I found these have more supportive, versatile, comfortable outsole and easier to get in & out than the ULTRABOOST 21 GORE-TEX. How is the sizing working out for you throughout camping beside it would obviously be easier to get in & out since it is a bit longer in size?

Great review! Just picked these up and went a half a size down; so l’m glad you agree. The Addis store in NYC said they ran a bit big. I’m only using them for walking. I tried the Gortex Nike, Asics, and Hoka’s. Also picked up the Gortex Brooks. Which are fine. But these to me are by far the most stylish, comfortable, and most well built out of any of them. Purchased the black as well. More expensive but worth it!

From my experience most “hiking” shoes are a little wider/bigger, which is good in my opinion because it gives me the option to wear some thicker warmer socks and still have room in the shoe. Maybe that’s why the sizing seems a little off.

  • @dhimeshpatel

I have these and the Ultraboost 21 in the same size, I would say the fit is a bit bigger, but I would also counter with the types of socks you are wearing will be thicker if you are wearing there anyway. I think being able to wear thick socks is nice, but yeah could size one down but its a more rigid shoe than a regular sneaker so if its too tight I think it would be uncomfortable, I kinda like a more spacious sneaker/boot. The goretex version is a bit sweaty but is nice and warm and water proof. The tread is nice on wet surfaces and gives your confidence to walk normally.

I own these. They are absolutely fantastic comfort wise, but after one week of use the black coating on the boost material has started coming away showing the original white boost and they look horrible. I’ve restored to using a permanent black marker pen to hide the problem. 10/10 for comfort and water resistance but they won’t look good for long. A real shame.

Thanks for doing the review. I got this pair for my wife a few days ago to replace her old pair of SKYCHASER from 6 years ago but she found it too bulky for her liking so I ended up keeping for myself as we ware the same sizes because the midsole is much more comfortable over all the variants of V.1 models and so much easier to slip in & out over the boots versions even though I was saving up for the V.2 C.RDY (ID4226) and V.2 MWN (IG3333).
ONE HUGE CONCERN on the new V2 is the quality of the black BOOST. my V.2 Triple Black BOOST is flaking off already after 6 months use and is showing some white BOOST through which has been reported in many Adidas reviews that Adidas would not honor the warranty for replacement. This has never happened to my other 10+ black/colored BOOST I currently own for 1~10 years. I hope Adidas will address this matter for the current owners and fix this on the newer releases for me to purchase more newer releases.
Regarding of the size and fit, it felt just a "very little" bit longer with my summer wool socks (because "COTTON KILLS" when hiking!); however, when I ware the winter wool socks from Costco they fits just fine with just enough room for feet expansion. As V.2 GTX is much more padded and waterproofing is included all the way to the tong compare to the V.1 GTX's vented none waterproofing tong I am expecting my feet to heat/swallow up a bit faster. The extra space also accommodates either the Hefe Luxx Ultra Deluxe 2.0 Comfort Insoles in the summer for extra BOOST or All Bird wool insole perfectly to keep my sole with extra support, warm, dry and odor free!

No doubts abt the comfort of these boots. What is stopping me from buying them is that the outsole will peel or get detached. The outsole rubber shrink/expands at a different rate from the boost midsole foam. Outsole separation is such a common issue with adidas shoes. I hate to buy an expensive pair of shoes but having to reglue the outsole after every wear

I just got them and I am so disappointed - I have to return them. The cushioning and ride seems basicalyy the same as in Hoka Speedgoat 5, which I also have, but the boost is more responsive. It doesn't necessarily mean one can go faster in Adidas, since they are noticeably heavier. Free Hikers also have more room for the toes. Hokas at the same size have quite narrow toebox and definitely worse lockdown, I would have to tighten the laces to uncomfortable level - very thin tongue doesn't help. Unfortunately Free Hikers have even bigger flaw - quite firm, protruding padding on the heel with exposed stiches. It just hurts my heels to the point I feel the blisters coming up.
Neither Free Hiker Low nor Speedgoat is a match for my old Hierro v6 in terms of comfort. They may have more cushioning and isolation from terrain, but Hierros are just more plushy both in the ride and the upper. Having softer sole and not so agresive lugs, the Hierros are also more versatile for everyday use - walking, running, road, trail - everything comes easy in them. If only they had more durable upper, which after 6 just months became a mess.

The V1.0 was but a bit colder in extreme cold weather. The V2.0 is much thicker and more padded all around with Gore-Tex even on the tong instead of vents on the V1.0 so I would think so. Nothing beats a pair of good merino wool socks though.

Got those Low version (as well as normal one) and must say that Adidas is year after year downgrading it's shoes/boots. Both normal and Low I got are soaking water via tip of toebox. Quality control in Adidas is lately on lowest bottoms since shoes look poorly made (for this price point). I had home few pairs of old Adidas Terrex Agravic Flow GTX (v.1) as well as Agravic Speed 3D GTX and both of those shoes are simply WAY BETTER in terms of quality and water protection.
Recently Adidas is doing SUPERBLY BAD job in making shoes and pricing those. Shame Adidas.
And BTW mate. Pouring some water from a glass on shoes is NOT a test - paper sandals wouldn't soak water in such way. Just put those into the water so that water be below ankle area and THEN check the water resistance - but best put some paper to it so that we can see the results.
I mean I like the fact that you review some boots/shoes but do it properly. And if you review Free Hiker 2 Low then compare it to Skychaser 2. Then people would have some perspective.
I honestly hate Adidas for teasing me with those shoes. In theory everything looks so great (and when you walk it really is because of the boost - and this apply both to normal and Low version) but water-resistance-wise those are SOOOOOOOOO BAD (both models).
