Nicholas Keefe I think they showed up for the cameras and the home town so to speak. They didn’t understand how popular they were going to get until after the European and pac rim legs. There are some powerful performances during the euro leg, and lesser so pac rim tour. It’s a shame they never go to do a full euro nor pac rim tour for In Utero.

I watched the full concert and was curious about the "go-go dancers" on the side. Friends of Kurt. So I found out a couple of interesting things.
The girl dancer, Nikki McClure is a pretty famous papercutter (pop out books) and illustrator of children's books. But here is what really made me laugh.
Even though Nirvana had recorded one album (Bleach), it didn’t sell and by the time that they paid the studio they were dead broke again.
The day of this concert, Kurt needed some new socks so he and a couple of friends went to a store to buy some. He pulled out a wadded up dollar and some coins and a bunch of pocket lint, but he didn’t even have enough money to buy the socks he wanted.
He told his friends, “I think I MIGHT have $10 dollars in my account that I can get out, but I’m not sure.”, so they headed to find an ATM.
What he didn’t know was that Geffen had made a massive PR campaign to support the album “Nevermind” and had shipped over a half million copies out to retailers the day before. When Kurt got to the ATM he checked his balance first and found out that several hundred thousand dollars had been deposited in his account by Geffen records. He about passed out.
He was able to buy his socks. :-)

I absolutely adore this whole show. Which kurt through his nirvana years we see so much change musically, as well as his personal views. kurt and as a collective nirvana always maintained core values of punk rock, underground, individual, staying away from mainstream, giving the outcasts a common ground, a great way for all those alienated and marginalised to share there struggles through music, which means something different to each individual. It’s funny however how contradicting these values are. For example , kurt often mocks and strives to stay away from mainstream “corporate rock” as he puts it, however as they became mainstream this undermined the punk rock ethos, but at the same time it’s very contradicting as they weren’t trying to be mainstream and were being themselves, so it’s hard to distinguish between selling out and staying true to yourself , with so many cross overs. Even some venues , in particular underground didn’t want to have nirvana involved with them because of this. I can only imagine how frustrating this is for kurt and the band. There’s so much irony, in bloom for exapmple sums this up very well. As I said, the reason I love this show is because all of those aforementioned points are rendered irrelevant as you can clearly see that with the raw angst and passionate performance , kurt , Dave and krist are absolutely in their element. And that’s what punk rock is all about. Kurt was a very complex, and yet so simple and caring person, however I can only make that statement as an assumption as I never even knew him. That speaks volumes however as that’s how nirvanas music made you feel. Like you could associate with these deep, ironic, sarcastic, dark, humorous, melancholic lyrics and melodies. This was a truly great and precious group. Although in some shows you can see kurts in particular resentment towards their popularity, he does love the true music, just look at drain you at this paramount show and you can see. I love nirvana

I feel like this has the potential to be a lost Python skit:
Krist: “Hello, do you carry straps for bass guitar?”
Salesman: “Yes sir, we have them in all the standard sizes, by which we mean one.”
K: “Great. How far down are we talking, like waist or mid hip?”
S: “I think you’ll find it will put your instrument at the standard location.”
K: “Nah, I’m looking for something that will hang loose around my shins.”
S: “Well that would be ridiculous sir, you would almost certainly have to extend the strap with some kind of extension, possibly some scrap from a worn out apron. Why on Earth would you require a strap of that length? You would have to be some kind of loony to even attempt playing the bass guitar at that height in the first place.”
K: “You’re clearly unfamiliar with my work.”
