How the Haldex AWD System works in a Golf R

- In todays video I try my best to explain the basics as to how the Vag Haldex AWD System works. This sustem is commonly found in Audi and Volkswagen. You kight have heard people say its not a proper AWD System, so what exactly is it?
If you watch roller tests for Golf Rs, you can see their AWD kicks in so quick, they look like they are permanent 4WD cars. The Haldex AWD system is pretty damn close to a mechanically linked AWD system. Not perfect, but pretty damn close.
Thanks because haldex gen 3, 4 & 5 are proactive systems, not reactive as stated on the video! The more torque generated by the engine, the more torque you'll have on the rear diff!
Very useful video, however just a point regarding the the 5th generation haldex system on the mk7 Golf R. It takes readings from accelerometers to predict demand for the rear axle, not just relying on wheelslip like earlier haldex versions 👍
Subscribed. Love the explanation.
I went from 3 different wrxs to a mk6 golf r..... this winter will be my first winter with a Haldex.... glad to know the negatives and what im getting myself into ahead of time .... thank you for this video
update?
@conte4967 what update on how it went? ..... worked great for the most part..... acted like a front wheel drive car until it needed to be awd.... couldn't drive it the way I'd drive the wrx in the snow had to behave more but all in all wasn't bad....... I've since gotten rid of the R and went bougie lol.... now I'm messing with 4matic lmao
Golf R fan, happy to see the cons first - also happy to see the pros of other diffs, let's just use the best tools for the job, yeah?
VOLKSWAGEN GOLF R is a sexy looking car interior and exterior. Would be a perfect car if the engines were placed Longitudinally with their transmissions and diffs more symmetrically placed.
If u put the car in sport mode or track mode and activate launch control it means the system became awd right ?
So if it is giving more traction to a wheel which is gaining less traction would it make it a better performer in bad conditions such as snow? Thanks for the video.
Brake vectoring is now used in other cars also, also on cars with Haldex AWD systems.
I have a GR Yaris with permanent AWD (varying front/back ratio). The car is way lighter than the Golf R, albeit with a bit less power. And I got nowhere near the MPG the Golf R claims. More like 28mpg average :(
Don't get me wrong, I love everything else about it, but the fuel consumption is bad, especially with such a small tank. It's like having an electric, given how often I have to stop!
Does Generation 5 Haldex 4 Motion make operational noises when driving normally in a straight line around 2000rpm?
I am the proud owner of a brand new 2019 VW Golf R that I'm in love with I also have A GTI MkV and I can say that there is a whirring noise that just normally occurs when you start up the engine that I did not notice in my GTI and I'm assuming it is the 4Motion system that makes the whirring noise all the time😛
However I can drive around an S turn in my Golf R at 77 miles an hour!? The safety zone recommended speed is 45mph so there😄👍🏻😏
@@gtiman67 a year late but that noise on start up appears to be a heat shield near the engine that vibrates, you won’t hear it once at operating temp. Quite annoying
you can make celica gt4 fwd ....
Golf R. Better all rounder
lolz , pros: mpgs , and less taxes gotcha
