@@Jack_80 Situation been kind of grim after Bamco came out and said such a project would not be profitable. Takahashi and Monolithsoft have kind of washed the games from their record with KOS-MOS being the only real exception since they use her in multiple games.
My only regret with this game when I first played it was not taking my time as I knew after hitting the credits it would be a long while before the 3rd came out.
Yes I did say I would in the Xenogears Retrospective. I am currently working on the Xenosaga 3 video ATM with hopes to have it all done by the end of April so I can do my Xenoblade 1 retrospective using the definitive edition..
By no means do I think this game is bad and I do agree that people trash on it way to much. However, the reason people hate on it, and why I personally think it the weakest entry in the Xenosaga trilogy is the combination of issues. If it it were one or 2 individual things it would have been fine, but everything added together was a different story. The combat system had its issues (though not nearly as bad as some make it out to be) and the art design was more than a bit jarring at times. I personally wasn't a big fan of the Jr. centric story and the ending especially the final boss fight which was nearly unlosable and worse based on rng if you actually finish off Albedo or not was really, really bad. I also question the decision of the removal of shops for basic items which in terms of gameplay can, and probably did turn off a lot of people, especially early game. That said I love the trilogy as a whole and still think this game is an interesting entry. In any case thank you for the video, and the very well thought out comments on the various issues and aspects in this game. It always nice to hear a relatively objective and thought out analysis rather than mindless bashing or defending, which I see far to much of.
Personally even if this is a bad game, it still feels like more of a game than the linear movie that was Episode 1 and its for the reason why I like this game more.
i liked the combat system in 2. it was different and took some getting used to, but once i got it down it was just as fun as the first game. the thing that annoyed me was changing the voice actor for kos-mos, her voice in the first game fit the character so perfectly.
I have to disagree with a lot. The music is fine in both games and the story is still good. But 2's character models are terrible to look at. The combat system in 2 is the worst of the 3. I much preferred 1's over 2. The pacing of, well everything in 2, just wasn't as smooth (as in the mix of story and the side missions. It never felt good to do any of them, but as a completionist, you want to do them...). 1 had such a classic and iconic look and I enjoyed the battle system more. If you played the mini games (which you said you didn't really get into), the mech game was just okay in 1, but really cool it was something you could do. But the card game was actually quite well made for anyone that enjoys TCG's like me. It was really sad to see that left out of 2. KOS-MOS, the best character in the series, while both her 3rd games designs were the best, the 2nd games version of her is by far the worst looking. 1 being a classic and almost as good as the two in 3. I play 2 because it's needed in context from playing 1 and 3. Again, the story is good, but the combat is meh and the sidequests feel like a chore. Note though that this is from someone that still really loves the series and has played the trilogy 4 times thru (and the first game more than that as there were points in life when the sequels were not out yet).
there may have been a lot of baffling decisions w/ episode 2, but there were times where I had more fun w/ it than episode 1

The Xenosaga trilogy deserves a remaster/remake.

Jin and chaos are my favorite characters. First time I saw Jin and he became a playable character, "😳 Shion, is your brother single?!"
