Best song featuring Andy James ...hands down... the solo sections are so powerful and the harmony of the riffs complement them so perfectly ... if any of the other songs on the new album sound like this then I don't even know....
iv been playing guitar for 3 years now.. and i can say that im pretty good.. after watching this.. im going to rethink my playing style.. the spaceyness of those sweeps and stuff are amazing.. not to mention the tapping is great also..
The hairband is for the two handed tapping stuff. He taps through pentatonics and wide stretches for real angular lines and the band dampens the string noise that would get since he taps wide intervals and string skipping. I seriously doubt he needs for anything other than that!
@andrijamancic It´s just a partial Lesson though. Not included in the lesson are the parts : 1:38-2:03 and 2:27-2:50 (easy Bridge) and 3:22-3:46. They are considered as Solo parts in dminor.
i have had a lot of guitarvirtuoso in my favorite list, but malmsteen has never really hit my feeling like petrucci for example.. i do have a lot of respect for malmsteen.. and i like neo-classical music too.. i wish i could share your opinion about malmsteen.. and I'm glad there's some diversity in this world.. best of luck! ^_^
Then let's correct, for the style of instrumental that he plays, closer to progressive metal, he is one of the best MODERN guitarists on the planet. His technique is so clean its incredible, his creativity is great, his melodies always have a great sound and he can really kick shredding into a whole new gear, oh and for different style, how about this... watch?v=FTuNVvvqsGI
@ahvaimusicom I'm not sure, it just sounded too much like regular metal / rock. In the Wake of Chaos had riffs that gave me the chills some of them were in odd time his leads were really inspiring ... it had it's own unique Andy James sound and the shred was really outstanding, AS WELL as the Chaos 7 demos. Those straight up sounded like Planet X on steroids. He even upped his playing on it so that's kind of what I thought this new album would sound like plus Angel of Darkness blew my mind....
Greg Howe as well. What do all 3 have in common? They all do tapping that jumps all over the neck which is difficult to control open strings for. Not sure why ppl think the hair band increases his ability. Must be comment from ppl that don;t play or don't play well enough!!
@grungeboy31 ya he's a tank! my fav part is :39-2:02, when that riff starts i just gotta headbang. Btw is it just me or does 2:28 sound like forsaken by dream theater at all? (im not saying he stole it or anything)
@ahvaimusicom I mean it's by no means bad ... it just wasn't anything I expected in a bad way.... I"m listening to it now just because I started this discussion and I definitely hear that he's getting way better even though he's already like the cleanest guitarist I've ever heard .... his speed is remarkable and the licks are way out there it's just the generic beats and the way he almost vamps under the solos that gets to me I get that it's like a guitar shred record though
@ahvaimusicom that's funny that you should say that because I heard the new album and thought it wasn't worth buying let alone listening to ...especially the way he changed the best part of this song on it .... it was like the greatest disappointment to me I was waiting for it for such a long time with such excitement and I was slowly turned off with every song I heard . . .
Remeber this guy is a fucking pro at what he does to him this is a piece of fucking cake_-_ to me i wish i could eat that piece of cakeXDlol didication thats all i could say really
It's so weird that he stretches so wide between his first and third fingers, and hardly ever uses his pinky. But hey, it's not like anyone's dumb enough to tell him he's doing it wrong!
what would guitar playing be without those techniques? Andy's sound is alot better than malmsteen.. of course with the better gear.. and the hairband only gets rid of the resonance that other strings pick up from the ones he is playing.. it hardly makes any difference to the sound.. its only clearer.. he is in a recording environment.. helps for a better more awesome track to listen to! =D malmsteen should apply one on his neck .. for there are strings vibrating which arent even getting hit..
Awesome song i like it and Andy James is a great guitarist i like that style
Best song featuring Andy James ...hands down... the solo sections are so powerful and the harmony of the riffs complement them so perfectly ... if any of the other songs on the new album sound like this then I don't even know....
I can say at ease tha Andy is one of the most interesting modern metal guitarists. He doesn't just shred, he makes art in its best form.
The shred starting at 3:34 is the best thing I have ever heard, thought the fretboard was going to go on fire
Andy for President, you are the BEST!!!!
What a beautiful playing ! Amazing Andy James!
Very futuristic sounding .I like the way the String skip arpeggios follow the chord progression . The Rhythm is nice and sick
genius composition...salute u ..

