47 years of age here, all I remember is my DAD singing this all the way to work and along with the 8track player in his Ford Capri, I met Tony a few years ago now and he signed my cassette I bought off him :)
Toni, Toni, Toni! What a Great Singer & Entertainer saw him yesterday in Harlem, Netherlands and he's still in very Good shape, even he's older than in the Days of my Parents youth, he's still Great. Thank's to Mother Earth that this Man is still around. Hollyday Greatings from the Netherlands where TC is on Tour.
Remember this song being placed at premier league play off final in Cardiff. Think the whole stadium sang along and waving flags awesome sight still gives goosebumps whenever I hear it.
I've only just worked out that the guy on the treadmill is kind of a tribute to when Peter Kay did it, he was on a treadmill with Parky & Ronnie Corbett.
@@tonychristis8097 By the way check out the book "1971 never a dull moment", by David Hepworth. It is an indepth book about the music of that year. The same year that you had your biggest hit Amerillo.
Tony Christie is God... 16 April 1972 ... I'm eight years old and returning to Waterford on a coach from Cork after Waterford had nicked three goals in the last twelve minutes to beat Cork Hibs 3-2 and thereby snatch the League of Ireland title from the Corkmen in front of 26,000 people. My uncle Fran brought me with him on the day. I don't know how many times the lads on the coach sang Amarillo on the way back. Tony Christie is God.
Lol this song was sung by Falkirk FC fans way back in 1987 when we went on a preseason tour to Darlington and the song is played over the tannoy everytime Falkirk score a goal now..great memories..sha na na na na na Falkirk..:)
Dude Fallkirk is the great name of any club in history and just for that I've been an fan while not being scottish myself :) Knowing the fans of this club are hummin this absolute 70s classic, makes me even proud of you FALKIRK Fans !
Jerome Lange ahh thanks man..I no longer live in Scotland myself am down here in England but we still get up to see the bairns now and again..cheers fur the nice comment its usually abuse from other teams fans lol
I think the guy on the treadmill needs to be running a little faster...let's set the 'speed' to 1.25. ;) Surprisingly, the song works well at this speed...actually I think it's better at this tempo. A very uplifting song..never get tired of listening to it. :)
I think the treadmill was also there to evoke the Comic Relief sketch, which featured various celebrities walking along in pairs, as the song was played. The popularity of the sketch was really what made the song such a hit for the second time. (If you've never seen it, it's fairly easy to find on youtube.)
Chunkymonkey7 Not really as they will know because it’s a live performance and he’s older it will sound different plus TOTP did on occasion have live performances rather than lip sync
how would know how good his voice is? TOTP is ALWAYS full Playback. The only Band to ever play without Playback there was Iron Maiden, because the refuse to do Playbacks
real music on TOTP, What a legend.
Always loved this Song and Tony Christie
Beautiful song indeed. Still remember this song from the 70's
If your feeling down this song will give you a lift. Its the ultimate feel good song
Tony Christie singing "Amarillo" and Dean Martin singing "Houston", both give high honors to the great state of Texas!!! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!
He's actually singing this! Like he always does, no lip syncing ever.
Great voice
Good old Tony! I am so happy that this song became a big hit again.

he is actually singing live. wow
I'm very impressed with the way his voice was still holding up despite his age. He even sang it in the original key.

Great song sung and played brilliantly.
Remember this song being placed at premier league play off final in Cardiff. Think the whole stadium sang along and waving flags awesome sight still gives goosebumps whenever I hear it.
Such an uplifting song. Just great!
Brilliant, along with ‘Avenues & Alleyways.’
'Las Vegas' was my favourite
Wonderful! Such class!
An absolute classic. God I love this song so much from me early teen until my 50'sh.
This recording was released 3 days before Tony Christie turned 62.
Great Singer. Great Performer. Great Song. Great Fun. This is Brilliant. Love it. The Feel Good Factor in Action!!!
I've only just worked out that the guy on the treadmill is kind of a tribute to when Peter Kay did it, he was on a treadmill with Parky & Ronnie Corbett.

Love to have seen him with Peter Kay who made this song popular all over again

Great Song :) Thanks for uploading :)
Love it. Who are the backing singers?
His voice is gone in areas now. Well done resurrecting that live!
Thanks love
can you uplooad full episode of totp hosted by chris moyles & team
Actually Is The Same Song
v/ I like it
I believe he's Aled, one of Chris Moyles' sidekicks on his radio show.
As we say in Australia "bewdy mate!"
😍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍👌LG Katharina super schön
The point of the gentleman on the treadmill was to go along with the song to represent the protagonist walking/traveling home to his sweet Maria.
I think the treadmill was also there to evoke the Comic Relief sketch, which featured various celebrities walking along in pairs, as the song was played. The popularity of the sketch was really what made the song such a hit for the second time. (If you've never seen it, it's fairly easy to find on youtube.)
It is to do with the peter Kay comic relief tribute to this classic track
is this way to Berlin
The kids in the audience will be confused as to how it sounds slightly different to the cd.
because it''s live instead of usual lip synced version.
Chunkymonkey7 Not really as they will know because it’s a live performance and he’s older it will sound different plus TOTP did on occasion have live performances rather than lip sync
kool 😎
Nice, Thank dear,I appreciate your support love you
Why is that dude walking on that treadmill. Not use to things like that here in the states
A vocalista de calça, é uma gata, se não me engano, é a Charlotte Jackson......
THIS SONG NEEDS A COMEBACK ON TIK TOK IN 2021
No... just no no no no i disagree with this
Is this the was to my
Vocals :..Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm :-)
Since when did Chris Moyles present TOTP?
Twiglet In the 90s and 2000s they had periods of using guest presenters and sometimes presenters that aren’t from BBC Radio 1
Why's the guy on the trampoline?
I want to say because of Peter Kay, but I don't know which was before the other
Live? Sure, and pigs can fly!
Is that Aled on the treadmill?
yes and now he is boss on radio 1
What can one say?
Miss Oakley are you single?
Thank dear, for been there for me,I love dear
Sorry, not the trampoline, why's the guy on the treadmill?
wentworth season 1
Wentworth season 2
Wentworth season 4
Wentworth season 5
2:04 fail :D
at least by that you can tell he's singing it live.
Neil Sedaka wrote this
Who's the stiff on that stupid treadmill?
Your better than rhus
The blonde girl in the white dress to the far right....is that Cassandra from Only Fools And Horses?
Isn't the blonde about 24 and Cassandra was 24 in 1985 episodes?
TOTP was not always full playback.
It depends how much you paid to play fully live or how much you kissed up to the managing director.
I played trumpet with Tony for a few years and on this we mimed but he sang live.
It's not the same without Jimmy Savile
how would know how good his voice is? TOTP is ALWAYS full Playback.
The only Band to ever play without Playback there was Iron Maiden, because the refuse to do Playbacks
Wupme It’s not always lip syncing, in periods in the 90s and 2000s some performances have been live
Unusual to listen to a vocalist accompanied by real musicians on TOTP. The drummer is a million times better than the pathetic Ringo Starr!
