I will reserve judgment until we get closer to the opening night of the movie, but I have to admit that this trailer showed me just enough to make me interested in seeing it. I think it was a good decision to make this a direct sequel and not a futile attempt at a remake. I just hope that they learned their lesson from their Halloween trilogy, and they do not veer off the beaten path. All they have to do is just show us a continuation of a very good story and don't try to reinvent the wheel so to speak. As great and trailblazing as the original 1973 Exorcist is, there are more than enough questions still left from that movie that could be explored in this one to help make this a very good sequel and trilogy. That is really basically what the Exorcist III did and what the first season to the Exorcist television series done too which drew viewers and made for good storylines. Why did the demon choose Regan? What did the demon want? Why these two girls? What connection is there to the original movie? I'm hearing that is the premise of this new trilogy. Not an attempt to out shine the original, but can they make people afraid of the unknown again? People aren't scared of the dark just b/c they think a real monster is there. People are afraid of the dark b/c they don't know what all lurks under the cover of darkness! Something that could be watching them and studying them and waiting for the best moment to strike at them! A psychological thriller could really mess with your mind much more than a bunch of silly jump scares, excessive blood and gore, sickening body fluids, or lewd language!!!
Yeah, no, that auto-tuned possession voice is very cliche and discouraging. The other girl’s voice at the end was a bit more promising, but I hope things are still being worked out in post and they can recreate Mercedes McCambridge’s iconic voice the best they possibly can. As far as I’m concerned, making a direct follow up to the original without that voice would be like making a direct follow up to Halloween without the Shatner mask. I’ve been waiting a long time for this since it was originally announced so I’m going to remain cautiously optimistic.

I agree. That auto-tuned voice made my heart sink. I have a feeling that we've already seen Linda Blair's cameo (in photo only, ha ha!). Maybe Burstyn needed a new car. So far, it looks like a typically unsatisfying modern horror movie with thunderous jump scares, jittery effects, flashy camera work, and auto tuned demon voices. The immersive quality of the original film has not been accomplished in any of the sequels and prequels. Yes, I will watch it since I have seen all of the other films.
@@JosephRGrych I read that Burstyn only agreed to do it so that she could donate her paycheck to a cinema studies school, or something to that effect.

They had a test screening for Exorcist Believer last week. I was there. OMG! It's much better than you guys think. They made a really good sequel to the original film (the original is my favorite horror film of all time). NO CGI, a really cool new score, Ellen Burstyn & Linda Blair back on screen. And the new girls are really great! A very strong script.
