Man, your face when that engine said poooooooofffffffffff. PRICELESS!!!! Glad you gave it a second run James. Thanks for the vids and work....
🤣
The reason you're much faster in the straights is that you have the boost pressure set at 100%, the default is 80%.
Hmmm, interesting, didn't think I changed that
@@Jaaames Changing any settings in AMS2 would remain there whether you save it to a new profile or not so you may have set the boost pressure in a previous race.
And all of the other cars were also likely at 80% turbo boost pressure.
@@yamyam60 you seem to know alot about AMS2 , i changed my ffb settings by downloading a text file and overwrite the default, but i dont like the new one, they are even weaker, so i would like to change back to the original ffb text file settings, do you know how to do that? Or get better ffb in general, i have t300rs wheel. Thanks in advance
@@danielm978 If you downloaded a text file it would be in the custom ffb settings, if you select default ffb it shouldn't be effected.
The C9 is allround epic, difficult to tame but so rewarding.
All that speed with just 5 gears and man, that sound. Very hangry i love it.
What a weapon
Great combo!
The obscure south American tracks are a lot of fun and shouldn't be overbooked.
If you predominantly race offline (which I do) then you can't go far wrong with AMS2. I especially love multi-class races with the multitude of prototypes in the game, though the classic open wheelers and Brazilian stockcars are great fun too.
Are we watching the same video? This was AI at 120. The game is inconsistent.
Mental how many people recommend the Brazilian stockcars, need to see what all the fuss is about
Agreed. I'm personally really enjoying the Porsche Cup cars currently. Excited for the IMSA drop that's coming
@@Jaaames It's like a GT3, but V8 and zero downforce
I totally agree ams2 is great for off line racing
Thanks for making another video on AMS2 James.
🤝
AMS2 have come a long way but unfortunatly many cars still feels disconnected from the road in my opinion. The new F-Ultimate Gen 2 is the only car with the new tirer model , they feel more connected, sharper and they don't tolerate slip as much as the other cars. The LMDH feels a lot more connected too
The 2024 Brazilian Stock Cars have the new tyre model as well.
The CART-series are fine as well (F USA).
@@therevjt85 just tried them and they feel pretty good! This gives me hope for the next update
the porsche 963 is so fun to drive on this game, so satisfying
@@hp2823 Did you try it in LMU since the last update? I think I like it even more
Great AMS2 video! I was watching it on the telly, while we were getting ready for dinner, and my better half shouted from the kitchen - she's gonna blow! 10secs later, amidst my saying how ignorant she was, the engine was out! I'm expecting the "I told you so" 's to the ends of time.
More combos please, as this video made me wanna install AMS2 too :)
I've been saying for ages that we need to get a bunch of ACC/iRacing/Raceroom esports drivers together on a top-level Group C tournament in a sim with good weather and day/night transitions like AMS2 or iRacing. Just put the best sim drivers out there in these death machines and put them through a good 5-10 rounds of absolute chaos at 350kph. I would genuinely pay real actual money to watch it
Would be something a bit different for sure, I'd be down😅
I agree. Take my money lol. Seriously James, pitch the idea to some simtubers and pros. Do it for charity. Sim racing needs a good wholesome event.
Been doing AC and ACC for years. Bought a Quest 3 last month and they recommended AMS2. So I gave it a go and fell in love. It's just such fun. Sure it's more forgiving than AC and ACC, but man... the immersion in VR and the amount of brutal fun. No comparison.
Such fun
In the end it's all about fun. I've just seen yesterday a reddit post about how much Pcup in iRacing is broken and that they still force themselves to drive it. But what's the point of suffering in your own freetime for your own money...
Ams2 is the king of VR
@@danbaranovwhy do you say it is broken?
I need a new VR headset for sure
You need to try the new 1.6 tire model it's only on 2 cars at the moment, the gen 2 modern f1 car and the 2024 stockcars. It's like a totally different sim
James, glad you had time to set a few things up and then have a much better experience. Spot on with the sliding physics issue, hope that can get sorted out someday soon.
💯
Sliding could be because the track is not rubbered in. I was having that issue for a bit and never realized it was set to green. Default progression will start the track green and after some time it'll rubber in, less sliding
James get yourself the Frex H shifter. A guy makes them in Japan. Its excellent. It is based on the Porsche 962 so it's very mechanical in feel. Highly recommended. Doesn't cost a hand and a leg either.
"Take the tea bag out of the cup you scruff!"
😂😂😂😂😂
Never
Thanks for doing another video on AMS 2. Tyre model has been under revision - again- for a couple of weeks. That should make slip angles more realistic - i.e. you won't be able to abuse them as you just pointed out in this video. I hope Reiza will get it right.
@@____________________ok There is no perfect sim - so I play most of them and pick the combos I enjoy.
No worries, yep if that get's fixed it'll be right up there as one of the best overall sims.
Lol that money shift! Also update 1.6 should be fixing the slip angle issue for all cars (also bringing IMSA!). The Brazilian Stock car 2024 has the new tire model currently , but if you’re not sick of AMS2 testing this summer, try it post 1.6 update! The SC24 feels pretty good in that regard now I think.
Why would they fix the slip angle physics they deny was ever a problem.
@@truantray, I think they're pretty clear that it's incremental progress. No one update is going to "fix" the game, but there's also no such thing as a "perfect" sim. And, for what it's worth, Reiza have made a ton of progress.
Will give AMS2 a try post 1.6 update then👌
@@Jaaames Hey man, awesome job at Jeddah, was cheering from Chicago, USA! Would love to hear your opinions about v1.6 (since you're one of the most credible sources of sim-racing realism in GT3 racing). Seems like some people think it's still too slippy (me included), while others think it's fine. Very curious about your opinion (and maybe what the most realistic GT3 sim currently is in your opinion). Good luck with a full season seat next year with garage59!
Nice man. Welcome back James! One thing about camera shake. If you can and want to race more you could reduce camera movement in options. You will feel better racing in AMS2. Also it will reduce slide feeling.
Thank you! I'm pretty sure all my camera movement options were on zero?
@@Jaaames Ok good. Thanks for covering AMS2 :)
Absolutely love driving these group c cars on Gt7, this c9 is frighningly good. Can't imagine how good it will be on here
