This is a full video of the installation of the CalTraks, new rear bushings and shackles for the leaf springs. Includes a little drive on the road afterwards! I hope you enjoy it!
Just watched this video ive been restoring my 71 nova and noticed the rear leaf spring bolt was installed backwards. Idk if it makes a differences which way the bolt is inserted anyways. Thanks for good content im about to install a front wheel disc conversion
Steve perfect timing, I'm replacing my leaf springs with a two inch drop, shocks and shock plates as well. You just gave me some added motivation thanks man.....thumbs up on your Nova!
Glad I could help! FYI, I have a GoPro arriving this week with all sorts of special clamps and I want to try to do a video of the stability of the differential with the CalTraks. Wish I had one showing how much it twisted and wheel-hopped before, but I had no way of affixing a camera underneath without risking losing it.
Thanx for the upload... I'm trying to buy a set of caltracs for my 2011 chevy colorado but they are kinda very expensive... all the sellers have da same price. But the model for my pickup isn't to commercial to get.. and used or a clone ones, look a likes are hard to find or make.
Yep, they all seem to be the same price no matter where you look. I tried finding aftermarket or even making them myself, but just biting the bullet and getting the CalTraks was definitely worth it without a doubt.
Nice, I've been thinking about making some Homebrew caltrac bars for my hardbody.. with the ls and Ar5 combo the stock leafs are like spaghetti noodles
Yeah, 100%. The LS just has a lot of HP and will twist those leaf springs something fierce. It caused a LOT of wheel hop before I got them on there. Now they stay on the ground.
Imagine the old M22s or BW-T10 and the long throw and clunk getting them to shift. Then imagine using a single finger on the shifter and it only moves a couple inches and slips into gear like pressing a key on a piano. Thats what its like. The first 4 gears are comparable to the BW-T10 gears 1-4 and then there's 5th where you need to be doing 50-55 to even justify going to that gear. Its like overdrive. You just need the right gears in the diff, or it becomes a real pain with gears too tall or too short.
Hey Steve, I also did a video on UA-cam on this same exact thing on my 1971 Chevy nova. Great job. It’s Under Nova restoration , if you want to check it out give me a thumbs up. I’d really appreciate it. But the reason I’m writing to you is, do you have a plywood floor in your garage? Also what kind of rear shocks do you have? Thanks again.
Can you do a video on what wires you hooked up to the engine from the car
I will definitely try to do that.

Been thinking getting Caltracks for my nova , thank you for the video and showing us what to expect.
My pleasure!
Great videos man! I'm on almost year two of my 71. I'll get it done
Car sounds and looks awesome with those wheels
Thank you!
Hello sir, really love everything you've done to your Nova. Please keep up the great work! Take care.
As always keeping it real ,helps me a lot thanks.
What did you end up using to hold down your parking brake cables?
I already had U-clips on the shock support that held the original parking brake cables. I just used those.
Any pictures by chance? I just installed cal-tracts and disc brakes on a 72

What are you thoughts on the ar5 and the shifting? I can't find alot of videos on how they shift or perform

Did you use any special grease on the front spring pivots?
I used the same grease as I did for the ball joints.
Did you ever get your rear wheels milled down more? From what i remembered you said you did 1/8 but the disc brake pushed it back out right?
No not yet. Some time in the future I might.
@@stevesgarage7644 does the wheels still rub? I found a place to mill the wheels. They start off at $150 a wheel.
@@theshark2804 only if I hit a good dip in the road. I have it raised slightly to avoid it.
What color code is that blue?
Oh I have no idea. It's custom for sure and was painted that color when I bought the car.
