i saw tony at batley variety club1974, he was simply awesome, he got a standing ovation, 30yrs later he got another standing ovation at the longbridge social club birmingham, i am a huge fan, he is up there with the very best ,
Weltstar ...............nicht das Pudding Pulver was man heute oft hört ........Musik mit Melodie Höhen und Tiefen und ganz viel Gefühl ..............Danke ............Reinhard Engel
I was fortunate to see Tony Christie at The Fiesta (now closed) in Sheffield and it was a night to treasure. Tony has a truly great voice with such power and he sings effortlessly. One of the greats from ye olden days when people recognised and appreciated true talent.
I spent 2 years of my Air Force career in the UK, you hear this song at least once a week. It was written by Neil Sedaka while he was living in the UK in the 70’s..
Neil sedaka whom I saw In concert in Sheffield in 2006 and was wonderfull wrote the music for this great song. When is he going to perform at Glastonbury?. From Michael from Yorkshire and proud of it.
tony was singing in his home town of conisbrough south youkshire last night. big fest to help good courses. still a great bloke and got the crowd pumping..
Conisbrough is my hometown and Tony Christie is one of Conisbrough's most famous sons.I would have loved to have been at the Miner's Welfare ground to see him play in front of a home crowd. His brother Neal taught History at Northcliffe comprehensive when I was there 1981-86.
Hello, as a Canadian who grew up in the 1960's and 1970's I don't recall hearing of Tony. Can anyone give me the in-a-nutshell musical story of Tony? Thanks
Like your comment great song and no 1 for 7 weeks. Fantastic singer still going strong today. I am always wonderful when he's other classic Las Vegas will be released again . Just listen to it it's a classic ! 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Tony Christie is, among other things, an English Schlager singer. This song, written by Neil Sedaka, is a fine example. I attended a concert by one of Germany's top Schlager singers, Michelle, two years ago in Berlin, and Amarillo was the only non German song she sang. Schlager may be typically German but Britain has produced some great Schlager singers: Tony Christie, Ireen Sheer, Roger Whittaker and Ross Anthony.
OVERJOYED that Tony got invited to Glasto, mind you most of the schoolies and teenyboppers there havent a CLUE who he is🤷🏼♂️ Fair do’s to the fella the ONLY bloke who has ever worn a WHISTLE on stage😳
I love oldies artists like Tony who didn't make it big here in the US. If you know any others, let me know. I think Kim Wilde's dfather Marty had a few UK hits.
His voice hasn't weathered Too well, but with this golden oldie he can still stir a crowd to ecstasy. My fav version of this song was deleted off UA-cam; it had Sedaka on piano with Christie billowing this precious jingle. The men may be like chalk and cheese but I think they are more like two cheeses, a soft centred, sensitive Brie melting away underneath the plump, optimistic Amarillo - correction! Mozzarella of course. Sedaka is the candle, Christie is its wick, together they are dynamite. I don't think they realise how well they compliment each other.
Daned my nights away to this song,,,,,,,,,,, Beautifully sung by Tony still a favorite at mature age.
Das ist der beste Beweis,daß Musik die Völker verbindet und nicht trennt. Danke Tony 🎼🎶🎩🎩👍

Love it. He does it so effortlessly. Great crowd too.
I wish his song "I did what I did for Maria" would get a revival too. It actually peaked at number 2 back in the seventies.
