I just came to know that the empty chair, the guitar, the candle, and the cross-faded footage of Alan Murphy (Level 42) playing in the closing choruses is a Kate Bush tribute to him, who worked with her (several albums) and died back in 1989 of AIDS. Kate pays tribute to where he would be standing playing his guitar if alive. What a good heart. Love U, Kate. xxx ♥♥♥

Knowing Kate she would dread to be called a goddess🤦🏽‍♀️.. She will regularly say “I don’t see th fascination, they’re are more fascinating things and people than me. I’m just an ordinary person who makes music.” And I think that’s what kept kate grounded, she’s such a beautiful hearted woman who has no interest in fame or overshot labels of deity, all she’s ever wanted to do is just put her music out there and live an every day life without harassment, labels and falsehoods. She is a musical enigma with boundless talent, but one has to be inspired by her words, voice & individuality🥰.. Defo a trend setter and I hear her inspiration in th music of Flo and th machine but to name one of many.. So bottoms up kate🥂Thanks for th Love🎵👌🏽🥰

@@nellies It's wonderful to hear that you have discovered Kate's music Nellie. I don't pretend to know her except through her music and her reclusiveness, but she seems to have such a lovely if troubled mind, and it comes across in both lyrics and melodies. Just rediscovered her very first album this year. Owned it for decades, and yet it feels more fresh and exciting to me now than it ever did.
If you haven't listened to Before the Dawn - you have a wonderful treat in store and her son sings on that again - no longer the little boy boy in 50 words for snow, but a young man in his own right. You mentioned another albums you had yet to listen to - which was it?

A beautiful tribute to Alan Murphy by a beautiful human being and an astounding musician. I'm so glad a new audience is discovering her music now.
I was born the year this was released, so I guess I could be called a new generation of Bush listener, however I have grown up with her music and it has meant more to me than I could ever adequately articulate. It fills my heart with joy to have heard so much from her these past few weeks.

I remember buying this when it came out as a single by Elton John. I couldn’t stop playing it - I loved it so much. Most artists in the mid seventies played guitar but Elton played piano and I dreamed of being able to play like him.
Years later in 1989, Elton and Bernie Taupin were putting together an album called Two Rooms, which was a collection of cover versions of their songs, each featuring a different singer. To my delight they asked me to be involved and I chose Rocket Man. They gave me complete creative control and although it was a bit daunting to be let loose on one of my favourite tracks ever, it was really exciting. I wanted to make it different from the original and thought it could be fun to turn it into a reggae version. It meant a great deal to me that they chose it to be the first single release from the album.
That meant I also had the chance to direct the video which I loved doing - making it a performance video, shot on black and white film, featuring all the musicians and... the Moon!
Alan Murphy played guitars on the track. He was a truly special musician and a very dear friend. Tragically, he died just before we made the video so he wasn’t able to be there with us but you’ll see his guitar was placed on an empty chair to show he was there in spirit.
This is the first time this video has officially been released since its original TV broadcast.

I almost went to her concert at Hammersmith Odeon. I was 16 and I had a choice to see either Kate or Rush, (1979) and my boyfriend wanted see Rush. So I missed out on a Kate Bush concert not knowing that 1979 would be her last tour years. At least we now have internet where for now we can watch most artist on. For those who might be curious about some of the muso's in the clip; The drummer Charlie Morgan played on a couple of Elton John's albums as well as M's Bush's and clannad and Gary Gilmour and Nik Kershaw and a heap of others.
Alan Murphy was the guitarist and he played on Go West and M's Bush's backing band. The poor fella died of AIDS and was a sad loss hence the candle and the guitar may he rest in peace.
Del Palmer on bass was M's Bus's former partner and played in her bands and is still out there bashing the four stringer.
Alistair Anderson the Concertina player is a legend in British folk scene and he also plays the beautiful Northumbrian pipes. You can hear the sublime Paddy Moloney playing them on Mike Oldfield's Ommadawn album(sorry got sidetracked)
Finally there is the incomparable Davy Spillane on his Uilleann pipes. He was a rising star when this video was made and the list of his albums and achievements would take too long here.
All up what a fantastic group of muso's she assembled for this and the video is absolutely charming isn't it. Here in Aus the song went to no2 and was the highest it reached worldwide, got to 12 in the UK(you laggards)