I just switched to this from GT7... this a sim.. GT7 is an arcade game.. and ive played gt7 from day 1
Driving the C9 around Le Mans through the night approaching 350+ km/h must have been a brutal experience irl
Can't even imagine how mad that must have been
The C9 on Spa is one of my fav combos. Fell in love with the car purely on sound at first lol. You need to get a Quest 3 with Kiwi design headset with battery pack for over 3 hours of play, decent WiFi 6e router as AMS2 excels in VR ( I play over steam link).
Yep, need a new VR headset real soon
Imigine being old enough to remember watching them live on TV if you had cable TV back then. I was lol
It is not just the lateral distance which affects using a shifter. It should be in line with the wheel.
I still find it an odd combo,
Jump in one of the new cars that has the new tyre model / physics.
The formula ultimate 2 (F1)
Brazilian stocks 2024
GT3 gen2
Even the LMDH
Max AI - mandatory pit stop 👍🏻
I also went back to default+ over custom since the updates - it’s improved so much.
Even with the new physics, the cars are still too forgiving at the limit.
Didn't think Group C at Le Mans would be an 'odd' combo?😅
@@JaaamesI think he just meant for the sake of testing the updated physics
The Fanatec shifter can also play up and give wrong shifts if you dont secure the slider for switching from sequential to h-pattern from moving off slightly from its position.
This bad boi arrived yesterday... heusinkveld.com/shop/shifters-handbrakes/magshift/
Great video - playing in VR (quest 3), HUD off and crew chief is amazing!
Angle the shifter towards yourself a little bit so that shift from 3rd to 4rd won't feel like you're having to push it away. And then 3rd to 2nd misshift is much harder to make ;)
Yep, will do😅
You should try Formula Ultimate Gen2 and Stock Car 2024, they have the most recent tyre model.
lol "like every update this game has"
@@stickdeath1980, the game continues to improve with every update. That's how the updates work. 🤷🏼♂️
@@flyingphoenix113 Let's hope the player base improves
Copy that👍
nice video as always!
one thing I always comment on people playing AMS2 is that in this game it feels easier to push the car over the limit...this is OK for timetrials, short races or when the damage and tirewear is off..
but this video really shows the consequences of trying to drive over the limite for longer stints
great racing, keep it up =D
Blew up the motor freaking crazy. The dampness on the track due to the fog is also a grip issue. Lmao
First of all, congratulations on the Jeddah result!!! And revisiting this video, need a review of the McLaren 720S EVO GT3 in AMS2 1.6 now that this is out.
To be fair, I think that the Group C cars (and older 70s, 80s, early 90s cars) are supposed to be more slippery.
These cars had nowhere near as good tires as we did today. Heck, try driving the 70s F1s in rfactor 2, AC, or iRacing, any sim basically. And you'll feel that the car is really quite slidey compared to new cars.
Tire technology made massive leaps in the 90s and especially 2000s-2010s specifically. I love to go on Rfactor 2 and or AC to drive through the v10 f1 cars (from 90s to 2005). You can feel a solid step up in tire performance from 1990 to 1993/1994 then a huge leap to 1997, then in 1998 F1 introduced grooved tires to slow the cars down (but it didnt really work) by around 2002/2003/2004 you feel like you have sooo much grip despite still having that understeery characteristic of groived tires. Then once you get to 2009-2013 (when slicks came back) it feels like a modern race car with so much more potential for speed - held back only by F1 regulations limiting horsepower & aero complexity.
Anyway....I think AMS 2 really shines with its vintage cars, like 70s F1, 80s F1 and even 90s F1 to an extent. The slideyness nature of these older cars with primitive tire technology lends itself well to ams2 and they do not feel far off at all from Rfactor 2 or AC. Also just in general ams 2 does pretty good with high downforce prototypes more than anything else I think.
I'd love to see Reiza lean into this, their strength. Like do a vintage le mans pack, or lmp900 pack (or expand gt1), and focus on some old classes from the 70s & 80s with wild aero kits like group 4, group 5, group 6 etc. these cars were actually in project cars 2 and some have been ported to AC by modders, but they arent on par with Reizas quality at all (no offence to thundeflash the modder, you have some great mods, just not feeling all of them).
What "custom" FFB file are you running? Would have been nice to have left that link in your description.
I've been hotlapping the LMDh Cadillac so much around Le Mans, it's great fun, I'm thinking of looking for a league or something for hypercars
James in terms of VR i give two suggestions. If you the patience tinker with oculus debug tool and openxr toolkit to make the most of it.
On the other hand u can easily dispatch your rift and get a 2nd hand VR with good quality, in a decente state and price. Something like a Reverb G2 or the Quest 3 (seen a lot of people selling those cheap on vinted due to not having time to use so they end up being almost new)
If you think that fanatecs loud you should build/buy an SRT shifter from Lebois racing. Best thing I did for H pattern cars
Any louder and my neighbours will get me evicted🤣
Yeah tx for the vid, proper fun with some combo's!
🤝
Well done on the video James!
🤝
About the sliding, I think I understand why cause I can make it stop when I play AMS2. Its the wheels inertia, after braking the rear wheels are 'light' so to speak and their spin is slightly under the speed youre actually traveling, if you tap the accelerator to re-sync the wheel speed to your actual speed youll find the rear grips everytime and stays solid.
tl;dr I think the slip ratio in AMS2 is off, and you have to be more aware of wheel speed to actual speed disparity, but once you learn to tap the accelerator after heavy braking to keep the rear wheels synced, it becomes a lot more solid. Its the same physics that cause speed wobble on motorbikes if you get me
also turn down engine resistance, its huge
Interesting, I turned engine braking up to the max, should it be the other way?
You should give the F1 Hitechs for a spin: fully simulated active suspension, abs, traction control, launch control.. even rudimentary DRS (depending on year and chassis)!
One thing ill note, live track 3.0 is SOOO good that its bad (for some things). I rarely ever do a 60x race, because the track conditions change so much and so quickly that it can be a very jarring experience even going from a cloudy > sunny setting. Rain + 60x time progression is unusable
Even professionals can money shift. Good job man.
James, you really need to get a Quest 3 and try full VR. AMS2 shines best when it's immersive, and if anyone can say how close that immersion is to what it is like in the car, it would be you. Get in that McLaren and let us know!
love the editing:)

