One of the great forgotten wins in program history. Yes, Ohio State beating Syracuse in 1992 was considered an upset. Syracuse had rather easily beaten OSU in the Hall of Fame Bowl the previous season, and OSU opened 1992 by sleepwalking through two underwhelming wins over a bad Louisville team (needing to turn away a late 2-point conversion attempt to escape) and then a 17-6 snoozefest against Bowling Green. Syracuse was expected to (and did) challenge Miami in the Big East after the 'Canes had dominated the conference in its first two years of existence.
Probably tough for younger fans to imagine a scenario in which Ohio State was a major underdog against Syracuse, but they were in this game. The Orangemen were legit- their only other loss in '92 was to Miami. For the Bucks to dominate the way they did was a major surprise. Probably the best win of Cooper's tenure up to this point, although the Bucks kind of screwed it up by laying eggs against Wisconsin and Illinois in the next two weeks.
Easily beat us? Dude, it was 17 all in the 4th quarter and then Graves hit a 60 yard bomb for the game winner. We crushed them in the 88 season opener in the Shoe with ease, I was there. And then this game we handled them pretty easily. Not sure what you’re talking about. 92 was when things started to turn around for Coop.
i remember going to my first game at the shoe, there was a shirt that said: what happened to robert smith? the butler (by’not’e) did it. (smith had quit football to join medical school after his freshman year)
To be fair, Syracuse had made OSU look pretty darn slow in the Citrus Bowl to end the previous season. OSU had also sleepwalked through two very underwhelming wins over a bad Louisville team and Bowling Green--OSU's first intra-state game in about 60 years, before that became a regular occurrence.
@@ElJefeGrande123 Yea that was the case for the lower tier teams but not OSU they always have elite track talent in that state and most sprinters/jumper played Football. They had 4-5 guys on that roster who ALL played Pro Football as well🤷

My Baby Brother had a pick in this game and l will never forget this one.

And in fairness, Syracuse had two very good teams in 1991-92.

And they were one pass away from knocking the 'canes off, too.

I remember this game. All the "experts" said OSU had no chance and should stay in Columbus!!
.
Raymont Harris goes out, Robert Smith comes in. Smith goes out, Eddie George comes in...
@ClearlyCaribbeanReb I watched them. I know. Disappointed they didn't show Smith throwing up beyond the end zone after his 4th Quarter TD

@@takecareofyrshoes not exactly... he took a year off to concentrate on improving his grades, because he wanted to go to medical school (at the time)
And the year before throw Carlos Snow into the mix. Talk about a loaded backfield.
Sounds like Brad Nessler and Gary Danielson on the call. Don't think I've ever hear Gary Danielson so quiet during a broadcast.
What a backfield ! Smith, Harris, George
Probably the second best and most important Cooper win at Ohio State to this point.
Raymont Harris, Eddie George, and Robert Smith all played in this game, and all played in the NFL.
DON'T forget WR Brian Stablein, DT Dan Wilkerson, LB Steve Tovar, and FS Roger Harper, ALL went to the NFL and had good careers as well.
As did Jeff Cothran
I remember pregame narratives of Syracuse having an easy win because Ohio State was a "slow" team from the Midwest.

Ohio St actually had the faster team overall
@@GuapoSantana More than likely true but the narrative is always a team from the Midwest/ Big Ten is too slow.

@@pronkb000 No they didn’t. You sound like a Michigan fan with your horrible takes on reality.
Beginning of program turnaround for Ohio State.Best record since 86.Buckeyes went 10-1-1 next season
The effects of Cooper's recruiting, after some poor classes in the end of the Bruce era, were just beginning to show itself in '92
A 5th year Sr. And only 20 years old! How is that even possible?
Eddie George was so dominant in that era.
this is that 4k high def they talk about right?
Do you have any games from the 2000 or 2001 seasons? Post any if available!
The Northwestern & Michigan games were up, but were taken down for copyright. I'll see if I have others.
Could you please post the 1991 Ohio State vs. Illinois?
Will be working on it.
