that blue wire to the "c" in the air handler. Then connect the other end to "c" on the tstat. This wire is not a constant 24volts, it's the common side of the transformer. The red wire is the 24 volt line.

    • @93mr2rich
      @93mr2rich 3 роки тому +1

      @@LifeHackster As Rich said you have all that you need right there. When you began set up it asked you what wires you had and you listed four. But when you realized that you had the blue wire available at the control board, you then hooked it up correctly at the thermostat. But I believe that the thermostat was still under the impression that you still set it up to run on four wires. You should hook that green wire back up and redo the set up from the beginning , telling the thermostat that you have a five wire set up.

    Hello LifeHackster,
    I found ur chanel right now and ur reviews are awesome!
    🙏I have an important question to you:
    I want to buy an indoor camera wich i can install in my parents flat. (They want it also, just that u know). My mom tells me often, that nearly every month or day something got stolen... . 2 years ago,I bought and setted up an indoor camera called: Nokia Withings home. Everything worked fine till last year. The App doesnt work now and nokia doesnt update it bcs the camera is already "old". I don't know what is happening in their house and i want to find it out bcs slowly it gets me on the nerves... . Now I want to buy an indoor camera. I want to place it on the ceiling in the corridor or anywhere else, where it is fixed. I want that they and me can see on the app what is happening and get an alert when sombody want to enter their house. What i want 100% as well is, that the camera can save the recordings in a cloud, so i (alone) can see it from my Laptop or mobile anytime. I want to find out what is happening in their flat. I can't take it anymore😓. The camera could cost up to 300€/$ but i want that it has all these features.
    Pls help me, i can't take it anymore😔
    Stay healthy, Alex

    The reason from what I’m seeing for your breaker tripping is because you need to hook up common to brown, not blue. Common is used as a ground to complete the 24 volt circuit and red is used as power. So from the looks of it your red and blue wire from the thermostat wire are connected to the same thing, which sends the 24 volts straight to ground thus tripping your breaker. But you need to look up your wiring diagram to make sure brown is common.

    Hire an electrician? The thing about Wyse is that its pretty much a do-it-yourself products company. The need to call someone that will add to the cost makes this thermostat a no-go for me if I don't have a C wire.

  • @sanlyn9
    @sanlyn9 3 роки тому +2

    We had an identical situation and had an un-used blue wire as well. We paid the A/C company who installed our unit to come out and install our c-wire. He also spliced our common wire to an un-used blue wire, which rendered the c-wire adapter absolutely useless, and he didn’t even install it. He put the blue wire in the c wire spot on the thermostat and it was done. The adapter is still in the box, and I would pay that service fee all over again. I cannot recommend just having a professional do it enough. It saved us so much stress in the end.

    Bluetooth pairing issue. Green wire not connected issue. Network issue (nothing else has issues). I cant get to the point where I can actually use the thermostat, not even as a basic state. So I'll just uninstall it and put back my existing thermostat for now.

I really like the thermostat so far. It even works with Alexa.

    Hard to say for certain, but it looks like you installed it wrong. After you installed the C wire adapter, it shows you wiring up the thermostat. With the C wire adapter installed, the green wire that you have running to G is actually the C wire. Wyze even says this in the setup instructions through the app. So the green wire should run to C when using the C wire adapter. Or, since you discovered you have a C wire, remove the C wire adapter all together and just use the C wire directly. Perhaps that would fix your problem.

    Hey lifehackster. I feel your pain, I installed two nest thermostats for family today. Out of the six thermostat installs I’ve done so far every single one of them had a wiring issue somewhere. It sounds like your “C” terminal isn’t what it claims if it trips your breaker every time. I hope you can find a solution, it might involve some clever googling of your control board.

    Been a huge wyze fan since cam 1 but they are pushing too much stuff out too quick. That said I have like 3 preorders in. My v3 cam is not good and the outdoor alert time is ridiculous.

      Ordered 8 of their light bulbs on 02 December. They were in stock and their email stated they would ship in 1-3 days. Tried to cancel the order two weeks later and they said they couldn't because it was "prepared for shipping". Finally threatened to go to the BBB (they have a C- rating with the BBB because of customer complaints) to get my money back after over 3 weeks of waiting and they were suddenly able to cancel the order. Cancelled a few preorders while I was at it. No more Wyze. I'll pay more for better.

    Here’s how you get it to work, I have the same issues and setup as this reviewer. You will need to connect your yellow, red, green and white cable directly to the furnace circuit board if possible or wirer it up like this video showed. On the thermostat make sure the C, G, R, W, and Y are connected. Once you turn on the furnace power back on from the main and if you have a switch on the side of the furnace turn that on too your Wyze thermostat will power on. If your stuck on the Wyze screen and can’t get by it hold the button on the front of the thermostat for 15 seconds and restart the thermostat. In order to avoid the thermostat from turning off when you set the temp up is to skip the preferences. Maybe that will be fixed later with a patch but my Wyze thermostat is working perfectly now

      From there website " 20 minutes DIY installation anyone can do.
      Installing a new thermostat is easier than you might think. The Wyze app guides you through the installation process, step-by-step." People that buy this should not have to go through this if this is what they state . I see a lot people getting electrocuted .

    • @wateryspit
      @wateryspit 3 роки тому

      The very first thing the instructions tell you to do is power off the furnace from the fuse box once that’s off you can’t get electrocuted.

    I’ll judge Wyze. I’m not impressed and will NOT advise anyone in my family to purchase anything from Wyze if the ask me. No support for Apple HomeKit, no Siri or shortcuts. Do Wyze even support Thread technology???? 🤔 I know Wyze is cheap and their software is clumsy but y’all keep paying them attention.

  • @iblackfeathers

    i would prefer the other one due to the backup battery that keeps your settings.
    i am guessing with the wyze theromostat it would have delayed notifications, person detection with a subscription, and not work as well in low light from 20 feet away in night vision ir mode but now has an ip65 rating (joking).

    I had the same issue with my eco bee. I think key is checking what wires you already have, and also check if there are any wires hidden behind the existing thermostat plate. My case I had a C wire that was tucked inside and hidden.

Suggestions to others, if you do not know what you are doing and cannot take photos to reverse error, hire a hvac pro not a youtube pro or hgtv superstar.

    Wyze started off great but jumped the shark so early with the bathroom scale.
    The poor contracts they made with their business partners cause disruption with their current and planned (but announced) products combined with their lack of focus and quantity over quality approach, network instability, and poor data security practices leaves me no longer trusting Wyze.
    In the smart home category you must have the trust of your customers and sadly, I just don’t tryst Wyze anymore.

    Recently replaced an older Honeywell Z-Wave thermostat with an Ecobee 3 lite due to diagnosing issues with a heat pump. It also has a similar setup to the Wyze. Does not have it's own battery and depending on your equipment also requires a C-Wire adaptor.
    But I can see why HVAC techs recommend the Ecobee. For the price ($149) it had the best features IMHO. The option to add multiple remote sensors that can give the thermostat a better picture of the home's needs was a big plus, too.
    I honestly was planning on getting a Johnson Controls GLAS thermostat because I loved the looks of it. But for something you really shouldn't be touching that often anyway, the Ecobee hardware and app was a better choice. I'd be interested in seeing your take if you ever review one of their products.

      @@LifeHackster just to add to my last comment since I got your notification: the app actually notified me of a potential issue with our heat pump due to needing to run in AUX mode for too long overnight.
      Would have never known about it without that notification, maybe when I got the following months electric bill, lol. Not versed in other smart thermostats if they do this as well, but wanted to add that in my personal experience so far.
