  • The Adidas Terrex Free Hiker GTX has received excellent reviews since its release.
The Adidas Free Hiker is as close to hiking shoe , boot perfection as I’ve ever seen.
I purchased two pairs of Free hikers both in GTX ( Gore -Tex)
I got one “regular” pair and one COLD.RDY pair.
I absolutely love them both. I can honestly say after 5 months of winter/fall use, these shoes are the best hiking boots I have used to date.
They aren’t perfect tho. The sizing is a little trail and error. The top of the shoes is a little tight for my foot even after months of use, and I wish they had a Safety Toe. Besides those minor areas for improvement I haven’t seen a better hiking boot on the market.
Even after months of use these boots both passed the submersion test with flying colors. Some GTX boots will develop leaks after a few months of use, but I’m very happy to report that these are still very much water resistant “proof”.

Glad you liked the review and found it helpful. Submerging the product is my favorite part because I’ve purchased “waterproof” products before and some have leaked out the box our leaked at the worst possible time… Like on the side of a mountain in the winter smh. So I always like to test my gear.

I just picked up the Terrex Trailmaker Mid GORE-TEX Hiking Shoes based on your review. Got them for 112 because of memorial weekend with a 30% off promo code. They are every bit as impressive as I would hope and more. I filled up the sink and submerged my foot and sure enough they are waterproof. They are so light. Goin to hike in the Amazon next week. Thank you again!!!!

All Gore-Tex shoes are waterproof when new. The problems start to appear after one season of hiking. I've had so many bad experiences with Gore-Tex shoes that I went back to traditional leather boots. They are more breathable, and with the right treatment they are water proof.

Perfect review bud thanks so much. I'm a security guard in the rainy uk on a huge building site and my pair of the cold version arrived today. I've brought them into work and walked through all the biggest puddles which must be 3" deep in places and not even so much as any damp got in. I then came inside and switched back to my trainers as my feet were super toasty!
They will also be perfect for cycling or motorcycling in cold wet conditions albeit without the armour of motorbike boots.
Snagged mine for less than $200usd so I'm thrilled with them, well worth the wonga! £€$

Cool review of these Adidas hiking shoes. I have been binge watching lots of AT thru hikers UA-cam videos. Majority of them choose not to hike in gortex boots/shoes as they do not dry out quick enough if hiking all day in heavy rain and having to wake through too many streams flowing with deeper water. I might have to buy a pair of Adidas trail running shoes and see if they work for my size 12/2E wide feet.
I am leaning towards buying a goid pair of altra mont blonc or Olympus trail sneakers or the hooka speed goat or altra lone peaks model trail shies.

First time on the channel. Great review and outdoor set-up 👌 just one question I'm hoping you can help me with. So like you rezza I'm looking for something that's not the traditional fresh out the woods, cumbersome, hiking boot. I tried walking in Nike Pegasus GTX Trail Runners but it turns out I'm susceptible to spraining my ankles. So I'm basically looking for something similar, but with added ankle support. So with these being high/mid tops, what's the ankle support like on them compared to a boot and compared to a lowtop trail runner?

They do run large but not large enough to size down. The normal free hikers are too stretchy on the top of the foot which made them horrible to hike downhill in. My current go to hiking shoes are the Arcteryx Aerios GTX, which are superb in terms of lockdown, weight and grip.

    • @KRTLyfe
      @KRTLyfe  3 роки тому +2

I really think that depends on a few factors, the type of socks are you going to be using and the type of activities do you plan to do in them.
Optimizing the fit is tricky, if you plan to use thick socks and wear them on long hikes and airplanes. Things that tend to make feet swell I would go for the larger size. If you plan on using thin socks and need them to be more form fitting for steep hikes etc go with the snug fit. That’s just my opinion. Thank you for watching and subscribing! Can't comment on this particular shoe but when the Terrex were first released, I picked up a GTX pair as opposed to my usual choice of Salomons. It was a bad mistake, they felt like a "fashion shoe", not a tool for running/hiking. Very little support, cheap feeling materials. I wore them for two days before sticking them in a cupoboard and ordering another pair of Salomons.
I'd never trust an Adidas shoe to be good at anything other than looking cool and I'd highly reccomend that anyone considering buying these just buys Salomons instead.
