Those JT8-D engines were crackling like they had afterburners - and with hush kits on! My favorite airliner of all time with its sleek and elegant T-tail and rear three engine configuration. Oh for a world where these classic birds were still doing most of the flying.
Nothing else sounds like a 727! Long may they fly. The Wheeler Airport served as KC's main airport (MKC) until replaced in the early '70s by KCI. I distinctly remember flying into MKC from LAX in a TWA 720 one stormy night in 1966 and being able to look into the windows of apartment buildings in the Quality Hill neighborhood.
That’s so awesome! I’ve looked into old pictures and some videos of airliners like Convairs and 720s and BAC111s in and out of there and I feel like this 727 really was a blast from the past in that regard. As for the sound, this perspective 100% allows you to hear the J52 engine that the JT8Ds are derived from. Listen to that crackle! Thank you for watching!
Oh the days!!! The 727 has always been my #1 favorite AC. I so wish I could hop a ride on one again. Great vid! I had never heard of this airport. Miss those long takeoff rolls.
Even the apu in these things is loud as hell worked with these jets and every morning at delta and they were loud and they leaked oil too lol miss these jets so much.
I love the 727 before they added the hush kits. My friends and I would got to MHT in the early 90's before the huge runway expansions, perimeter road(now Commerce Ave.) passed about 100 or so feet past the takeoff end of RWY 35 and the Fedex 727's would always takeoff from that runway at 2200 for their flight to Memphis. We would stand there and get jet blasted and because all the engines were in close proximity to each other it was intense not to mention we were only 100' feet away from the tail of the jet as they used every inch of that RWY and really spooled the engines and held the brakes. Good times, unfortunately never to be had again☹
This 727 has hush kits installed and it is still loud! I was a flight engineer on the 727 for United 1986-2000 before the stage 2 hush kits were mandated.
Those were the days. I’d have killed to have been able to ride on them or even spot them unhushed. That sounds so darn cool man. You have quite the experienced background!!!! I bet they were quieter up front toward the flight deck!
Yes, I was going to ask, are these allowed to fly without hush kits? or is there a special exemption? Nevermind, some answered my question below already!
Magnificent! The Boeing 727-200 symphony by Pratt and Whitney in JT8-D Major.
Love that whine, but they are oh so fuel thirsty. Expected, from the 1960, just like the venerable muscle cars....lucky bastards
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂
Leave those beautiful loud engines alone and don't try to silence them and don't try to stop the black smoke either that's part of the beauty of it.
ABSOLUTELY!
Jon Jordan …and no damn butt ugly winglets too!
@@allen480 You're right they are ugly thanks for reminding me totally forgot.
Love those J8td engines

I flew that bird for over 7 years. Loved it!
My dad always said , "All good things must come to an end" , 😢 this was one of those.
The 727 gets my vote for the best lookimg passenger aircraft ever
Can still hear the crackling and popping of the 727 even with the hush kit.
Absolutely! Can’t beat JT8D power!
STUNNING!!!!! Listen to that crackle as well!!!! So much for Stage III hush kits, sounds more like an F-18 or something!!!
Incredible catch brotha!
So true man! Literally could feel the crackle in your body!
This is a REAL airplane. I saw a 787 undergoing a post release test flight, and it sounded like a turboprop.
They don't make 'em like they used to.
The best engine sound ever
Absolutely Spot-on
Beautiful plane! Thank you!
Sound takeoff 727 look like a Rocket takeoff!!!
That's the only way to fly , loud and proud ❤✈

Awesome sound and take-off! Not many birds would be hanging around to be hit by that plane!
The sports car of airliners...my all time favourite!
Even the apu in these things is loud as hell worked with these jets and every morning at delta and they were loud and they leaked oil too lol miss these jets so much.
I can only imagine. Must’ve been fun and a maintenance mess to work on them, but man it would be worth it to keep those birds flying!
Looks like that tail might have been purple, perhaps a Fedex purple tail,,,,,thanx for sharing
Whoa! Aeroplane say "Shhrrreeeeeee! Whooosshhhhh!" Is good aeroplane!

Times sure are different now. I so wish we could go back!
Nice video my friend!
Thank you so much!
L-1011 looks in a state of scrap in the background starting at 0:55? Two epic tri-jets in one video!
Yeahhhh unfortunately that L-1011 had her engines taken off and sent away as soon as she landed back about a decade ago!
Had to read that comment twice... didn't see the "s" at the beginning of "scrap." 😄

How much did they reduce thrust by?
Now thats what an aircraft should sound like!
ABSOLUTELY!
Miss these beauties !
Awesome video !Keep them coming !
Absolutely! Thanks for watching!
@@masonmccall6591 Keep the noise coming
What a good airplane...
reminds me of the old eastern whisperjets from the 60's.
I wish I was alive back then to experience them!
@@masonmccall6591 my dad was a Pratt and Whitney rep for 30 years and his favorite jet was the 727. he's 97 yo now.
Those Eastern Whisperjets didn't even have hush kits, lol.
Hell yes! Great video
Thanks bro! Was definitely one of my all time best catches!
The closest thing to a passenger rocket yet made.
Loud and proud...
and a lovely tristar at 1 minute
What a beautiful plane. Sounds like a fighter jet. Can I still fly on a boeing 727?
Definitely a beautiful aircraft! I wish, but there are no more passenger airlines operating it to my knowledge.
1:48 - 1:58 Some pretty heavy rudder inputs.
If that was the method for checking the controls............. Maybe before getting ready to rotate would be better?
There was a slight crosswind, but I do agree those were pretty heavy for the situation.
Niceee Video🔥🔥🔥. It would be real nice to catch the MD-88 like that too.
Check out my “Olympia Airways MD81” video to see!!!
Not loud enough
Yes, I was going to ask, are these allowed to fly without hush kits? or is there a special exemption? Nevermind, some answered my question below already!
Esse avião é lindo de mais top
How come Aerosucre doesn't climb out like that?
Probably because "overloaded" is part of the pre-flight checklist.
Gorgeous airplane.
Amen to that!
Nice video! Which camera were you using to record this video?
Tail# shows as private carrier. ❤
holy s..... is so fuking amazing!!!!
Absolutely! Thanks for watching!
I can smell ‘‘em from here.
Nothing like pure jet fuel and smoke!
My first plane!
Awesome Flight smoking a cigarrete!!! Good old times! lol
Im waiting Karens anti-smoke in the comments! lol!!!
That aint loud - She`s got those hush kits on, (nevertheless till has that characteristic climb performance)
Make some noise!
Love the old coal burners!
Hushkits are nothjing more than 'political correctness' run amok.
Ppl need to learn to live with jet noise.
ABSOLUTELY! 100% agreed.
Bring it on bring back all the 7 27 And those loud engines and black smoke that was paradise on Earth.
Old workhorse
Bakirelik bu olmalı ❤😂