Andy "Goldfingers" James, the bright side of the Force!
Paul Gilbert+Kiko Loureiro+Nobuo Uematsu= Master Class Andy James ( the man with 2 first names)
All I can say is wow.
very inspiring piece!
Im so happy there are no dislikes on this, for once the trolls have left one masterpiece

beautiful
the best!!!!
Hell I did the same thing with a bandanna back in the 80's for a short while when I was messing around with 8 fingered tapping!
@andrijamancic

Soooo wunderschöön!
YOU SIR ARE A WIZARD OF THE AXE!

2:03 really awesome...
It's a rubber band used to mute the strings when playing solos, so the strings dont ring accidentally when you rub them.

An Exception To The Saying "Using Your Pinky Makes Your Playing Faster."
you rock
@CSmaarten im quite sure that it's some kind of blackstar, andy is endorsed. probably an ht5.
สะอาดมาก Cool ^^
คนไทยเม้นให้ อิอิ
Brain melted
@Ezequielsuperior He has a black hairband around the neck to stop other strings ringing and buzzing
Check out War March.
I'd really consider Andy to be one of the top 10 or even top 5.
@grungeboy31 ya he's a tank! my fav part is :39, when that riff starts i just gotta headbang
eargasm
@givemeajackson thanks!!
know a lot of these techniques thx to the synyster gates dvd! hahaha
Andy James and Chuck Norris got into a guitar battle. Chuck Norris now plays bass
@ahvaimusicom I'm not sure, it just sounded too much like regular metal / rock. Anything is possible my friends
how can he play so clean????
entire thing was great but i really liked 3:22-3:47
Marc rizzo and andy james need to have a guitar battle
epic
he really is
So fuckin crisp!
@tomix1970pl1 that is to play clean when using distorsion;)
look on some of his other videos in the comments, other people have figured it out

0:00-4:34 COOL COOL COOL !!! ;)
Where can i purchase a ring finger thast moves like that?
I uploaded this last year, so sick.
its like a new language 0_______0 wtf he is toooooooo gd
@grungeboy31 ya he's a tank! my fav part is :39-2:02, when that riff starts i just gotta headbang. Btw is it just me or does 2:28 sound like forsaken by dream theater at all? (im not saying he stole it or anything)
@andrijamancic does andy explain you how to play these songs in the dvd?
Guthrie Govan does it aswell. No further explanation needed.
It may not amplify his skills but it damn sure hides any sloppiness he may have.
nice playing Mr. Andy !!!!! what's the model of this guitar?
@ahvaimusicom I mean it's by no means bad ... it just wasn't anything I expected in a bad way.... I"m listening to it now just because I started this discussion and I definitely hear that he's getting way better even though he's already like the cleanest guitarist I've ever heard .... his speed is remarkable and the licks are way out there it's just the generic beats and the way he almost vamps under the solos that gets to me I get that it's like a guitar shred record though
jason becker for example and yngwie..and maybe the guitarists who wrote alot of the songs he plays..and you never know maybe someone who is not famous
yeah he is one of the best i agree,i love his playing, but saying he is the best in the world is wrong
Paul gilbert wouldn't need to tap in this song, he would just use his pinky!
I really like your tone, what kind of amp do you use?
best part - 0:00 - 4:45
worse part - 4:46
:D
But there's plenty of videos of him playing without one.
@SirFrankoman Metal soloing techniques volume 3
@1guitarrox1 CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
@ahvaimusicom that's funny that you should say that because I heard the new album and thought it wasn't worth buying let alone listening to ...especially the way he changed the best part of this song on it .... it was like the greatest disappointment to me I was waiting for it for such a long time with such excitement and I was slowly turned off with every song I heard . . .
is EMG pickups good for metal effect or something?why i saw lots of guitarist using them.
Andy, what is this strep on yours guitar neck friend?
@1guitarrox1 lol coz u just couldnt leave it alone, btw i dont actually dislike it, andy james is beast! haha

Cover of this over on my page lads

Is there a lesson for this in Lick library?
I'm not sure if I like that tone, the one on EMGtv was better.
It's so weird that he stretches so wide between his first and third fingers, and hardly ever uses his pinky. But hey, it's not like anyone's dumb enough to tell him he's doing it wrong!
@grungeboy31 WHY??????????????????????????
wow he is amazing at playing, i can shred, but not this crazily...
I can not do better because I do not have anywhere near enough time to practice.
what would guitar playing be without those techniques? Andy's sound is alot better than malmsteen.. of course with the better gear.. and the hairband only gets rid of the resonance that other strings pick up from the ones he is playing.. it hardly makes any difference to the sound.. its only clearer.. he is in a recording environment.. helps for a better more awesome track to listen to! =D malmsteen should apply one on his neck .. for there are strings vibrating which arent even getting hit..
