That is stunning, and loved the tales around how it became like this. Just love how people’s imagination works when they can’t explain things. Brilliant
unusual tales especially The Virgin bit😄 it was an experience to go up there, glad you enjoyed
I enjoyed this Dale it’s definitely remarkable this spire is still standing 🙏🏼
Amazing to see what the bracing is like inside ! And the Roman temple pillar’s (wow)
Enjoyed and fascinating as always 👌🏻
Best wishes Simon 🤠👍
Thanks, Simon it was amazing up there, the recording suffered somewhat but you can see what they did👍
Great close-up footage of the spire, inside and out. The inside spire twisted structure timbers that have the additional support timbers looks like a right old shambles, although I'm sure each piece was added to stabilise the structure, it reminded me of the sticks your insert in in the game KerPlunk 😂. I see people have also scribed their names in the lead. A great video, I enjoyed seeing all the footage you took and information✌️
it was close up because i was clinging to it😆and yes Kerplunk I knew it reminded me of something, it did look haphazard but it's said to be organized chaos glad you enjoyed it
Wow that really is twisted. There was a church I knew in Devon that had a twisted spire, and I believe Salisbury Cathedral has one but the Chesterfield spire is something else
It is and to get the chance to go up there was mint
Looks tricky that spiral staircase. 👍
It was with my size twelves and the steps were well worn
That looks quite a challenge. That balustrade's so low I think I would not go near the edge either. And the Death Stairs!! well, all good fun!
The stairs i could cope with even with size twelves but panicked as soon as I got out the top and slid along the lead of the spire, worst bit was a kid around ten leaning over the balustrade looking down, which still makes my toes curl thinking of it🥴
@@Traveler13 haha.. probably wandering where best to spit!.. kids hey?? ! No I'm the same.. sometimes I'm fine.. sometimes the energies spin, and I am just struck by vertigo. Had the same feeling walking round scaffolding on the roof of Rosslyn Chapel.. it felt like I was standing on a wild energy spot, and I wasn't grounded!!
@@TheWitchInTheWoods When much younger i used to clamber up roofs with ease until I had a job where they sent me up a triple ladder in the wind and it slid at least a foot, and would not go up again🤐
@@Traveler13 heck. with you there.
Never seen inside! Wow coffin lid used as a sill! 😮seen the spire many times! Thanks for the tour up!
Worth a visit it is quite spectacular
@ I didn’t even know you could tour it Dale!
@@RaymondoLeeTravel i happened to spot it on tinternet, they do it on Saturday when the peregrin falcons are not nesting and only a tenner, but cant book you have to turnup and hope there is space
@ ah ok cool! 👌
Love the story about the virgins lol. Imagine making a folk story up about the lack of virgins in your town!
Its mad isn't it, i had to add it as I thought it was so unusual
