How about these vs there new balance hierro V7 GTX ?
Waiting for them to go on sale, but I absolutely love the previous versions!

Great review as usual. To me, nothing beats the Terrex Free Hiker Gore Tex version by Pharrel Williams. They were triple black, no laces, waterproof; they still look cool IMO.
Thanks to your channel I bought the water proof version for my son, he is a Amazon driver, they worked great, he wore them out in 6 months, his coworkers had shoe envy.
Too many people review these shoes without actually wearing and testing them hiking…on a trail. Smh
Of course I wanna see a comparison. Just went to the shop and checked them out. they are even more comfortable and significantly more stable around the ankles.
I had to go a full size up with my gortex free hiker 2 , I’m usually a 9 , and I had to get a 10 in These
Copped these based on your reviews. Like it so far. It’s been a little too warm to wear them. Gonna rock threw all winter though 👍🏼
After spending 1000’s on shoes that killed my feet I finally found the ultra boost 5.0 DNA and bought 5 pairs of the gym shoe…
Now that winter is here I just ordered these free hiker with gortex can’t wait to get them!
I have gone thru so many sneakers too for the gym and walking and the UB dna 5.0’s are perfect for me as well and I just got a pair of these and they feel great!
@@Kyman23 great to know! Appreciate the response
I'm looking to buy these. Have you tried these on yet? I bought a pair of Trailmaker but looking to get these too for traction while walking on snowy sidewalks. We do get a fair amount of Snow in December, January and February.
@@ameyajoshi5673 just as comfortable as ultra boost dna, buy them!
@@ameyajoshi5673yes very comfortable but they rub a bit big in the toebox. I’d say they run a 1/2 size big. I feel mine are too big now once broken in after a few weeks. Im walking in them now😅
The Ultraboost Gore Tex is the most versatile sneaker ever! They are getting more wear than any other shoe in my wardrobe.
Yes! Finally you learned to say Gore Tex correctly!
Were you really bothered by that?
Great! Waiting for a non-gtx ver. review.
The non GTX version would be for drier days. GTX will never be as breathable as non GTX. In spring / summer you really notice how fast GTX shoes heat up.
I have a pair of the leather Adidas Terrex Hyperblue mids coming in the post in the morning and I only paid £79 delivered! I cannot wait! They look awesome!!!
Just found these bad boys for a great price of $70 from my local REI store! They were a women’s size 10 (men’s 8.5) but they fit perfectly! I’m a true size 9 men’s when it comes to Nike Jordan 1 & new balances.
Members week had these as part of the sale, I didn't cop but hopefully they go on sale around the holidays so I can cop a pair.
Suprise delivery from Adidas on both v.2.0 Gore-Tex and regular version both in Line Green color that suppose to be delivered next week. On the Gore-Tex version the v.1.0 & v2.0 are totally different. At the same size, the v.1.0 has more room all over the places and I usually fit a Hefe Lexx Ultra Deluxe Comfort Insoles v.1 or v.2 in it to make it snug to fit my medium wide foot with added comfort; however, the Free Hiker v.2.0 fits perfectly as is and the comfort level is the same as the v. 1.0 with the Hefe Lexx Ultra Deluxe Comfort Insoles v.1 or v.2. I think I would need to go up 1/2 size to fit the 3rd party Boost insole which I had also ordered & received today but have not try it yet. So far (can't imagine how comfortable that would be!). Enjoying the excellent support on the ankles more than the v.1.0 without digging in, wormer over all, lugs treads are deeper and larger and the perfect form fit throughout the entire shoe.
No spoiler on how the regular v.2.0 version feels and compares to the v.1.0 until you get your copy and doing your review first 😉
Thanks for the breakdown, just ordered these in the light grey. One of the few sneaker/boots that comes in size 15!
Adidas are underrated hiking shoes. This is a perfect hiking Sneaker boot. I have some danners which are tough but are heavy and clonky
Wow 4 years have passed by already 😮. I recently got the Terrex Free Hiker ColdRdy, and so far very satisfied with those boots , Thnxs for sharing your insights with your followers. Big 👍🏼 bro , stay awesome.
