Beeman QB78S - CO2 Gun with PCP accuracy for a budget price!

  • When you shoot the Beeman QB78S it might trick you in to thinking that it is a PCP gun but dont let it fool you its powered by CO2. This little Beeman is so accurate, has a great trigger and the build quality is WAY above what a lot of CO2 powered rifles offer. That is why the QB78S is a great choice for someone that values high quality airguns or for someone that wants to have PCP like accuracy but does not have access to high pressure air to refill their gun (and/or tank).
In this video Ben (the Outdoors Airgunner) takes out the Beeman QB78S and demonstrates the FPS with some shots over the chrony and then shows the accuracy this CO2 gun is capable of getting with a couple different pellets. The JSB 15.89s made a dime sized group and the Predator GTOs didnt do bad either.
The best part of the Beeman QB78S is that you get accuracy, build quality and great features for a super low price (in my opinion).
Man its a great time to be an airgunner!

Thanks for testing the QB. I picked one up about 2 yrs ago and was Amazed at how nice it is for the money! (QB78 D in wood .22) I have HW's,AA Pro Sport,Walther LGU and several pcp's and the QB has respectable attributes that make it Very enjoyable to shoot. Nice Job!

My Beeman QB78S in .177 is a tack driver at 25 yards. They seem a little crude but are great little rifles. Nice video!

Just had the .177 version of this little beauty delivered. The price was under $70 including shipping. I also have the wood stocked deluxe model. Both these sit atop the “bang for your buck” rating. But this one for sixty some bucks? It’s a mind blower. BTW: nice, fun to watch eval vid. Thanks for the effort.

I used to use a .177 qb and I think for the money there is nothing more accurate. With h&n ftt pellets it would do little finger nail size groups at 25 yards. The power was low in the .177, around 7ftlbs but still proved very effective on rabbits and squirrels under 25 yards. Highly recommend this gun!

I got a qb deluxe in 177 last year. it is accurate, trigger is really great for the price point of the rifle. I just started shooting it again last weekend . It had me thinking i need 22 qb. now you just made a vid on one thanks.it might be carma that i should pull the trigger on a 22.

I bought one of these just recently,.after watching your video here Ben, and you're right, the trigger is very good considering the cost of this 'Made in China' Beeman. I've installed a red dot sight as I knew I'd be shooting at or less than 20 metres.
I was surprised at the accuracy of this .177 cal CO2 powered rifle, and it is as quiet as the video shows us.
I'm well pleased with this 'back yard plinker', I'd certainly give it a Thumbs Up.
P.S. Yes it will easily drop a squirrel, I did so today at about 15 metres, perfect head shot, it went down like a rock.

I also have one QB78S and I totally agree, it is incredibly accurate (with crosman pointed pellets, gamo promatch)!! I would recommend, however, to let the gun "warm up" a little bit before removing the empty co2 canisters. The cap gets really tight and hard to unscrew; you might damage the seal. Just a precaution.😆😉

Aw hell man! These kind of vids are funny.
It is way hard to tell actual sizes in these. That rifle seems not that long in the shooting segment (coulda been a plastic kids toy rifle even) - or then the shooter is a way tall. And that target displayed up in the corner could have been a 12" target for all I woulda known - if not showed the walk to tve target with a dime in hand..😂😂
Good shooting! Thank you for the video. Seems like a fun CO2 rifle. Could even own one myself.😊👍

I need someone to critique an idea I have on the QB78 so here goes. I want to reduce the weight of it in .22 cal. to 3.8 lbs ish. and the length to 35”. My goal is to have something close to the Crosman 180 but since these are so rare and quite expensive, I was wondering if anyone had thoughts of doing this to make it more “youth” friendly. My niece is almost ready and can handle my 180 pretty good.

Just got a QB78S. Have had other .17 break barrels that had terrible accuracy-thought it had to be me. Using the QB and a red dot I'm getting close to dime size groups, too. Wondering if the break barrels close consistently every time or my scopes were just no good. Maybe old age? Not bragging, but in the service I fired expert and was company high shooter with the M16. (out of 160 troops). Love this 78S !!

I fully admit that I am not good wirh break barrels. I like multi-pumpers and CO2 shooters, and shoot them decently. I have not shot a high end break barrel though. I did recently pick up a lower powered hstsan Alpha, to see if a 500 fps springer will shoot better than my 1000 fps one.
Used to compete in 200 meter IHMSA open sigjt handgun matches, and 100 meter NRA Hunter Pistol matches (scoped). So, break barrel shooting was humbling.

Was looking to buy one of these for pest control. If I put the c02 containers in, I may only shoot it once or twice the day the c02 containers go in. How long can they be in the gun for while holding pressure? Can I leave them in there for weeks on end of the gun isn’t being used? Or do they bleed off over time? Basically I don’t want to have to put in new c02 containers every time I have to use the rifle….

The down side to co2 is that you shouldn’t leave them in. Rather look at the air Venturi dragonfly mark II. It’s a multi pump with a magazine. Check our Airgun Angie’s GRiP review on The Gateway to Airguns.

Eric, it may simply need to be cleaned or adjusted. If it's still under warranty, then I would have the manufacturer deal with it for you. If not, then there are folks that can work on it, but it may likely cost a lot more to fix it than to simply replace it.

The gun in this video is typical of these right out of the box....underpowered and in dire need of some TLC. They CAN be an awesome rifle but it takes a little work. First of all these are shipped from China and they protect the inside of the barrel with some really sticky grease which you need to thoroughly clean out. If the seals are all OK out of the box then you have been very lucky. Not that it matters as you need to strip it and polish ALL the moving parts which means resealing it anyway. For all the seals exposed to 'liquid' CO2 such as the main valve and the cap you must use either synthetic or EPDM O rings as Buna Nitrile doesn't cut it. They all need a coating of silicone grease. The valve head needs reshaping to improve gas flow and the transfer port seal needs to be increased in diameter. The probe ports need opening up too but be careful as it is easy to break the end of the probe off if you drill it. I use diamond grinding bits. The trigger is single stage but pretty nice. You can smooth it out by polishing the sears and shimming out the slack in the side play. It is fully adjustable for pressure and travel. The best thing you can do is buy the QB79 and fit a regulated 13 cu in regulated air bottle and dispense with CO2 but then you need a means of filling it. You do get more consistent shots though as it is regulated. The 78 can be converted to air too. All you need is a 79 gas block, barrel band and slight mods to the stock and main tube. I have been tuning and modding these for over 20 years and provided you get a good barrel (most are) you have a pretty accurate small vermin gun. The .177 is a bit harder to tune than the .22 . The .22 can produce muzzle energy up to 35ftlb with little effort and research found on the internet. Just don't fall foul of your countries firearms laws and ALWAYS CHRONO! BTW They benefit greatly by using and extended bolt handle. The OEM one isn't particularly good. Easy to make and fit one as they are only held in by one grub screw. Also you can buy a manual indexing magazine. There have been auto indexing magazines made for them but they were never very successful due to the prohibitive cost. They just weren't worth it.

you should do your math's right, villosity, time's villosity (in fps), time's weight (in grans), divided by 450240, = ft' lbs in striking energy, so you had 472 ftps x 472ftps x 15.89grns bevided by 450240 = 7.862557213 ft,lbs now that may smart somewhat if your shot in the rear end, but it wont kill you! but it will pee you off!
