My OCD wouldn't let me rest until I found and fixed it. I just found your channel on my recommendations. Gotta say the first thing I noticed was the gold Bulldog. Gold
The truck is 100% Mack, meaning it has a Mack-produced drivetrain, engine, transmission, and drive-axles. Yes this truck is worthy of fixing it right. Imop.

Sweet truck. Leaks can be fickle like...well, leaks. Take it down the road, get it good and hot. Bring it back and see if it leaks.

Looks like a leaking rocker cover gasket or engine brake housing gasket.
It will blow out and make a mess under revs and load, you may not be able to replicate it at a low idle.
If you’re buying new gaskets, you’ll need 4 rocker cover gaskets,(they are the same for rocker cover and engine brake housing), 6 fibre washers for the rocker cover bolts, and 2 breather cover gaskets, to suit an E6 2 valve engine.
Once you’ve got it apart and cleaned up, glue the new gaskets to the bottom of the rocker cover, and to the engine brake housing, and let the glue or silastic cure. I sit a brick on them on the floor to hold weight down on the cover while the glue is setting.
Fix it up, you’ll be happier when it’s clean and dry 😊
Good work mate, you’ve got great taste in trucks. Great to see you keeping them alive.

Nice video of the little Mack. You could be valve (rocker) cover gaskets leaking, which might be cork which can stretch, crack or shrink with time. See if parts store have a rubber style valve cover gaskets, which is really nice as you can reuse several times. Or get a Fel-pro product valve cover gasket which doesn't stretch or shrink or crack like cork either. Try to stay away from cork due to age and drying up shrinking and making brittle, then cracking again. Take care

    Hi Grayce,
Appears to be the engine brake rocker tower gasket that is leaking. Best to replace all the gaskets including the cover bolts. You need a foam cannon for your pressure washer.

when changing out the valve covers and fiber washers dont forget to put the valve cover upside down and press around the bolt holes to push that back out it helps to give a better clamping pressure on the gaskets when assembled my favorite engine I rebuilt over 600 of those

Nice keeper rig! Sneaky weepy lube oil leak irritating, my guess is rocker cover to head or external oil vent line or supply to turbo perhaps. Things loosen up as they shake rattle an roll.

    Hey Grace
It will probably only leak when the engine is up to running temp and under load
Gaskets and prongs will dry out when not in use for a prolonged period
Definitely replace valve cover gaskets and injector seals

Love them R-Models, I recall a guy I trucked with, years ago, had a 6-71 Detroit (238) the 71 series Detroits were famous for leaking oil. Anyhow in conversation one day this guy said I never change oil in my truck, I put two qts oil a day in it anyway, I just change the filter every once in a while.

Hi you two! Hey grayce it could be you ran it to hard, after setting. But inthink that rocker cover gasket i ther is old and needs replaced or dome where else! The reason why is cause of the puddles under it i saw! And it wasent just one either! So i bet you might want to check all the fasteners on that motor! Didnt that truck set for awhile b4 you folks got it! And then drove it like what 9+ hours home! Put a peice of cardboard unfer her and look where the oil drips down can kinda tell.you where the leaks or leak is coming from! Hope this helps! Anf love that paint colors anf scheme it has!

Watching Episode 6 on Dirt Poor, fascinating... reminded me of bagging talc many years ago... nothing sophisticated, just sat in a seat, shoved a paper bag on the spout and actuated... when we hit the target weight it would shut off. The other other half was loading paper bags into rail cars... we had a flexible spring conveyor that we moved into the end of a car, started sending bags down, stacked by hand, slowly moved the conveyor back as a row was stacked... think they were 30 lb bags... for several years I won the "guess the weight of the pumpkin" challenge at the local Harvest Fair... muscle memory knew what 30 lbs was... yeah I was like 30 years old, back in the late 70's.

Nice video, Grayce (and Gavin too). That spray bottle Dawn works really well I have found and now that it's soooo clean, maybe keep an eye on it to see if anything shows up. My thought for what its's worth is the oil you found looks like motor oil from a rocker cover gasket leak and not diesel from an injector - good news hopefully?? You could put on new rocker gaskets to see if that was the problem I guess!! Take care! 😀

  • @jaredc.3508
    @jaredc.3508 2 місяці тому

would start with oil filter (make sure its good and tight and ain't got 2 o rings on it. i done that before and it freaked me out) , oil pan, valve covers, timin cover, and check the gasket between the injection pump timin cover, also check the front main and rear main.
i've never worked on any of these mack trucks but thats generally what i look for first, looks like it's got a turbo so i'd also check the supply and return line for the turbo (had a few of those supply lines go bad in vehicles over the years and its always somethin i overlook.)
if yall still can't find it put some baby powder all over the place and run it for a few miles, the baby powder will help find the leak real fast. the baby powder will wash off with water real easy too.
worst case scenario you can't find the leak and you just keep topping it off. sometimes thats just what you gotta do.
thats a BEAUTIFUL TRUCK and i'm sure it'll run for many many years.
also sidenote, make sure the water on the pressure washer is on before you start the engine, runnin the pump dry is real bad for it and can cause premature failure.
go big blue from winchester KY!!

Kentucky girl, I love it! ❤️💪😉😎
I’m a Kentucky farm MAN, myself, I own a pretty large trucking company myself, and I am a certified diesel mechanic and aviation mechanic, plus I’m an airline commercial rated pilot as well, now that I got a shot background on me, I’ll just try to help by saying I’m pretty positive your valve pan gaskets are leaking, they’re bad for the bolt backing out on them and loosening up, especially on the R model Mack engines, we have a few of those here around the shop we use for short haul projects, nobody wants to drive them cross country, because they’re Mack’s, and they don’t wear out, they wear the drivers out! lol.
I always said they don’t break down, they only bring the drivers down, there is no luxuries when it comes to a Mack truck, they’re just TRUCKS, and that’s IT!!!!! Lol
I don’t think that I would pressure wash them when they have an oil leak like that, if oil can get out then water can definitely get in! And you don’t want that. I believe I would have fixed that leak first, if I was you, I would start it up and run it just a little bit then change the oil immediately, cause I would imagine you would have a little water in that oil.
Just a little advice from a seasoned trucker, and truck owner operator. 😉😎

dblclutch ron, fix the oil leak. put cardboard or paper under the truck to figure out the location of the leak. or at least narrow down somewhat the location of leak, which side of engine is leaking or front to rear of engine. good luck