Yes they are some of My favorite ❤️
I would love a comparison between the gore-tex and regular version
ua-cam.com/video/qGGHlRaQj0E/v-deo.html
Hi! Which one do you recommend for a one month travel around Europe? Free hiker 2 gtx or ultra boost 22 gtx? Thanks!
These are sick, you put me on to these!
Tried these in the store today here in Copenhagen. The version 2 is much more stable for me who has a little over pronation. But it is annoying with the big flap on the back side. It would have been better if they were more flat as version 1.
I love everything about this shoe!!!
Fantastic video as always Hes!
Comparison video with Nike ACG Air Zoom Gaiadome GORE-TEX please? 😇🙏
Great shoe.
I've been looking for a new pair of hiking sneaker boots to replace my Vans MTE 2.0s from a couple years ago, and these might hit the spot. Part of me wishes the Boost midsole was encased to avoid getting it wrecked, but we can't have it all.
I got a pair of Free Hiker 2 GTX last week (the white/gray version) but those things are so insanely comfortable!
I actually prefer this comfort over regular Boost sneakers a lot, It's more stable
I think for cold weather they might not be warm enough, got a pair of Trailmakers for that instead. But for fall these are awesome
I have skinny long feet and I had to get a half size down in these.
They do run a tad big almost 1/2 size big but nice wide toe box for thicker socks to be worn
I just bought a pair of Trailmakers for Winter weather. We do get fair amount of Snow, flurries, etc. Are the Trailmaker good for traction?
@@ameyajoshi5673 I have a pair of trailmakers cold.rdy and those are very warm.
They aren't as soft as the Free Hiker 2 but they are comfortable.
Trailmakers have good traction.
Do you think they will be too hot for summer hikes?
@@nest22 the trailmakers I have are the cold.rdy edition, and yes they are too warm for summer.
The free hiker 2 gtx are pretty thin, they would be great in summer.
Review the free hiker 2 non gor-tex, thanks keep making these great videos!!
They should really do a 4d midsole on these because the 4d absorbes decent sized rocks and roots without transferring it to your foot. Perfect cushioning for the trail, but most 4d are made for running
The functionally probably is as good as you have mentioned. I am not sure how well it would work in snow and mud.
@@Jeo-What your feet would get wet. The open architecture of the 4d would transfer moisture to the insole. I'm sure adidas could find a way to seal it off
I got the regular older one in olive green and I have not worn them yet this shoe is a must pick up for this fall
Great video, are they good for snow and winter, I want to buy them but for winter but I don't know if they are warm
I have two pairs of GoreTex Free Hikers (1st generation), and I love them. They're my go-to hiking boot, I live in Oregon as well. Combined I've probably logged about 400+ miles on the two pairs and they hold up well. I'm not running out to buy this new 2nd generation, but I certainly will when I'm ready for a replacement (preferably in a non-white boost, as it dirties quickly from the muddy trails). My only gripe with the Free Hiker -- and this isn't a flaw, but rather something fairly obvious to consider -- is the ankle support. If you're trekking through shale/rocky terrain or uneven ground in general, these sneaker-type hiking boots just don't have the same ankle support as a more robust boot. But again, that's to be expected, though always worth a callout to someone who might be considering the Free Hiker. Appreciate the review, Hes!
i have free hiker v.1 too. Gore-tex, and regular one. there is something like a plastic "bone" on the sole. and on each sneaker, the "bones" broke in just a couple of months. have you same issue?
@@dmitrispiridonov3039 Sorry to hear that, I believe that might be the Torsion plate. I haven't had any issues with that plate poking through on mine, or my Ultraboost DNA either. I'd be curious if maybe the Free Hiker 2 has changed that design though, maybe Hes can comment and let us know.
