Love you doing honest reviews. German reviewer being honest and not holding back the criticism when needed. It's a rare sight these days when in auto reviews especially when ones are reviewing car manufacturers from home country. Keep up the good work. Car looks great, too bad for the recent price jump globally concerning all manufacturers.
I am a Mercedes driver but I need to say that I get the feeling the brand is starting to save up money in the new models. It’s nice to have a great ambient lighting but more important show for me is the quality for example of the buttons or the lack of a great seating position which was always a huge advantage of the old models.
I fully agree. Some of the materials in the interior of the new C class, on the doors for example, feel way cheaper than on the previous C class. The ambient lighting is a nice touch, but I guess this was introduced primarily to satisfy Chinese market.
@@TheMarko117 all Mercedes are now been designed to look good in photos first of all. Even the S class feels cheap in some high touch areas….which is just unheard of
I honestly don’t know what all the rage over ambient lighting is these days. I quite literally couldn’t care less about it, and if anything it’s very distracting to me. Give me solid wood trim, soft surfaces, heavy and solid feeling buttons with tactile and sound feedback, minimize all the screens and lights for the love of God. I’m really unhappy where the ‘luxury’ brands are going.
The same thing is happening to Lexus, the new NX has a lot more tech, but the quality of the materials is noticeably worse than in the previous gen; the overall sense of luxury in the new models is significantly diminished. I haven’t seen the new RX in person yet, only in videos and photos, and it seems it’s following the footsteps of the NX. Luxury no longer feels like luxury, it’s basically just high tech at this point.
I think the previous GLC pre-facelift version is still the best one design-wise. It looks more harmonious and bulky and doesn't have this frowning angry face that mercedes is stamping everywhere from the GTC. This one looks like an angry lifted c-class station wagon. The new wheels somehow look like cheap aftermarket ones. Maybe I'll change my mind in the future, we'll see. Thank you Thomas for another great review!
The Avantgarde exterior package offers more soundproofing. I tried both Amg and Avantgarde and I chose the one that is more quiet. Just mentioning this for those who want to buy the car. For long trips the Avantgarde pack offers more soundproofing in the engine compartment. The gasoline engine is with direct injection and sound more like a diesel...
Too bad the new GLC got smaller on the inside despite getting longer in length. But the extra 6 cm got swallowed by the overhangs ( 4,4 cm ) and the extra 1,5 cm in wheelbase didn't make it into the interior, since they slightly pushed back the rear backrest to get more trunk space. Now you have slightly less legroom in the front and rear and also less headroom in the front. Also the rear bench is a bit shorter than in the predecessor. The only things that have marginal grown are the rear height ( +1mm ) and the shoulder room ( + 2mm ). So if the previous model was too small for you it still is.
I hope some day Mercedes will have a designer who will decide that air vents don’t need to be one of the most prominent parts in the interior but need to be rather subtle designed.
Nice steps forward with some interior elements, and features like see-through view, boot size etc - but then steps back - capacitive touch buttons everywhere, "piano black" plastic that gets scratched horribly if you even put a finger on it, less space for legs...
Just bought this exact GLC 300 model in Starling Blue with the AMG package and Night package. I love the new improved technology and ride! Great video!
Great review, Thomas, love the honest approach as always. You mention newer models are getting sportier, so I wonder - is it cheaper to produce a “sportier” ride/feeling manufacturing and materials wise? Could that be the reason Mercs are getting less comfortable/refined? Thanks.

I love the car but the fake exhaust are a deal breaker for me. Wouldn't spend that much money on a car with fake exhaust, regardless of its other great feature, the fake are a deal breaker
A luxury SUV with characteristics of both a coupe and an SUV is the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300. It has a variety of engine options, including diesel and gasoline engines, as well as the choice of a hybrid powertrain. The car's interior is roomy and equipped with high-end materials and cutting-edge technology, including the MBUX infotainment system, cutting-edge driver assistance systems, and cutting-edge safety measures. There are several trims of the GLC 300, each with a different level of luxury and amenities.
Mercedes and VW really need to give us real buttons instead of these new touch/capacitive "buttons"! The touch "fake buttons" are less precise, more distracting, and dangerous to use while driving.
Thomas, thanks for your reviews, they are good as always. But as a small remark, often when you speak about build quality, in fact you are referring to materials and not the build quality. If you take a look at the screenshot at 13:40, your finger points directly to a very unusually huge gap at a very unusual place, which to me does not seem to be an example of good build quality :) I wonder if you were a bit more critical and showed more of these, Mercedes nowadays does seem to be going backwards in terms of build quality (not materials). But I guess being at the official presentation does somewhat restrict you from what you can say and really think, i.e. from being brutally honest about the product you are rewieving..
Hey Thomas, how come you didn't mention the massive downgrade of the materials in the interior? Everything above the middle dashboard looks fine and elegant but everything beneath it is now completely in hard pack materials ! Where the predecessor had soft touch materials even down on the doors, the middle console and the glove compartment, it is now all hard plastics.
1. The dash, especially the placement of AC vents high and the UI display lower, seems very nice. 2. In the US, a 37mpg+ ICE AWD base RAV4 hybrid similar in size and function, costs maybe $35k. So a $47k awd GLC seems like a pretty good buy. But a 37 mpg $47k AWD Highlander hybrid LE seems even better.

