But when you’re stuffing yourself in a buffet your brain tells the muscles in your stomach to relax, which causes the stomach to be able to expand and hold about 2 liters instead of just 1 (as shown in the video)

As someone who previously had bulimia and now suffers with binge eating, i assure you that the human stomach can hold a LOT more than you'd think. I've drank a whole liter of water in a sitting before, and this is on top of the usual 8 pounds of food I eat during binges. If you push yourself to the limits, your body can do crazy things.

This was interesting for me because I have a rare chronic illness, Gastroparesis and dysfunction through the GI system. I also have two Jejunal feeding tubes, NJ and a surgical JEJ/PEJ. All feeds are delivered to my Jejunum (an area in the small intestine for the people that don’t know). I try to bring awareness to the Gastroparesis as much as I can.
I followed a girl who unfortunately passed away from multiple different illnesses and this is one of them. So I'm trying to educate myself with the world of zebras as they say. As I was watching this, it made me wonder how people that take on those massive food challenges do it? That small stomach doesn't look anywhere near big enough to hold all those burgers, fries, steaks and fried eggs that they eat in one go 🤯

(training to suppress the gag reflex, hyperstretching the stomach, fasting a few weeks before challenge, eating really quickly, suppressing the hunger suppression if possible, etc.) It's not healthy either, it's been linked to quite a few major problems and if anything, it makes me worry for the people who do that for a job. /gen /info

Correct. But what really overrules this are the hormones and nervous system that are taught by your habits to receive portions that cause all this, in the very end cause obesity.
One of my supervisors developed a serious condition a couple of years ago. Her stomach stops contracting and churning food. Food can’t be broken down in her stomach from enzymes, causing a whole lot of digestive problems and inability to absorb nutrition, she lost a lot of weight and is constantly tired. She can only eat certain types of food and must under eat.
I've actually drank so much liquid that when I move, I can feel and hear the fluids swishing in my stomach. When I first realized it as a kid, it freaked me out and was cool. The feeling of the water was even stranger

I think my stomach has been stretched a lot. There have been just 4 moments in my entire life where I’ve felt “full”. The first when I was 11 when I went out for a Chinese with my paternal grandparents. It was so delicious. But that was the first time I ever felt full. The other three times were all on a week long trip to New York. Seriously guys. Your portions are fucking massive. I think the fact that 75% of the times I’ve felt full in my life I was in America shows something. But because I’m almost never not hungry I have to have some semblance of self control. I constantly want to eat and it’s really infuriating. I have enough control that I’m not massively obese. But I’m definitely overweight. Chubby you might say. I wish my stomach was smaller. Feeling hungry permanently fucking sucks.

The variable stretch explains why some people can do really well on eating schedules like one meal a day or two meal a day. The nutrient and caloric density of the food makes a difference too. Very cool.
Can you do a video on how sleeping on one side or the other impacts digestion. I was told that it’s better to sleep on your left side rather than the right because since the stomach is on your left side, digestion continues if you sleep on your left side. When you lay on your right side, you can get acid reflux because your food digestion stops and begins to back up into your esophagus.

One of my supervisors developed a serious condition a couple of years ago. Her stomach stops contracting and churning food. Food can’t be broken down in her stomach from enzymes, causing a whole lot of digestive problems and inability to absorb nutrition, she lost a lot of weight and is constantly tired. She can only eat certain types of food and must under eat.

I've actually drank so much liquid that when I move, I can feel and hear the fluids swishing in my stomach. When I first realized it as a kid, it freaked me out and was cool. The feeling of the water was even stranger

I think my stomach has been stretched a lot. There have been just 4 moments in my entire life where I’ve felt “full”. The first when I was 11 when I went out for a Chinese with my paternal grandparents. It was so delicious. But that was the first time I ever felt full.
The other three times were all on a week long trip to New York. Seriously guys. Your portions are fucking massive. I think the fact that 75% of the times I’ve felt full in my life I was in America shows something.
But because I’m almost never not hungry I have to have some semblance of self control. I constantly want to eat and it’s really infuriating. I have enough control that I’m not massively obese. But I’m definitely overweight. Chubby you might say.
I wish my stomach was smaller. Feeling hungry permanently fucking sucks.

I was told that it’s better to sleep on your left side rather than the right because since the stomach is on your left side, digestion continues if you sleep on your left side.