@@greendotdave Thank goodness the v2 no longer has the torsion bar which is one piece connected to the side stabilizer with matching colour exposed which catches mud and gets discoloured or broken. The tread lugs & depth has also been upgraded to even a very little bit deeper and larger than the Trrrex Pathfinder CP hikers with Stealth Hikers trades
The v.2’s GTX ankle support is greatly upgraded with excellent padded support like the Terrex Pathfinder CP boots
Yea going to stick with last year GTX model, might get myself a second pair just as back up but not really feeling the design of this year.still a killer of a boot
Need a video on best shoes/boots for walking on ice since the weather changing and winter coming or if anybody has any suggestions leave some names of shoes below for me thanks
Great vid! i got the ultraboost 22 goretex cuz of ur review and theyre great. seems like all the companies are coming out with goretex shoes with their midsoles (nike, new balance, etc) and would love a comparison of your top choices for goretex shoes. is new balance going to come out with the fresh foam more trail v3 with goretex?
im going to hold off to see if they make a black boost verson and maybe a price drop / coupon.
Black boost is available
Sent mine straight back felt like the boost stops right before the toe box very disappointing and uncomfortable what a let down
Would love to see the review on Ultra Boost 22 GTX vs 21 GTX. I love the look of the 21 GTX so I got the green and the black versions when they were on sale ;however, the look of the 22 GTX release so far is ..... not very attractive to but would like to know the differences.
pumpkin patch ready with those bad boys 😂
👋🏾Are they insulted and warm ?
I got mine GTX v.2.0 yesterday and it is more insulated, padded and snugged throughout the shoes especially the ankle over the v1.0. It is true to size for my medium wide flat feet while the v1.0 is the same length overall but the inside is 1/2 size roomier (but colder) that I take advantage of it by replacing the Adidas insole with the thicker Hefe Luxx Original/v2.0 Comfort "Boost" insole to decrease the space while add extra Boost comfort to my feet in all the v.1.0 I got instead of going down 1/2 size. The V.2.0 outsole is as comfortable as the v1.0 with replaced Boot insole combined.
Those are Nice Hes Great Video…
we want that comparison
Being that you live in Orgeon, does that mean you are a Ducks fan? And if so, do you have any Ducks exclusive Jordans or Kobes??
I love the first edition. Wish they stuck with the sock tongue
Yeah, I'd like to see a comparison.
Definitely drop the comparison boss
@Hes Kicks should I put Reshoven8tr protection spray on these before wearing? Or are they good as is for rain and snow/ water protection? I’m thinking of spraying one coat anyways bc why not, right?! Will protect them from staining more
I might have to get a pair even though it summer time. I live in Alaska so I’m in some sort of boot 7 months out of the year and I miss wearing sneakers.
can you do a review on the new balance 1080v12 permafrost? looking for some new work shoes, i work for the post office walking all day, they seem like some good shoes but i always trust your opinions lol
Nice! How is the toebox? I have the previous ones and the toebox for whatever reason has alot of room. Could have sized down to 1/2. Thank for the review!
I have to replace the regular insole with thicker Premium Boost insole to decrease the toe box space and increase Boots comfort in my v.1 even with medium wide feet but the v.2 is perfect snug fit true to size throughout the entire shoes while feel just as comfortable as the v.1 with the premium Boost insole. Love the support from the new padded ankle support that is similar to the Terrex Pathfinder CP boots feel. Trade logs are a lot larger with deeper treads that are a bit deeper than the Pathfinder hiking boots’ Stealth Hikers outsole without the exposed torsion beam.
Hes you should do the new forum patchwork mid!!! Those are cool
Is there any warmth in the toe or more than one layer of fabric? How would these do in cold with wool socks?
A bit thicker and warmer than v.1 but it’s not a winter boots replacement. That you would need the Adidas Terrex Pathfinder CP with warm thick marino socks or the Cold RDY Free Hikers (I hope they will release v.2 in triple black!)
This adidas shoe review is sponsored by adidas? Do I have that right
I'm painting that boost
I bought this too with the ADICLUB coupon code. So cheap!
