What made the first Exorcist great is that it is not a story about the exorcism, but about a priest struggling with his faith and a mother willing to try anything to cure her daughter.
What made the first exercise great is that it was the first of its kind, once something already been done, you cannot replicate it and expect the same experiences, it’s like experiencing something for the first time and expecting it to feel the same the second time.
It’s a horror not a drama, lol. What made it great was that it was fucking terrifying. But it’s stances on politics and faith, not so much. You have to keep in mind that it was not literally intended to be a metaphor for abuse. Thats only an accident due to the fact that a large number of exorcisms were in fact just ways to hide abuse and those traits translated over
Not bad for your first time hosting, Julian. It takes a while to find your own groove, like Juicy did. So keep doing what you are doing. Also, I love the change of tone once in a while when it's Martin with somebody else. The content may be less funny and but it's always more interesting.
Original movie is so matter of fact with the lead-up to the possession and exorcism that it made the horror moments feel grounded in reality. Its not something easily replicated. Closest thing is Emily Rose
It’s hard to think about this movie as a stand-alone without its legacy because they brought back Ellen Burstyn, the woman who played Reagan’s desperate, grieving (I say grieving because she’s not mourning her daughter’s death, but she’s devastated) mother. They brought her character back because the father character wants to confide in someone who knows what it’s like to go through having a loved one who is possessed. They even showed a picture of Reagan from the original movie.
The Original Exorcist and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre have been those amazing horror films that were like their own lightning in a bottle they haven't captured twice in so many decades which is a real shame that Hollywood can't do.
If a crazy knife wielding maniac can kill teenagers for over 3 decades, why can't a girl get possessed by the devil.. 🤷♂️ There's very little originality in Hollywood storytelling at this point...
It’s a different taste in your mouth after realizing it was often just a way to hide abuse. Oh sure, demons are the reason they are saying sexually inappropriate things for their age. Please. It’s the catholic church, like c’mon
When the trailer first started I was like “Hmm this seems interesting.” It played a little longer & I saw that it was another possession film I was like “Oh God. I’m out 🙄” When the music started playing I was like “What?! This is coming out already? Damn that was fast.”
There have been tons of generic exorcism movies that were released years after the original Exorcist film. I don't see what a sequel to the iconic classic could bring to the table.
I was wondering if you all would react to this. They didn't get positive reaction to this movie. For me, I would love to see what James Wan would do. I think he's an amazing director.
Y'all should watch Abby fro 1974. It's roots are planted in the 1973 exorcist, but it does a lot of different things, such as having the possessed person leave the house and interact with the public. Plus it has a great cast and has Blacula himself William Marshall in it!
I can't stand this attitude where a director says their sequel ignores every sequel after the first film. Rarely are these requels good enough to disrespect all the movies and directors that came before. Every example I know of has embarrassed itself. This movie better be fucking fantastic or it will be a joke.
I know how you feel. Remember terminator dark date did the same thing, being a direct sequel to T2 while ignoring everything in between but was god awful it killed the franchise. Hell, T3 was underrated and if anything was way better then what came after. Congratulations Dark fate, you’re making T3 look great in comparison.
