It is VERY difficult for someone to break through decades of mental conditioning to accept unquestionable adherence to a religion..Most believers end up investing so heavily in the emotional entanglements of their fellow devotees that it's virtually impossible for them to go clear of it... BUT, for those who have the courage to examine such deeply carved beliefs, there is NO better channel on social media to accomplish it. Humble opinion, peace.

@John-kt4lc Exactly right friend.. My experience was similar to yours.. Teaching the hell myth to young children is child abuse, in my opinion.. It sinks pernicious roots into our psyche that never ENTIRELY goes away.. I remember as a Mormon missionary (who received a lot of praise for being one of the best read and studied on my mission), knocking on a man's door who very calmly told us that he is the most staunch atheist and we couldnt change his mind. My companion said "challenge accepted" and he let us in.
We had a long conversation, going back and forth with scripture and philosophy and I had one of the most stimulating conversations I'd had in a long while. He even complimented me on not repeating the same dogma he always heard, but i could tell that his arguments were always better than mine. Because of this, I decided to try an appeal to emotion and told him to ask in prayer and reflect on how he felt, that God loves him and would reach out. The sudden sadness and trauma that welled in his eyes as he just said "you have no idea how many times ive tried that. He either isn't real, or he doesn't love me. Either way, he has nothing to offer me and I have nothing for him."
That resonated with me way more than i could have imagined. We left, and that started my five year deconstruction journey that was incredibly painful. I just "came out" as atheist to my family last week and I have still been surprised by the love and support I've received. I had church leaders encourage me to ask questions, read every translation of the bible, listen to both sides and that would lead me to the truth. They arent happy with what I found to be the truth but they are happy i am being honest with myself and now others.
It may be easy to convince yourself that god loves you, but to claim he loves everybody is to ignore the millions who have felt entirely neglected after reaching out with everything they have.

Most people who don't believe in God complain about Him supposedly not intervening with the bad things that are happening in the world, but when he makes a command in the bible on how to conduct yourself then that isn't love? So let me guess if a God does exist he shouldn't command anyone to do anything, instead he should just let everything happen otherwise he will be accused of not being loving, or better yet if he threatens punishment for evil deeds then also he is somehow unjust?

The God of Christianity is the ultimate bully - he leaves no direct evidence of his existence over and above any other religion and expects people to believe just based on trust and it’s do things my way or else ....eternal torment without our any chance of escape . I wouldn’t allow my worst enemy to suffer that way but the loving God of Christianity would ? And if only a few will be saved then that’s a lot of people going to end up in hell compared to those in heaven - hardly a victory over death Christ supposedly provided - sounds like the devil won in the end as he will have the vast majority over to his side . Seems like God only loves a few and it seems that God chose these in advance before the world was created at his pleasure anyways as well so it’s not as if we have a choice really anyways as it mentions in Ephesians 1:5 - So according to this verse , if God chose people in advance even before the world was created to be saved he also created the vast majority of people to end up in hell if you follow the logic - so why would he create people who would end up in hell in the first place ? Surely it would be better for them not to have been born ? What a Cruel God .

For me, what made it quite clear that not only does God not love _everyone,_ but that he does not love *_anyone,_* is the entirety of Revelation. After all, it starts with a few "warnings" to a few churches, and then it is just nothing but atrocity after atrocity, horror after horror, war crime after war crime that God has the angels inflict upon _all_ of humanity, making absolutely distinction between the "true believers" and the not (no mention at all of anything even remotely resembling the Rapture). The book made it clear to me that complete faith/belief in God was not going to spare me or anyone else from death or the eternal punishment theists regularly claim us atheists are in for.
So, in my best Lewis Black impersonation, I ask, why would I love, believe in, or worship a God that is going to be nothing but an absolute prick to me no matter what?

I grew up Catholic too, in the "bad old days" just prior to Vatican II, and I totally get what you are saying about seeing God as a threat. He seemed, according to various visionaries, to constantly be offended with the whole lot of us. There is a channel currently featuring the teachings of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen who was popular back in the '50's--all you have to do is look for the images of the unsmiling stern nuns in full habit. That tells you everything you need to know. This was the Catholicism I was brought up in. I get chills seeing those images.

@@Peekaboo-Kitty there is a big gap between not killing someone as punishment and not punishing them at all, but you just presented that false dichotomy as the only available options. Are uou aware that even a 4 year-old can spot a problem there? And sometimes killing is not done by the wicked but by the just. You can't arbitrarily determine what is justified. That's what laws are for, and if God is not subject to laws then he cannot be considered just.

I'm doing what I can to keep my daughter out of the christian church, but it's hard when her grandmother is constantly preaching at her. Make sure your daughter receives a broad education and teach her to think for herself and draw her own conclusions about anything and everything. When she reaches the age that she can take on the Bible for herself, encourage her to read it from beginning to end. I adored my very religious grandmother and she began teaching me the Bible from before I can remember; and, otherwise, I was brainwashed to being a christian from a very early age. It was when I got a little older and began reading the Bible on my own--and I mean the ENTIRE Bible--that I began to have considerable doubts. Although much damage had been done as a result of my being indoctrinated with christianity, I was later able to salvage much of my life upon de-convertion.

He could theoretically be angry with the wicked everyday, while still being patient to not destroy them yet. (I feel like your second verse makes a stronger case though.) Just a thought I had, really enjoyed the rest of the video.

Yes i hear that. The second verse is much stronger. But also its more about showing a pattern. Its not the most damning verse. But just goes to show this god is angry, resentful, unkind etc. not love. Thousands more like it.

Hi Brandon, To me this is your best production yet in a string of exceptonal productions! I have one recommendation: Please speak a little slower so as to give us listeners time to absorb your insights.

I think your approach to getting believers to rethink their positions is the best way. Philosophical discussion doesn't work, arguing or making fun of their ideas doesn't work. When pushed, believers always fall to scripture to back up their position and feelings. Getting believers to really get to know their holy book and what it says is why they don't like Bart Ehrman, Dan McClellan and you.

Why would anyone who is a true born again follower of Jesus Christ want to rethink their position? That would be a step downward into DOUBT. And since The Lord Jesus Christ has clearly said that He is "the Way, the Truth, and the Life, there is absolutely no reason to think otherwise.

@@christophergibson7155 You're making the fallacy that it's my responsibility to maintain a one sided relationship with the god of a book.
I was a true born again believer, and re thought my position. Nothing about who jesus is or what he said can go any further than what a book said a long time ago. The more I learned about what the scripture says and how it came about, the more i can say what jesus has to offer is nothing.
How would it be a step down to finally realise that what you believe in is fake? That's called coming to your senses and moving on toward what is real. Jesus may have been attributed those words in a book, but who cares? Why would i believe a message of peace and love from a god that needed a human sacrifice to attain it??
There are good people that can help you navigate out of this false belief you've convinced yourself of.

@damianabbate4423 How could you have been "a true born again believer" when what you believed in was "fake"?

@@signposts6189 At the time i believed, it was very real. I didn't say it was fake while i was a believer.
I can assure you, the minute you walk away from jesus, he won't be looking for you. The only power god and jesus have is the power that human believers give the idea. It's a mass delusion that continues because people can't let go of the idea of eternal life. The idea of a god gives people a false hope about the past, present and future.