Ugh those orange highlights on the cold-ready high version why why why 🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂
I few different colorways with black boost and these will be a must buy for me. Thanks for the review, I was hoping they'd add a tongue in their next version!
Im torn between all black and black/white. Its the only thing holding me back from clicking “purchase” lol
@@jborrelli34 Yeah after owning so many pairs of boosts and them aging so badly because of the boost yellowing. I decided I won't buy boost unless it's painted or covered like a yeezy 350. I love this free hiker model, but I am going to wait on some better colorways for sure. that's just me though.
@@mrsickwick Is there no way to clean them? I get not wanting a hiking shoe with white boost though, trampling through mud n all that.
@@gromba Oh yeah absolutely, they clean up great! The thing with boost though and this is my personal gripe, other people may not care as much. But boost eventually no matter how clean they stay will start to yellow. The more use they get, the quicker that yellowing process will start. It doesn't happen on painted boost. I love all my boost shoes, specifically my painted boosts and yeezy's though since they all look fantastic after all this time.
Thanks for the review as these GTX looks very different than the v1's GTX which is usually the same as the none GTX with Gore-Tex material. I ordered the tea color in both v.2 in regular and GTX few days ago when they had 40% off and hope to see them this coming week.
U like them
@@solace4114 Yes, as comfortable as all my V.1 (regular/Gore-Tex/ Cold RDY) with the Hefe Luxx’s Original Comfort Insoles yet without the extra cost of replacement with the Boost insoles to make it fit correctly since the V.1’s are usually 1/4” too much space inside the shoe for me to be stable unless I go 1/2 down than it becomes too short for my toes . V.2 is construed stiffer which equals more stability in all directions and a perfect fit for my medium flat feet on both regular and GTX models. On a cloudy/windy 50°F/10°C day with Costco Kirkland merino socks (I don’t ware cotton and there is reason why hikers say “cotton kills “) the V.2 regular is actually warm enough for my sweaty feet to work outside even though it’s more bearable than the OG V.1 regular with water repellent fabric when blowing air directly into both metals. The V2 GTX is much more padded than the V.1 GTX and a lot warmer all the way up to the well padded ankles at 33.8°F/1°C.. V.1 will become my go to warmer spring/summer/fall raining days shoes/boots as it’s less insulated than the V.2 GTX.
@@Jeo-What is v. 2 gtx true to size sir??
@@johnpap1754 yes it is
How do these compare to the Hoka Kaha 2? Stuck between these two for hiking boots 😅 both are around the same price tho
Would be curious to know how these stack up against the ax4
The review I've been waiting on 😎 UK adidas have a 30% discount code available that work on these but the none gore tex boots have better colours so I was wondering how much difference it would make either way
If this comes with wheat color, ill be sold
Dear Hes
Does wearing these gortex version Adidas shoes for longer periods of time cause any bad odour. Your reply would be highly appreciated.
As a person who has life long athletic feet problem, by applying extra virgin olive oil throughout the foot, especially between toes will solve the issue or/and replace the insole with ALL BIRDS merino insole will take care the odder issue since odder is caused by bacteria, and Marino wool is a natural anti-bacterial material (excellently clothing material). Got-Tex is not as breathable as the regular version and will always accumulate more heat so unless the environment is cool I would avoid wearing it for too long.
Would like to see a comparison of both sneakers
what color code is that original one you have? I like the look of the originals more but cant find this color version! thank you
I wonder if they would have them at the Addidas outlet
Get the non gore tex for the comparison 🙏
Ive tried the trail 4 gtx, ultraboost 22 gtx and shield 39s which are good but neither of these are very comfortable/soft enough for me
Any other recommendations? I just want a comfortable waterproof trainer that would be used for everyday use this winter
I would try the v.2 because they are as comfortable as my v.1 with additional Hefe Luxx Ultra Deluxe 2.0 Comfort Boost Insoles installed.
The old one was better. The new version is too hot becauce of all the padding. It is too narrow on the toes which most certainly will lead to blisters on long hikes. And the outsole is too thin under the toes making the roll of the walk unnatural. In the old version all these issues were fixed. The version 1 was heavenly shoe for hiking especially in spring, summer and fall time. Now it seems they are transforming this model into a winter boot.