You know this isn't Korey because when he said he liked Paranormal Activity 3 and Martin didn't, he didn't say "I'm not saying you're wrong...", then proceeded to go on a long, rambling defense of Paranormal Activity 3 in order to explain to Martin WHY he was wrong.
The whole little girl getting possessed by a demon has been done to death at this point. Wanna know what makes Insidious so cool? It was about a little boy getting possessed by a demon… also it was terrifying. That’s how stale the demon possession is getting in movies as a result.
This train has sailed off with the exorcist movies like.. Isn't that's why it's called exorcist? Like the terminator movies? 🤦It's what it is duh like the predator movie or fast and furious. That's what they do with those pictures
As someone who got messed up from just merely seeing clips of the original on VH1 & absolutes refuses to see the full movie even I can say this lastest entry is a total Hollywood cash grab
Yeah kinda sus, and why is it always the catholic church hmmm. Usually kids too but for the life of me I just can’t come up with why they would need to make up some shit so they could accuse women and children of being possessed by lying demons. Hmmm 🤔
Just looks like another generic horror movie. I honestly thought it was some kind of prisoners rip off but then i heard a little bit of the piano theme play and knew immediately it was a requel lol
the two central performances look great, but the pace and direction seem to lack the proper atmosphere... it looks very conventional doesn't seem like it has a particular point it wants to make about faith, fear, spirituality, or humanity... just trying to scare scare scare scare ooooh so edgy and disturbing probably worth a viewing, but doesn't look like a new classic with a well-conceived story that sticks with you - hope i'm wrong
The FOX show was so great, it's like Terminator Salvation crapping all over Sara Connor Chronicles again. Screw original new directions for a franchise. More of the same :( sigh
Yeah that first season especially, just wish they coulda got Linda Blair and Ellen back to play their respective roles. Probably coulda focused on the daughter and then bring regan in at the last few episodes to drive home the connection
This is going to be a mediocre film with a bad story and little kids cursing. This has white and black demon kids. 😂 it’s The Exorcist teaming up with Abbi The Black Exorcist. Exorcist III: Legion is the best movie of this franchise.
What made the first Exorcist great is that it is not a story about the exorcism, but about a priest struggling with his faith and a mother willing to try anything to cure her daughter.
In other words, it told a story first and all the other interesting stuff came second or was a part of it 🤔.
What made the first exercise great is that it was the first of its kind, once something already been done, you cannot replicate it and expect the same experiences, it’s like experiencing something for the first time and expecting it to feel the same the second time.
Your absolutely right. And the director stayed true to the book.
It’s a horror not a drama, lol. What made it great was that it was fucking terrifying. But it’s stances on politics and faith, not so much. You have to keep in mind that it was not literally intended to be a metaphor for abuse. Thats only an accident due to the fact that a large number of exorcisms were in fact just ways to hide abuse and those traits translated over
except both of those things revolve around the exorcism which makes it a story about an exorcism and that’s perfectly ok. lol
Not bad for your first time hosting, Julian. It takes a while to find your own groove, like Juicy did. So keep doing what you are doing. Also, I love the change of tone once in a while when it's Martin with somebody else. The content may be less funny and but it's always more interesting.

