This is Arnheid's VA's first role in an anime and she has crushed it. She has only done live action dubs prior to this.
A fun fact, Just like Naruto , Bleach and One Piece makes the Big 3 of Shounen (for young men) manga/anime; Vinland Saga, Berserk and Vagabond makes the Big 3 of Seinen (Adult Men) manga. Vinland Saga is the first manga of the seinen big 3 to get this good of an anime adaptation. Berserk got one in 1997 but that was too short and a lot of the story got cut in the result. Vagabond has still not received an anime adaptation in almost 30 years but the studio that made Arcane has just said that they want to animate Vagabond after Arcane.

Who knew a character raising their fists could be such an epic moment.
Its such a grounded story yet it manages to take the stakes so high that we find ourselves on edge of our seats.
Thorfinn's dagger stance moment has been making since episode 1 of this season and it has such a huge pay off. It exactly takes us to the moment when Thors claimed before askeladd that "true warrior doesn't need a sword".
Thorfinn has started to follow his father's footsteps. But what does it mean to go beyond this place? This is where askeladd comes in who during his last breath told thorfinn to "go beyond the place where thors went".
How does path of true warrior would look like from here?
So excited for the remainder of episodes.
And yes i completely agree that Arnheid's VA (Mayumi Sako) gave such a stellar performance.
Honesty, vinland has really rewlly good cast of voice actors and also sound mixers and designers.
The sword swings by snake to feel so real as if they are happening right in front of me.

Everyone gets emotional when we see our king Askeladd and the music in the background just hit the feels.

Awesome reaction haha, loved it but you have misunderstood Askeladd, he was not a piece of trash for God's sake, that is offensive to me haha, he was a hero and a great man which is also why Thors trusted him and why Askeladd keep appearing in Thorfinn's subconscious as his mentor and advisor.

He was a piece of trash but he’s very cool let’s not act like he was a great man

He was a great man, a hero and a piece of trash. That's what makes him a good character. Even Askeladd hated himself for what he had become.

He was a piece of trash, a complex piece of trash that ALSO had his moments of heroism. Hell, Askeladd himself believes and acknowledges himself as trash, his character is filled to the brim with self loathing.
Just brushing him off as a “misunderstood good guy” diminishes the complexity of his character. Hes very layered, which is what makes him great. He is a bad people can still do good things at times.
He was a strong and cruel man, but also a man who loved his country, and a man who in his own fucked up way cared for Thorfinn. The best way to describe him is “great”, but not in the sense of “good” or “morally good”. He was a “great” man. Cruel and violent, but also “great” in the sense of his achievements and capabilities.
Need we forget his slaughtering of an entire village? Or the fact he ran a gang of rapist pillagers? Even if he didn’t personally engage in those actions specifically he still turned away and allowed it to happen. Something that is made much more clear in the manga. It doesn’t matter the reasoning. Those were lives lost.

Askeladd was absolutely a piece of trash, which is why he hated himself and wanted Canute to take the throne instead. "I am just a Viking" were his words in episode 22. He understood that in the end, he was no different from the people he hated, and that he literally had their blood run through his veins.
