Love it already! Red shoes was special to me as I lost family around its release & lost my dad since but also met some great friends at the 94 convention in Leicester square so could really relate to the pain & loss in the darker tracks on the album & the magic as well 'its really happenin to ya'. Cant wait to hear the updated songs in full. Thanks Kate!

There is no one like Kate Bush. To compare ANYONE - whether it's Lady Gaga, Tori Amos, or any other female artist - to her is an insult. Kate is one of the most unique individuals in music.

I think this is fantastic! If you listen very carefully to the original version you can hear this screaming buried in the mix; it moves from channel to channel and is very hard to hear at first. I am very excited to hear the rest of the song!
@thefishpeople1 If I may ask: what exactly has Gaga created? For in my view cheapo Euro-Disco songs and secondhand fashion weirdouts (taking cues from Björk and Marylin Manson) doesn't count as "creativity".

Tori was playing the piano from age 3/4....in the late 60's........10 years before kate was out..... she was the youngest ever musician to be inducted into the msuic school she went to (peabody academy) before kate bush was even out.... I like both artists and they evolved independantly, tori didnt do the 'chick with a piano' routine because she 'stole it' off kate bush.....
Could we just NOT use the L-- G-- name anymore here? I recently came to appreciate the L-- G-- person; I appreciate that she covered "Don't Give Up" even if I didn't like it (really didn't like the original either); but I agree with the astute person who said something to the point of "Let's stay on topic" and the topic is the new version of "Lily"--incredible--and Kate Bush. And I, for one, will NOT refer to "you know who" from here on out.
@WillieMammothSSJ But I think she has caught on in America--do you mean the U.S., Canada or both? I'm in the U.S., and though she isn't a household name, completely over-exposed, she does have a significant following here. The critical response to her, too, is usually quite lofty. I agree with you: I wouldn't have wanted to see her do what one must to become a so-called super star here. Whatever it is about fame that drives some to do all and anything, she just doesn't have it.
@ribogok can't we enjoy one artist without bashing another? You do have a point but GaGa IS a talented artist. I personally enjoy her most bashing away on the piano and singing her little monster heart out. Is she a music revolutionary? Nope. But she ain't rubbish either.
Kate Bush has never had any contest when it comes to a crazy songwriter woman behind a piano. I've been a fan of hers since I heard WH on the radio 10 years ago. I grew up w/ her. A true inspiration.

@WillieMammothSSJ, I agree with you totally. And let's be honest: Gaga will NEVER be remembered for her skills as a musician. The fact that she can carry a tune while sitting at the piano, does not make her a credible musician. Some of her songs are okay, but she's at most a very skilled copycat whose music does not have a single shred of originality. Madonna should sue her ass off for blatantly copying "Express Yourself" in her latest single. Kate is an icon, an artist, an original !
@iluvbsteele Don't forget she is also releasing new material asap. I like the idea of Director's Cut. Kate is also doing it sympathetically. She had ideas that never got realised with these songs and she is releasing them ALONG WITH the original albums they feature on if you want them. No one can accuse her of re-writing history that way.
My only wish to make this perfect would be an accompanying visual... not that Kate's music needs it. One of a select few who really don't need it. It's just sad that some people from the current generation (ie my generation) may not pay much attention to this without a visual... which is a shame, but then, maybe Kate isn't for them. Either way, this audio surpasses expectations.
Well, Kate doesn't want to be George Lucas and doesn't Director's Cut in general is supposed to be any better for her fans. She still treasures the original tracks as seperate songs and thank god! We wouldn't like what happened with Star Wars, if anyone knows what I am talking about

Kate did not sign on with a new label, she founded her own. However, EMI still seems to act as distributor, but it means she has even more control over her own work than she had before (which was already a lot more control than many other artists have).
as a long time Kate Bush admirer,...can't fathom why she chose this album to redo...it was an excellant album but not one of her best, ....but then again, maybe thats why she did it after all....whatever it seems her hiatus is over, and she is becoming a musical force again....god speed katie!
Her vocals make my cheeks tremble... The aggressive tone reminds me immediately of the donkey-singing on Get Out Of My House, and it is just as possible to hear Watching You Without Me + Leave It Open in this year's escalation of Deeper Understanding.
So many 5/5 songs. Awesomeness!
@lessermystery Kate's very much aware of the H.C. Andersen story and the Powell film; in fact, she was friend's with Powell before he died, and he's the man--"But he isn't well at all"--she refers to in the song, "Moments of Pleasure."
When I first saw the Fish People, I thought of Doctor Who, The Underwater Menace, but then again, I guess that's what IvoryBones is talking about...

@deanriam you are generally right I think. I think what's hitting the nerve is the perceived lack of a mainstream but highbrow pop artist. A la "things were better in the good old days"

My guess is that "Fish People" is something to do with her son, some story or game they have or had! Kate is just crazy about her wee boy!

the directors cut is terrible, i have all kate bush albums and some bootlegs aswell, but this is not very good at all.

They're different. Kate bush could/would never have written Choirgirl Hotel or Boys for Pele.

Haven't heard Kate sounding this mad (in a good way) since The Dreaming, she's letting loose her inner banshee again! Nice to hear that this venerable 52 year old has still got that kind of energy in her. Metal fans take note!