Dang Coleman got all unseasoned.

That's actually what sold it for me
Glad to see Julian on more. Been enjoying his presence since the Spiderverse review.
The Original Exorcist and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre have been those amazing horror films that were like their own lightning in a bottle they haven't captured twice in so many decades which is a real shame that Hollywood can't do.
The Exorcist I agree with, but many people liked the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie
@@wood1066 yeah but to me the Original captured a natural horror to it, basically like watching insanity and claustrophobia unfolding

Does Stigmata come in mind
Because it has a black family
I was wondering if you all would react to this.
They didn't get positive reaction to this movie.
For me, I would love to see what James Wan would do. I think he's an amazing director.
I feel like they just showed us the whole film in this trailer. Hahaha. Toward the end, it looks like it has Hoodoo involved.
Looks damn good. I don't NEED it, but definitely willing to give it a chance.

except in this instance the actual sequel was terrible so i don’t think people will care that it’s being retconned.
@@alexandervelez9507 Requels are always made for that reason, and they still usually end up being terrible.
@@alexandervelez9507to be fair the third ones pretty good same writer and I hear people say the TV show was way better than expected.

I feel like the best modern take we got on The Exorcist was the shortlived show by Fox.
I was listening and thought it was cargill at first lol
You guys are reviewing everything but "They Cloned Tyrone".
I'd rather hear Koreys take on it tbh.
If that means a delay, meh.
probably saving it for korey
They’re most likely waiting for korey
Korey loves Boots Riley so I’m sure that’s why
Exorcism movies are right up there with zombie movies for me….too many of them now and not that interesting now.
theyre very formulaic
Exorcist VI: Double Trouble. -There's two them. I think they added this since it's the sixth one to have 6 films. To fulfill 6 collections.
Wanna hear Korey's take on this
The Evil Dead films are the best possession titles.
Korey looking more white than usual lol.
I'm a believer, couldn't leave her if I tried.
Corey is looking a bit pale today
You know this isn't Korey because when he said he liked Paranormal Activity 3 and Martin didn't, he didn't say "I'm not saying you're wrong...", then proceeded to go on a long, rambling defense of Paranormal Activity 3 in order to explain to Martin WHY he was wrong.
You should watch Ouija: Origin of Evil. That's the best possession movie since Emily Rose and the first Exorcist movie.
The whole little girl getting possessed by a demon has been done to death at this point. Wanna know what makes Insidious so cool? It was about a little boy getting possessed by a demon… also it was terrifying. That’s how stale the demon possession is getting in movies as a result.
We Need something New interesting and scary like when The Blair witch project come out. 🍿
Why is Blumhouse doing this and who asked for this?
This trailer scared the piss out of me
I don't know about yall, but I'm interested in seeing this
the exorcist is one of my favorite movies. this looks like crap but hey what else can we expect from the crew behind halloween kills and ends
I legit hated the mark ones
Lets get that Twisted Metal review
This train has sailed off with the exorcist movies like.. Isn't that's why it's called exorcist? Like the terminator movies? 🤦It's what it is duh like the predator movie or fast and furious. That's what they do with those pictures
Two Girls One Cult lol
I'm little worried about this. Since the director last movies were Halloween. 2018 was O.K. yet the sequels were bad. Green should stick to comedies.
I guess the Babadook was kind of sort of a possession movie in a way. It depends on how you look at it. I thought that was a good movie.
The trailer was Cringe. Misses the point of what made the first one a classic.
Agreed. Just looks whack!
As someone who got messed up from just merely seeing clips of the original on VH1 & absolutes refuses to see the full movie even I can say this lastest entry is a total Hollywood cash grab
Exorcist 3 was good and exorcism of Emily rose was great .
I would have just actually remade the movie instead of doing this
Why is it always women are getting possessed in these films
Yeah kinda sus, and why is it always the catholic church hmmm. Usually kids too but for the life of me I just can’t come up with why they would need to make up some shit so they could accuse women and children of being possessed by lying demons. Hmmm 🤔

I didn't think that
We need some new sequels to nightmare on elm Street and Friday the 13th, ghoulies was dope.
Horror films exaggerate way too much nowadays. The Exorcist 1973 is a classic that will never be and should never be replicated.
the two central performances look great, but the pace and direction seem to lack the proper atmosphere... it looks very conventional
doesn't seem like it has a particular point it wants to make about faith, fear, spirituality, or humanity... just trying to scare scare scare scare ooooh so edgy and disturbing
probably worth a viewing, but doesn't look like a new classic with a well-conceived story that sticks with you - hope i'm wrong
All of the Paranormal Activity movies sucked, my guy.
Pazuzu is back & this time he brought a funny black best friend!
The FOX show was so great, it's like Terminator Salvation crapping all over Sara Connor Chronicles again. Screw original new directions for a franchise. More of the same :( sigh

Wtf korey be on your show
I only like the third movie
Exorcist 3 has the best jump scare in cinema history as far as I'm concerned.
This shit looks awful. They need to leave the classics alone.
This looks like overproduced nonsense.
double toasted is always so negative, no wonder they've been on UA-cam for years and still haven't hit 50k
Its during Halloween season and on Oct 13 Friday 2023....not feeling your review....
How bout because it's real and happens all the time u just don't read the bible playa
Bruh

Wow, opposite reaction Ellen Burstien has me intrigued
This trailer scared the piss out of me
