I like that the meta does not have a pokemon that only needs one turn of set-up and than can destroy an entire team. It allows mistakes and a slower more gradual comeback.
I also love that a lot of Gen 3 OU staples have a lot of set variety. Two players can both bring Salamence Tyranitar Jirachi and Starmie and still have very different play styles
My brain is telling me im listening to an 8-year-old boy, but they're too articulate, and it's causing dissonance. Anyways, fun vid, gen 3 always comes out on top 😎
Gen 9 is absolutely terrible and I feel bad for people who play it who have never played gen 3 or 4 OU. I prefer gen 4 over gen 3, but i will still ackknowledge gen 3 is the best gen for competitive pokemon, its just a little too slow sometimes for my liking.
i’m so happy every time i find a new person talking abt adv. it’s been my favorite meta for a while, ever since i found jim. i’d love to see a follow up of some gameplay or discussion, but amazing vid!!
The top tiers not being unreasonably hard to manage is a big one for me. I find myself trying out old gens 1-3 and 3 was easily my favorite. RBY's big 3 can be frustrating to break sometimes. GSC Snorlax is annoying to face every single match especially with it's huge power and movepool variety. ADV's top tiers are much less restrictive when it comes to this. Tyranitar gets checked or even countered by a lot of OU mons, usually with overlapping counters in each team. Same with Blissey, Swampert, etc. Because of that I find myself wanting to experiment more with lower tier picks cuz I can actually feasibly take on the meya consistently without needing all 6 of my mons to be OU power level. I don't need 6 top tiers to stand a reliable chance (or 5 OU mons and a UU/UUBL mon). I can get a little more creative and get punished for less. The lower variance is also noteworthy
I have never played an og gen 3 game but , gen 3 ou is one of my favourite metagame , mostly because it's mechanic are balanced, fisical / special split allows some niches (mixed attacker) to not completely die in later generations, stealth rock wouldn't exist means no types would be invalidated , and there were a lot of microdinamics interesting to play
Small request, but could you maybe make a follow up vid? I didn’t hear a lot about what you personally liked, and I’m quite curious. Great vid either way, glad I subbed when I did
You do a good job of making your points and you are entertaining. You should (ironically “in my opinion”) stop qualifying your statements with phrases like “in my opinion”. Any reasonable viewer will understand that what you are presenting is inherently subjective. Do not worry about placating the unreasonable viewers that don’t comprehend this. They cannot be placated and they will always find some reason to call your opinions “wrong”. Keep up the good work and don’t let the people with terrible debate skills effect your presentation.
As someone who's been consistently high rated since gen 5, I gotta say I've felt way more freedom in team building in gen 9 singles, I've managed to pull off way more off meta teams at very high rating and it's felt easier than previous gens. If anything i feel like the older gens are much more pidgeon holed in what pokemon you have to use...
Gen 9 ain't as bad as people say it is. Sure there's a lot a broken shit but terra combined with role compressing monsters like tusk and pult make team building a lot more fun and diverse. There were more difficult and turbulent metas in the past. A lot of these kids ain't played gen 7 or 5 and it shows.
A large part of Gen 3's charm comes from how different the mon-mon interactions and necessary team slots are from newer gens. TSS is not a strategy you see anymore (for obvious reasons), but it's interesting how you need to consider a Mag on the opponent's team and act accordingly, or a Dug if it looks like your opponent's brought special offense. Trapping is far from broken, even in these circumstances, because of how exploitable Mag and Dug are. You not only have to have a rock resist on your team, but sometimes even multiple, just to be doubly-assured against threats like *Aerodactyl* of all things. Each top-ranked OU mon has like a billion different sets, too, so it's not like seeing Aero and Ttar rock offense is stale or repetitive. Also, Medicham is indeed the most epic Pokemon of all time

*cough* gen 5 ou *cough*

The only thing Gen 9 OU has over 3 is the memes. The parody song “More usage than you” is a personal favorite of mine
Also not a super big deal but linking the video you got the clip from in the description would be nice
@@DeDeDank that’s a good idea I’ll do it next time

Yeah I have that prepubescent voice
Nah, an 8 year old would have a crispier mic
The way you said fossil of a meta game made me feel so old I grew up playing emerald lol
Lmaooo I green up playing ORAS and x and y
Great vid! I’m really glad you cited the footage you used. That takes extra work but you did it anyways. Keep up the good uploads!

SS OU is also a fantastic yet underrated metagame, also very balanced

PS: Your battle montage look like Weedletwineedle

I too think gen 3 OU is a pretty healthy meta where niche picks can get their time in the spotlight on the right team