Curious to see your thoughts on Gran Turismo 7 physics, Cars and online experience.
Haven't played GT7 yet, need to buy a PS first!
p1 gen2 are amazing, turn down the tyres volume, you won't feel the car sliding as much, it's more a sound/mental issue than a ffb issue.
Proper driver. Show the car no mercy...............😜
🤣
I always swap to a round wheel when using my shifters
Thank you so much for the proper go to AMS2
🤝
my personal take on AMS2 is that there is something going on with the differential. not only on power, but also on coasting, braking, corner entry. I find that low LSD clutch numbers (I think I use 2 on the Sauber C9) actually fixes all of the "slidey-floaty" behavior. With this setup the cars become much more prone to push understeer and coast gently. I find it much more natural, "realistic" (to me) and reliable.
And this is valid on all cars I have tried it to.....
Also the best sim for me to go to for my 4 actuators motion setup. Ac has nothing on this motion wise.
More AMS2! I haven't had this much in a racing game since I was dumping quarters into Pole Position II at Shakey's
Whatever that means😅😂
@@Jaaames GenX translator: Pole Position II was an arcade machine racing game of the late 1980s that cost 25 cents to play that could be found at local pizza shops like Shakey's in the US 😅

Pcars 3 is aweful
Tbh AMS2 should be Project Cars 3😂
@@Jaaames Totally - I get that there is still the question mark on the physics in areas (whilst other times it feels bloody fantastic) but it absolutely has PCars in its DNA - I just love the pick up and play aspect of AMS2/PC1/2 whilst still maintaining a sense of realism/authenticity all whilst being super immersive. Pcars 3 should be buried deep and forgotten about...
The slip angle abuse will be fixed during the summer with the V1.6 update. Drive the Stock car 2024 and F-Ultimate gen 2 to get a feeling of it
thanks ,good to know
ah man ... i have been on board since release , and the most used catch phrase for AMS2 has to be "physics will be fixed in the next update " ..... will love to believe it when i see it

