Exactly as I said, unstability is key.
There is strength in instability 😭
Don’t forget about lag though, lag is a key mechanic
I am making a pretty well detailed f22 raptor
I found a perfect balance between too stable and too unstable that allowed me to invent a new maneuver with a plane i have.
I'm calling the new maneuver the pitch snap. It is a 180° flip using pitch with a turn radius of 0
@@SirNobleIZH dude people have been doing this for years, not just on trailmakers, i even found a different maneuver that involoves it
Good explanation Storm! The low wing aircraft with the wing-tips higher than at the wing-root is called Dihedral, all wings have Dihedral, but it is more visible on the low wing planes, even a Cessna 172 has a bit of Dihedral to it. The idea is that as one wing drops it becomes in line with the air flow, increasing what is called "Angle of Attack" the raised wing has a lower angle of attack, which lowers lift on the high wing and increases lift on the lower wing, pulling the plane back to straight and level. The F4 Phantom is a proof of concept that you can make a brick fly with enough thrust. So, the more thrust the better until you reach diminishing returns. In real aircraft, there are two types of drag: Induced, and Parasitic. Induced Drag comes from making lift, most seen with heavy commercial aircraft at take-off, or landing, Low speed, high angle of attack. lots of lift and there for lots of drag, you can see the air spinning at the wing tips, "wing tip vortices". Parasitic drag is from things sticking out into the air flow, from the wings themselves and the engines to the small rivet heads that hold the place together. Induced drag lessens at higher speeds but parasitic drag increases at higher speeds. Your analogy with the fletching on an arrow is spot on, it's about the mass center and drag center relationship, keep the drag behind mass or the mass will want to go to the rear, think of a shopping cart wheel. Disclaimer: I'm a certified Aircraft Mechanic for last 13 years and a pilot in training since 1999.
I also saw a design with dihedrals where the wing tips are twisted upwards slightly to increase the angle of attack even further to increase the self-correcting tendency of the dihedral. I used that design to make a self-flying plane that mechanically stabilizes on the roll axis instead of using logic!
Dang, thank ya so much for this explanation. And thank you for learning me somethin 🤣. I’m glad you enjoyed and I’m glad I got something right at least 😅
Thanks, I’ve been really confused with wing design recently
I’m glad I could help 😊
From personal experience and many years of this game, I could say, without a doubt swing wing design, if mastered is the best way
You did it again Storm, another good tutorial that manages to stay fun and informative at once. This is the mark of a creator that knows what he's doing and I love that element about your chanel and I bet I'm not the only one thinking this 😁
Thank you for enjoying and I’m glad I’m of help!
Thanks, never could find a design that was this easy to follow and understand, also thank for explaining the physics!
Np np
Thank you so much! Im verry new to the game and I saw videos of jets with really sharp wing angles, thanks for telling me about the sharp angle wedges.
First!
dang bro out here speed running Storm's vids, lol.
@@MrGingerBr3Ddats my mama 🤣
12:13 that is in fact a variant of a Swept wing, with a lower aspect ratio. A delta wing should be an almost perfect triangle. Better yet, if your focus is agility, lose the elevator fins and replace it with elevator flaps attached to the main wing but be mindful of high-speed “compression”. Same if you’re focused on speed.
But the nature of a “tailless delta” is that while it’s low speed agility and high speed lift is unmatched, it will lose that speed very quickly if you make sharp turns.
My guy thankyou! I've been looking for someone to help me understand for a day or two now, much appreciated!
I am too broke to buy trailmakers but it's entertaining to watch you videos
And if I had enough money my pc is trash
So sorry you can’t experience it for yourself, I’ll try and give ya the best show possible 😊
(steamunlocked exists my man)
i love storm and i love his wholesome comment sections
Forward swept wings are insane for maneuverability if you can get them to not spin into oblivion
Very very true
I'm ur 200th like
Btw, who made your intro, and how much did it cost? Things epic
Been waiting for this video so long, using the new mic right?
Yessir
@@ProjectSTORM-qb4cn sounds sooo much better, theres a bit of echo but that isnt the mic's fault, and it doesnt bother that much anyways
~7:40 i must say that the f-22 and f-16 do not use delta wings. they use clipped trapezoidal wings.
To my knowledge just building the frame for the wing at an angle doesn't do much. It really works when you use hinges to sweep the wings.
Storm something that I feel makes me see all your videos but sometimes I don’t need them
Awesome and good for you 😎
We all know that storm is the best more advanced trailmakers content creator (probably with a few exceptions i don't know about)
Thank you so much but I do know that a creator named Nanodude05 is way better than me and is actually my teacher 😊
I just use the dorito wings
i found that backwards geometry is more agile and stable than normal
Thank you storm, this helped me so much
Np happy to help
Maybe show us more bike stuff in the future
Please do a bike or car tutorial ❤😊
Of course
i love you
can u make a video on togglable stabilizers please
I'd love to hear about gliders and separately design specifically around maximum top speed and acceleration. Is enhanced aerodynamics aways worth the weight cost for each type of design?
Now I must go watch the video again. Lots to learn!
with the run he is building on is that a map or do you need to build it i am really confused
thx man
Np man
ah yes. the good mic is back
Ive wounder what the point of the angled wings were
So what if you did a biplane with swept wings or a ww2 hing with swept wings
I tried to make a ww1 German gotha bomber but it is too heavy. I’m trying to work on that
10th view
could you also try reverse swept wings like the x-29? i have built one liek that and it also performs well at doing circles at relative speeds
Storm could you do a vid on armor?