In the traditional hiking boots the problem often is that they are too hot. This issue Adidas really solved with the FH 1 GT. They had a winner but now they are for some reason going back towards the traditional hiking boot with this version 2.
That’s good for winter?
Can you tell the difference that this new one doesn't have the torsion System? I always thought that's what made the difference between the Ultra boost which has is and NMD which doesn't. It always felt flat when walking on NMD's and the Ultra boost had a bounce to it. Please let me know. I want to buy it, but if it feels more like an NMD than ultra boost then I should get another pair of the Terrex 1 before they are all gone.
Can I use this use in summer ...like daily wear shoe. Walking
Are these decent for winter ?
Hey Hes. Which pants are you wearing at 2:36?
Are there any steel toe shoe's/boots with boost technology?
the profile on my sole is almost flat after 2 years i hope the new ones are better
I wanted to try those with toronto city weather and I try to buy it on friday with the adiclub discount code but next day my order got cancelled...
Adidas ultra boost vs terrex free hiker 2 is a lot more than preference, one is mostly designed to be rugged with grip for trails and hiking, one absolutely isnt
How about these vs the new balance hierro V7 GTX ?
Can you do the review on the non gortex version. The one that looks like it has a built in sock at the top. I bought the regular version. But i see no good reviews on it. I actually didnt know that the goretex version was the only version that had the better more normal high top look. I thought they all looked like that. So i do regret getting the regular version. Because i assumed they all had the gortex standard looking high top. When i ordered the regular version i did it at work and had to have my phones display on low brightness so the boss didnt know what i was doing. So thats why i didnt see the high top was all sock looking compared to the gortex. Bottomline, i would of never bought the regular if i knew it had the weaker sock look. But whatever.
Got the same colour way. These are way more springy that the 1st iteration. Didn't like the white exposed midsole so dyed it black. Looks good.
Post pics on your yt channcel how did you dye it ?
@@solace4114 leather dye. Three steps. There's a lacquer remover, a dye then a matt finish gently rub the midsole with the lacquer remover to take the sheen off, once dry brush with black dye a couple of times masking any area you don't want to cover, once dry, brush twice with Matt finish. There's also a plastic/vinal spray paint I'm keen on trying. That may bond to the midsole and is flexible.
@@Badmansband so it will crack?
@@solace4114 no because it's a dye as opposed to a paint. The spray for vinyl/plastic may do. I've not tried it on a midsole but have on a TPU cage on my EQT17s and they held up well.
@@Badmansband i have a vinyl and rubber matte black spray for cars im curious if it would work
Are these warm thought?
I returned these for the NB Hierro Mid GTX. The upper was just way too stiff and toe box is narrow. Was hoping to use them for light hiking, but they just felt heavy and clunky. The Hierros feel like an actual sneaker boot.
Did I miss it? Are these as cushy underfoot as the first ones?
It actually has the exact same problem with nike goretex shoes, pressure on top of foot
Sizing
Any new colorways coming out
These are on sale now in the US for 30% off!
Are they waterproof enough to go in creek with them?
It has a lot of creasing in the front. That’s my only issue
Is fuse just like a plastic seam cover?
The sock neck on version 1 is way too tight.😢
Is tongue this time made of Gore-Tex? Last Free Hikers were great but tongue was soaking water like crazy
The tongue is but the waterproof height level does not go that high.
I just got a pair in the core black color way for $90 bucks..
I loooove my freehikers…new ones aren’t as sleek
But… more comfortable… as comfortable as my v.1 with replacement Hefe Luxx Premium Boost insole which also cuts down the extra tour box space that I don’t need. Perfect snug fit throughout the new one.
Hey Mr. Hes, I was messaged to reach out to you and I'm guessing it may be about the 3 wins(purchases) I made on the WHATNOT App ( great show by the way) , I'm not sure why maybe it's about shipping all 3 together or something.