Hi! What do you think about Formula Hitech Gen 1 (F1-1992) in AMS2?
I'd really like for you to give it another go once 1.6 is out in a few weeks. It's supposed to fix the physics issue where it's faster to drift cars around corners.
Yeah the slip angle is too forgiving. In the CLK GTR you literally power slide out of every apex. On another note, try Gran Turismo 7 if ya can!

Also the Super V8s! All a lot of fun!

ive never played a racing sim before but id really like to get into it. Im torn between this and Assetto corsa competizione, which would you reccomend? or is there any other racer you would recommend?
Good work. You should try giving VR a shot in AMS2! It changes everything
AMS2 is the most immersive sim IMO (especially in VR), has great performance in terms of FPS for good looking graphics, and pretty solid AI (definitely better than AC or even ACC IMO).
The constant sliding is the one issue that has been plaguing it's physics since the dawn of time, even though it has improved through updates.
For this summer they have announced another big update with big tyre physics changes across all cars and more physics improvements, so I'm very hopeful for that update.
yep they r fixing the sliding with the next big patch might be a few cars that will still need work but i think the formula ult gen 2 has the newest of the new physics right now the few that do. British sim drivers have the shifter on the right side, me an American put shifter on left side. when u know u know. a little shifting trick i use turn ur hand to the inside once u get past 2nd thumb down pinkie on top it holds it's weird but when ur going for 4th or 6th the hand knows where to go so much better.
I am curious to know which custom ffb file was used here, to me right now all the custom ffb profiles i've tried gave me lower laptimes than the default or default+.
15:52 I definitely got taken out by AI like this 😄 Interlagos going into turn 4 in the middle of the braking zone!
Which custom FFB did you go for in the end ?

man imagine this thing with more down-force. an aero package would do it right?
it's come along way (still lagging behind others) and offline it can be fun, but the car handling still feels Terrible. it feels disconnected/floaty and cars are still very very hit and miss. I hope they get the floating car feeling and the brake problems sorted and fix the bloody triple screen implementation. something is not right with it either. lots of potential but Reiza have never got the madness engine working correctly? or if they have.... then maybe it was a bad decision.

Would it be possible James to provide a link to the one you are using please as I have a Simucube drive?
I love racing in Ams2. Super fun
I can see why
I'm not familiar with your channel but based on the number of videos on iRenting and ACC you have, I can understand the amount of hate in the comments.
I suppose I'd be defensive too if I paid hundreds to rent a game and a better one costing a few bucks came along.

Hey and thanks for this video! 🙏🏽 Sorry, but why don't you use the clutch the way like it's meant to be? That's weird and the engine blows! 😂So you can also use your GT3-wheel-shifters and autoclutch. And one question is left: Do you like realism in a simulation or not?
when using rain/real weather, x10 time/weather accel is the most one should use for good results.
the amount of rain/track wetness is directly linked to the accel, and default for each slot is 1 hour. so if it's starts to rain and its set to say x60 or sync to race, in a single minute the track could get an hours worth of water, making it unplayable and the AI unpredictable results.
with x10 the results are very, very good and predictable
Interesting, makes sense, will give that a try.
hey there.. just curious - what custom ffb files have you gone for? theres a few different ones, couldnt decide so i let it (ams2) cook for a while...