You should show like a extreme sept of some sort like Eurofighter typhoon stuff like that I have a bit of trouble with
d a s s a u l t r a f a l e > e u r o f i g h t e r
Hey storm i have a question im trying to make a vtol jet but I want to have the stabaliser activated while im holding a Button but when I let go i want it to deactivate how i have tried many Times but never got it to work
where should my pitch and roll come from? I always put pitch AND roll in the main wings, only pitch in the tail (unless it's a bigger tail, then i do both again)
You should try your very best to put the pitch in the tail. Think about it from a leverage standpoint, pushing something down from the very back will push the other side up, vs pushing something down at the middle making it just altogether go down. Hope that helped 😅 also roll should go in or near the wings
Video 2 on asking for a real good dogfighter without any dlcs
Dayum
Please do tutorial on floating blocks and my dog fighter goes 450km
A creator named Nanodude 05 has a tutorial on this already and I really don’t wanna steal his thunder. Go check em out 😊
bro a wing always generates lift upwarts in relation to your plane a baloon always generates lift upwarts in relation to the horizon/ground A WING IS NOT A BALOON IT DOESNT MATTER UF THE WING IS ON TOP OF YOUR PLANE OR AT THE BOTTOM
it kind of does, because if the lift is above center of mass it won't stay level, it's going to try to stay horizontal. lift above CoM = more stable, less agile; lift below CoM = less stable but more agile
@@L0yalDragonthanks for the explanation because I honestly didn’t know how to respond to the comment 😅 smart person saves the day yay
it's funny, because it is mid term break for me atm
😭
Hey Storm have you ever made leading edges and trailing edges that move for better maneuverability? I have a Dogfighter that actually has insane turning and good stability (No Hinges btw) and it also has Leading and Trailing edges [Flaps acting like horizontal stabilzers] which give it that maneuverability.
No I’ve actually never heard of this, that’s really cool 😅
bro... every wing has a leading and trailing edge, because it's the EDGE of the wing not the control surface |:
Hey Storm, you tend to use the helicopter wings and sails and paddles in your planes alot, what do these do to help?
They help with stability in the wings a lot more, so if I have any pitching up or down, it negates or lightens the effect of that on my plane. It will lower my instant turn time as well so I don’t have as much jittering on my more maneuverable planes.
If you have an NVIDIA GPU nvidia broadcast can get rid of some of that echo in your mic!
Thank you
Day 2 of asking Storm to use ALT :'3
Waiting for a back sweeping wing tutorial 😔
Adjustable*, like the tomcat F-14
I gotchu, I’m gonna make a second part for Dorito wings, forward swept wings, and adjustable wings
you are the legend
@@ProjectSTORM-qb4cn
What would u do if u had the dlc bc ur always talking about a dlc what dlc tho bc I have the air dlc and I wonder what I should have done if I have the dlc for it
I’m talking about the high seas dlc
Any tip for flying wing as mine flips like a normal plane with no elevators?
Have enormous amounts of drag at the wing tips, you can force more drag in there by putting flaps on the top and bottom of the tips of the wings at 45 degrees or more 😊
his bi plane was more of a canard style plane
the f 16 dosent use delta wings
You forgot the single wing planes such as the mirage 2000 and the eurofighter
That's delta wing
@@random_model.builderthis is true
everyone forgets the dassault rafale but it's literally betterr than the euro fighter ☠️
why are you using terraria calamity DoG(devourer of gods) phase 1 music?
Buddy, buddy, that’s outcast of the sulfuric seas, the aquatic scourge boss theme. DoG is much more aggressive than that and I have the songs I use in the description lol
Why did i think that
burgers
Beeschurger
frinch frenes
Can u help me make a ufo engen
Why does it sound like your in a long tunnel
There’s a lot of echo fyi
Yeah Fr Ik. Hardwood flooring and no sound proofing 💀
Ok hear me out. If you consider your biplane a bi plane what is about canards on a fighter jet. DAMN. We currently have biplanes fighting in the sky
Lol my bad 😅
Canards aren't wings
@@zero509ix7 Do you understand sarcasm?
bro tf your "delta" wing was just a big swept wing, a delta wing is a doritos like on the eurofighter of the dassault rafale. delta wings usually have pitch AND roll into them, negat-ing the need for an elevator, but you can replace it with canards and have even more pitching power (like on the eurofighter/rafale). There were planes like the mig-21 (goat plane) that did have an elevator at the back, but idk why they did it, probably because the engines weren't making the plane ffast enough for the doritos configuration. Not hating or anything, just saying that swept wings have the back of the wing angled, but delta wings have it straight. also the F-22 doesn't have a delta wing but a diamond wing. By the way, the best way to remember what i just said is to remember that the letter D (delta), in greek, is a doritos when in capital letters. Your videos are great I'm just pissed off when someone makes a mistake like that.
My lord chill bro, but yes I understand thanks for the feedback. And the f22s wings are classified as diamond delta wings so I was basing my design off of that. Once again thanks for the feedback 😅
@@ProjectSTORM-qb4cn btw love your vids (boat/catamaran tutorial next ? or is it on the paddle video ? i'm gonna watch this one next)
Where is the variable geometry wings.
Second wing design vid coming soon
@@ProjectSTORM-qb4cn oooooooo don't forget the dorito wing
