Lot of bands play on rugs for a multitude of reasons, it provides better footing than a slippery stage, easier to stand on for prolonged periods of time, additional sound proofing on stage etc.

I still groove out to djent in 4/4, because despite its rhythmic intricacies, that’s what it simplifies out to on a hypermetric scale (for the most part)

I’ve been a guitar player and metalhead for over 35 years now, and I’ve been through so many journeys in learning, my style, and what I think sounds good. The older I get, the more I realize simple is better. The more complicated a piece gets, the more difficult it is for me to really feel, and feeling is why I got into music in the first place. A perfect example of this is Insomnium’s beautiful solo on their newer song “White Christ”. That solo just hits me so hard, while being extremely easy. Music is an art, and art is meant to make us feel and react.

Snarky Puppy got a roomful of ppl to actually create a basic polyrhythm by half of them clapping one rhythm and the other half clapping another. In this everyone is clapping the same 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. You do not need to be a musician to do any of that lol.