What ffb profile are you using now? How can i install it?
Would like to see you do the modern-day GT cars on AMS2 as well. Or more of a comparison to the other sims like ACC.
A general GT3 comparison video is something I'm thinking about doing
It's been asked by several others, but I'd like to add my request - what FFB file did you go with? I'm using an Asetek Invicta (i.e. good equipment) and would love advice on which FFB is best for high quality direct drives rather than a Logitech G920 or something. BTW, anyone setting up the game on this type of equipment needs to ensure all the assists are off. I just figured out that AMS2 defaults to several on which will TOTALLY screw up the feel of the cars on direct drive wheels.

AMS 2 in VR is flipping amazing, Many nights I have had some flipping good races in VR with AMS 2, AMS 2 got VR flipping amazing, The multiplayer some nights, Oddly enough I find Thursday nights the best, lol, But yeah most evenings AMS 2 got a great bunch of people in there, Reiza have done a Fantastic job with AMS 2, I would love to try AMS 2 using a Pimax Crystal with an i9, 4090 specs PC, In ultra on a Pimax, And high spec PC, I bet AMS 2 is mind blowing, I am only running an i5 12600k and a 12gb 3060 and AMS 2 looks great, And I just got the Quest 2 and flipping heck, Monaco has become fun, I hated Monaco before I tried VR, It is even better with a 90s F1 car, Plus the Time Trail part on AMS 2 is also good for practicing some Hot Laps and trying to get the top 5, I have managed 15th place on the Nordsliefe using a McLaren MP4, I want the top 10 next lol, still though 6.06 ain't to shabby, lol....
Yeah for me AMS 2 and Dirt Rally 2 along with Euro Truck 2 for a relaxing evening, Is the best VR Sim Racing I have found so far, Still early days with VR as well, I also hear that iRacing is meant to be good in VR, If you have not tried AMS 2 in VR, Then you should, Your Monitor of TV won't be used anymore after using either the Quest 2 or 3....
A new VR headset will be purchased soon, that I have no doubt.
@@Jaaames Bro, I am not kidding, Compared to 2 years ago when I tried VR last, I was struggling to stick with VR, Now 2 years later after trying VR, I can't get off VR lol, And for me AMS 2 got VR looking and oddly enough seems to be much more how sim racing should be, You will be busting new lap records in VR on AMS 2, I will see James's name at the top stop on time trails next, lol, You is fast though bro, I would love to see you on AMS 2 one night, That be great to have people like yourself busting AMS 2 lobbies, I am not kidding AMS 2 have actually got a good bunch of online players now, Could be the VR thing lol....
Do a video when you get a VR headset, No doubt you will because it would be great content, A full on Race Driver racing in VR explaining VR, Bro you could even do You Tube Coaching you is that fast brother....
Yeah it would actually be great to see yourself on an Online Lobby in VR, I bet more and more people would grab a VR headset if yourself was promoting it so to speak, lol, People will be screaming, I Had James Baldwin in my lobby, lol, You would make some dudes year, lol...
Nor jokes aside AMS 2 in VR got something extremely addictive about it, A different world from watching yourself on a screen, It is why I am still scratching my head wondering why Pro Sim Racers are still even using triples, And with the straps like the WaveVR Elite battery strap with a 5000mAH battery I can sit there with the Quest on all night, At least 6 hours anyways, Without the elite strap no way, The strap acts as a counter weight see, And it connects at the back, The Quest 3 is meant to be fantastic by the way, I am using the Quest 2, And wish I just payed the extra for the Quest 3, I would get the Big Screen Beyond if I could afford it though, The Quest 3 is meant to be the best for bang for your buck because of the AR part...
I love the fact that VR is helping people who suffered a stroke gain motor functions back using the Oculus, Also how VR can teach, Educate people to do things they thought they couldn't do, VR can give people the confidence to do what they wants to do by using VR before, VR can even bring education to poor countries, But for Sim Racing, VR has opened up doors creating a new lease of life so to speak, Because when you have tried VR you won't go back to your Monitor, TV companies and monitors will start coming down in price, People will use VR to watch TV now, You can watch TV in private now while people will be people, lo, Panasonic will have to make a pair of TV glasses lol....
But yeah be great to see if VR actually makes you faster, If it does then flipping heck, lol......
Stay safe yeah......
HI James get this or Me Mans ultimate ?
Does anyone know what custom ffb files is James refering to?
They have a new update version 1.6 you should try it out
Difficulty is different if you drive against same cars
One shouldn't have to go through or setup a bunch of specific things to make the game "Good". So you need to use a particular "Combo"? The game should be enjoyable straight out the box. Anything else, like VR, is a bonus.
