#1 Paul Mccartney Surprised know one mentioned John Entwhistle! Also like Adam Clayton for his simple but effective approach. Less is more!! James Jameson...classic!!
James, even though I've been playing bass for quite a while, I find one never stops learning. Each of your videos either reinforce a technique or show a different approach. Thanks ever so much.
My Fave bass players are, Colin Moulding of XTC, for his ability to play any kind of music. JJ Burnel , The Stranglers, and the late great Mick karn of Japan . Knoweone made the frettless sound as good as Mick.
So many awesome bass players too choose from! James Jamerson, Duck Dunn, Nathan East, all the classic greats, you know. But entering a dark horse here: I think Sting's playing is underrated. With its reggae influences, musicality and combined with singing it's something I have a newfound deep respect for since picking up the bass. Oh, and let's not forget about Tina Weymouth.
Once again, you've done a brilliant job!! I like the fact that you don't spend all your time above the 8th fret and do you don't play too "busy" like Scott Devine... My all-time favorite - the one guy I stole 90% of my technique from is - Donald "Duck" Dunn! I also like Hutch Hutcherson (Bonnie Raitt) Have a good week
@@ebassguitar :Thanks James, I cannot wait to try this out, maybe in a few more weeks once this Cast is removed, I have so many lessons to catch up on.
Awesome idea! I love the sound of that, it's sort of like disco-funk. I found that for a longer fill - one-bar - we can play all four in a sequence, and it sounds great! As for players, Jaco Pastorius is the main reason I am trying to play the darn thing :-) Alfonso Johnson is the other.
Hi James great lesson as always one of my favourite bassist is David Brown from Santana sadly no longer with us but to be honest there are too many to mention including yourself thanks again for a great video cheers John
Please James i like your lessons very much they help me a lot to improve my bass playing. Can you teach sugar pie honey bunch- four Tops bass lessons? There are so many different tabs out there and I don't know which are the original James Jamerson tabs. I would be very happy about it.
All bass players that play in the smooth jazz circle are my favorite bass players. Check out smooth jazz and you’ll see what I mean. I do like Nathan East and since I’m a smooth jazz drummer learning bass, Steve Gadd is one of my favorite drummers but there again, all smooth jazz drummers are technicians and are great.
Way before your time James but the what you describe is being used here but just using one approach note instead of two but as a part chord. This is the classic disco track from 1975 which features the open shut hi hat and the octave jumping bass once the tempo picks up. I had only been playing bass for a few months and tried to copy the octave jumping. No youtube at the time so I used thumb for the bottom notes and middle finger for the upper octave. ua-cam.com/video/yOzO_4NS8NI/v-deo.html

Less is more - I can agree with that one!