Thank you for review. Capacitive buttons though kill usability. Infotainment in general seems unnecessary complex and not very ergonomic. Kills the whole thing.
I wonder what is up with Mercedes and the door closing sound these days. It is like the sound engineers that used to engineer all the sounds are gone. I also drove a GLB 220d as a loan car for a week while my W212 E Class was in for a repair and the rear doors of the GLB didn't align properly with the front doors and really had to be slammed. And it can't be for good insulation because there was still plenty wind noise. Also it is unacceptable that this GLC has hard plastic from half way down the doors and dashboard. The quality is similar to that from those Chinese SUVs from Chery and Haval these days.

@@autogefuehl I’m sorry, I missed that video. Thanks! It’s so sad, that it has a great electric range, but we still lose a huge amount of boots space. I was hoping that this would be resolved by 2022.
Mercedes have a lot of good things going for them, but they really do not seem to like listening to the criticisms either. Many small things, like lack of tactile knobs, and insisting on pretend exhaust pipes... If they actually took these things in board they would have a car that truly reflects the attention Mercedes puts into their vehicles.
Is this the new 2023 GLC model a US or European model? I am asking cause I like the new larger center LCD panel as it is shown here at the 8:35 mark. I have seen pictures of this center LCD panel pictures on on my local US MB website and they look just like the older 2022 model. In other words....does the US and the European models have different center LCD panels? Thank you.
@@autogefuehl I have not yet found the US model here. I would like to know if the new larger center LCD panel will be available on the 2023 US GLC models. I have not seen this yet and it is possible that it will not, and MB will wait till the 2024 US model year. If this really is what will happen then I will NOT buy the 2023 GLC as in my eyes it is still an OLD model.

Is there more room for my right leg in the new glc? I don't think
awesome video..beautiful car…but not an EQA :), any chance of a review of the EQA350? please thomas
Hi Thomas, I like blue cars too, but if you had to match the closest Audi color, what would it be? Scuba blue, Sepang blue, Navarra blue? :)
hehe cool =) There are a lot of nice Audi blue colors, the ones you name, also Ara Blue, Turbo Blue... it also depends on the model and the year they sometimes also just renamed these or the tones are just a little different
@autogefuehl exactly! I saw the GLA in the spectral blue today. Probably the closest audi blue color is the sepang. What do you think?
Yes indeed spectral at mb!
20:53 every time
Police: minding it's own business
Me: oh, I go to jail today most likely for nothing
Same when you came to shop, did not buy anything and just passing by to exit
haha yes totally
Compared with Lexus NX, which is better ?
Great review once again Thomas! Have they fixed the crabbing issue with the front wheels on vehicles with the 4 Matic system?
Thanks! What exactly?
@@autogefuehl In the previous models of the GLC with 4 Matic the front wheels scrub out when turning, it makes a loud thuding noise, its a huge problem with RHD GLC here in Australia
Portland, JAMAICA in the Building!!!!!!!
Thomas, It's disappointing you don't use a digital vernier to show us the size difference in the grille 😂
How much will the 2023 GLC be?
No matter how excellent a Merc may be, you will nitpick on nonexistent issues. You are a core BMW fan and we know that already.
I dont favor any specific brand, i rate every single car individually
Hello Thomas, great review. Did you feel any leg pain from the positions of the pedals in this car? I'm 193cm and I found the Audi Q5 pedals uncomfortable (they are angled upwards which is not good for long legs).
Hey Thomas, do you have any information how much smaller the boot of the phev is? Is it really still has a step in the boot? Thanks!
You can see it here: ua-cam.com/video/AHzgckHPjzE/v-deo.html
@@autogefuehl I’m sorry, I missed that video. Thanks!
It’s so sad, that it has a great electric range, but we still lose a huge amount of boots space. I was hoping that this would be resolved by 2022.
Any GLC owner on relatability of this model? Planning on getting this to replace an old ageing BMW 320D. Ideally 2-3 years in what we are considering.
Hilarious reaction to the police 😆
Is this the new 2023 GLC model a US or European model?
I am asking cause I like the new larger center LCD panel as it is shown here at the 8:35 mark.
I have seen pictures of this center LCD panel pictures on on my local US MB website and they look just like the older 2022 model.
In other words....does the US and the European models have different center LCD panels?
Thank you.
Hey, this is EU model, u can always see that at the turning indicators
@@autogefuehl I have not yet found the US model here.
I would like to know if the new larger center LCD panel will be available on the 2023 US GLC models.
I have not seen this yet and it is possible that it will not, and MB will wait till the 2024 US model year.
If this really is what will happen then I will NOT buy the 2023 GLC as in my eyes it is still an OLD model.
This is the same GLC that couldn't save Indian businessman Cyrus Mistry from the crash 😔
Is it confirmed that the V8 is dead for the GLC63 like the C63?
I always thought the E-Class was the most important product line for Mercedes?
you never exceed the speed limit....... uhummm....... hahahaha. ok, by the way, great video as usual. congrats.
😁
Prefer previous model as you must have manual aircon controls
All other brands should keep up with the 100Km range on electric mode like this Merc!!!! It became a standard on PHEV Mercs... well done
