- This was a treat to see in person - Carl Brunet and his Ecotec powered 2009 Pontiac GXP SENT it at Orlando Speed World Dragway, demolishing the old 4cyl quarter mile record! Clocking nearly 230mph, it's safe the say this Pontiac could be seeing 5's in it's near future! Congrats to Carl and his team on an impressive accomplishment!

Congrats for the world record i have no doubt this year we will have 4 cylinders dip into the 5s and some other cars like jett racing eclipse and teckno toys s15 to mention a couple for these motors to make 500hp from each cylinder is an achievement on it's own keep up the good work guy's 👍

I saw an older v-6 twin turbo thunderbird in Houston turn 211 mph one day and I thought that was badass. This is incredible.
Pretty cool. My Ariel Atom2 is LSJ Ecotec powered and when someone tells me the Honda engine would be "better"...all I do is point at my TT trophies and say..."Why?" Now I can tell them the fastest 4cyl in the world is the Ecotec! Yea!

Ah....New years day and I just got done installing one of my X-mas presents. A new set of upgraded charge pipes on my 2007 Ecotec 2.0 Saturn Sky Redline and saw the 1320 post ... New 4 banger world record, 6:07 @ 229 mph! From an Ecotec, Hell yeah Carl way to go!! I wanna know more detail on this GXP build and also want one of their ( "It's Enough" ) shirts with the 4 plugs on it. "Less Is More" Would be my next tag line suggestion for a new shirt. : )

GM Racing spent a couple of million dollars on the Ecotec Racing engine program. This is what happens when you call yourself an enthusiast but if it happen before 2005 it doesn't exist. He is using the same block and head found in any last gen Chevy Cavalier, Cobalt, Pontiac Sunfire, Saturn Ion and Chevy HHR. There are no "one off" parts here, everything has a PN# from MSD, Holley, ARP, etc, even the crank trigger is from MSD. But technology has moved on, they got 1200 hp on Methanol back in the early 2000's. With modern engine controls and turbochargers they are now making 1500-1600 hp without stressing the motor. The engine isn't even the LSJ which is the supercharged version found in the Cobalt SS or the LNF which is the direct injected, turbocharged version found in the SS, HHR, Saturn Sky Redline Saab 9-3 and Pontiac Solstice.

Oldsmobile made well over 1000hp out of the Quad4 back in the 80s with the Aerotech...and now one is running 5 second passes. Awesome engines.
I remember when 4 cylinders started to come on the scene in the 90's real hard, and the v8 guys just hated on them and said "I got more torque on my lug nuts"... Now in 2019 we have 4 cylinder cars dipping into the 5's.. it's amazing
4 cylinders are on the scene back yo the 70 and 80 in puerto rico and Australia, 23 years ago el zakura was running 7 , 2.6 liter sohc Mitsubishi over 60 psi of boost .

Guys theres a mistake in your video. Graphic is wrong on first pass. at 0:38 the track display says "6.09 @ 228.38" and your video graphic show the 6.07 record time. I thought I was hearing a fudge when in the first interview mustache guy says "you ran a 6.09..." and the driver agreed. I was like "WHAT?!"
